Mitch McGary to return to Michigan for sophomore season
I believe it is what is best for him...if he has anything near the stats he is putting up now next year, he will probably land in the middle of the lottery.
In regards for our team....FUCK YEAH!
If he has the numbers he's putting up now, he will, or near them, for a year he will, without a doubt, wind up in the top of the first round. Many big men have been highly selected for less.
Isn't that pretty much the same thing?
Based on picks for Nerlens Noel and Cody Zellers? Yes. Top-5 isn't really the middle of anything.
But the effects of playing with Trey Burke canot be understated. Burke driving and penetrating leaves McGary open so many gimmes. He will really struggle to replicate his offensive production without a gaurd like Burke feeding him, since he lakcs post moves. On the other hand his effeort and hustle to get rebounds in incredible.
I am not so sure about this argument. Darius Morris first, now Trey Burke putting up great numbers at PG in M's offense. I think Beilein's offense is making everyone look good and will function just fine without Trey Burke. Burke will be missed no doubt, but the offense will adjust and still be very productive. McGary, Stauskas, and GRIII are all capable of much more next season and should flourish taking a bigger role in Trey Burke's absence.
It seems like a wise choice to me.
this heals my heart. Looking forward to seeing McGary grow into a absolute force next year.
Here's the relevant quote from the article:
"I haven’t even thought about (leaving),” [McGary] told MLive.com after practice Tuesday at the Crisler Center. “I don’t have a decision to make -- I’m coming back.”
Is he 100 percent sure?
“Yeah,” he said with a laugh. “I’m coming back.”
Is he still going to be called a big puppy?
GRIII needs another year. He didn't play that well during the regular season. Imagine how much his stock will go up if he plays like he is now next season?
As for THJ, he's a junior. Almost 75% of the way to getting a degree. Why not stay one more year, what the hell? Have a chance to move into the top-10 in the all-time scoring list and lead the team to another B1G Championship.
I'm pretty sure money isn't an issue for either of the legacies.
I agree with this. As a GRIII fan, I still wouldn't want my NBA team to draft him in the first round. His best games were great, but he disappeared in big games and doesn't yet have some of the polish you want in an NBA 3. Another year of work and he could be a lottery pick as well.
I hope they all come back, and I think they all should (except Burke, of course, who should bolt).
and hopefully more incentive for his best friend to come back as well. Mitch won't allow his roommate GRIII to leave without him.
Awasome, I love watching him play. We need him too. We don't Have much size on the bench or coming in.
Well, we have Jon Horford and Jordan Morgan back next year. Along with top-100 recruit 6'9" Mark Donnal coming in, and our only commit from 2014 is a 6'9" PF/C. But other than that, there isn't much. Oh yeah and Max. He can play down low a little bit.
Now get Burke too, and that will make my year.
Great. This one was starting to scare me a little. Big men who show any skill level become quickly coveted by the NBA.
He has a chance to be an All-American next year.
is awesome considering his Tourney emergence has put him anywhere from the second to first rounds according to numerous analysts. Love the kid and his energy, and maybe this will possibly start lure guys like GRIII back to the program for at least next season.
If GR3 and Tim come back, we might be back in the national title hunt next year with three 4 stars also coming in.
Cody Zeller, you may want to go ahead and leave. there i a new big ten post monster.
I need Mitch to hit the gym, do those squats and air alerts and work on his verts. He needs to board and go right back up with thunder.
Even though his vertical is lacking he still goes up with authority. One of his best attributes is that he goes 100% on both ends of the court at all times. Morgan is what he is but sometimes he infuriates me with how soft he is down low on offense. He lives in constant fear of getting stuffed so he's timid.
McGary has a great elbow shot. He has scored so many points this year by pulling down the board and WAITING, allowing the defenders to jump early, and then putting up that little elbow layup right between them.
He's already a junior age wise, so I wouldn't blame him for changing his mind after the dust settles. Athletic, rebounding, runs the floor type of big men are at a premium. You gotta do what you gotta do though selfishly I want him back.
True, some guys do change their minds after the season's over (Darius Morris did, I believe) - but this sounds pretty definitive. He's not talking about it being a "tough decision" - he sounds like he isn't considering the NBA at all right now.
So glad to hear this, assuming Trey & THJ are the only ones that leave and GRIII comes back this would be our line-up next year:
PG - D. Walton & Spike
SG - Stauskas, Levert, Irvin
SF - GRIII, Bielfeldt
PF - Morgan, Donnal
C - McGary, Horford
That looks like a damn good line-up to me.
Can you imagine how good we would be if Trey and THJ did comeback? Still looks like a top 5 team anyway without those guys
Irvin is going to start, at least according to my gut. Any guy drawing comparisons to Eric Gordon is nice to have.
I was just indicating the guys and positions. We could easily see a starting crew of:
Walton. Irvin, Stauskas, GRII and Mitch
Is he that high level of a player?
he's one of the favorites for Mr. Basketball in Indiana....if not THE favorite
His coach said he is one of the best, if not the best player he has ever seen in HS. And he coached Gary Harris and has coached against numerous top recruits. He's the real deal.
Lineup looks pretty accurate but I can't see Biefeldt playing at the 3.
PG: Walton
SG: Irvin
SF: Stauskas
PF: GR III
C: McGary
This is excellent news, of course. Watching him literally grow throughout the season as he played more has been great and, particularly based on McGary's tournament performance admittedly, freshman Mitch McGary makes me excited to think about what sophomore Mitch McGary could be. A great post player that might be able to sustain 17.5 PPG on average and, say, 8-11 rebounds per game possibly? Yes, please.
This is excellent news, of course. Watching him literally grow throughout the seasonHe hasn't literally grown. Actually, he's literally shrunk, from over 270 to 255 as he's gotten in better shape.
Awesome news! This kid has made a huge improvement over the season (especially the last 2-3 weeks). Besides having natural athletic ability, size, etc... he has an amazing motor. He's destined for the lottery though if the last 2-3 weeks are any indication.
