Michigan State Snowflakes: The Officiating

Submitted by murderwolflives on November 1st, 2020 at 1:00 PM

MOD EDIT: Pinning this with the other Snowflake Threads - LSA

Didn't see this posted, but I would assume there is plenty to say about the officiating (or lack thereof).

Personal Gripes:

Inconsistent calling of Defensive Pass Interference (What was a PI against Michigan was never called against MSU)

Missed drop that was called a completion on 3rd down prolonging their drive in 4th quarter and leading to clinching TD

Improved I think because both sides got fucked instead of Michigan exclusively getting fucked

- MSU had 2 catches on their last drive that were not catches and were not reviewed

- Ronnie Bell's catch before a TD was not a catch and it was not reviewed

- MSU's blindside blocks were pathetically weak calls

- Inconsistent PI all day (call everything on Michigan the first half and then swallow the whistle the rest of the game)

- You can't award a timeout after the defense jumps offsides and causes a lineman to jump

Any one of these calls would cause OSU fans to break down in tears at the idea of conspiracy against them, but this is just another day at the office for Michigan

Disagree about OSU fans.  Got to be honest.

there is much less whining on their board even in losses (when you can find them) than there is here.   Outside of the Clemson game (they were hosed), they don’t blame the zebras.  We do.

I agree with what you posted, I'm sure all of us do. The calls were huge. That said, we'd still be up against it to win this game, the Spartans really played inspired ball. I tip my hat to them; I was shocked at how well they played, especially with recent poor recruiting classes. If Dantonio left the cupboard bare, yikes! It ain't over yet...

Officials were truly awful if only because there were at least 3 reviewable catches they just didn't review.

If the officials called games that tightly 10 years ago, MSU is giving up 200 penalty yards a game

The officiating was poor, but not the reason for the loss.

There was an MSU punt where one of the shield guys literally grabbed the Michigan guy around the head and threw him to the ground with a ref staring at it with no call. It’s not like it was hidden in the trenches. Whatever. The blame is still on the coaches for this one.

Not the “only” reason, but Michigan likely wins with fair officiating. The clinching touchdown drive should have ended on their own 30. Their second scoring drive was extended by multiple questionable penalties on Michigan. Only 1 offensive holding call all day, which I rather doubt against Paye and Hutch, on a day we really needed the help to get off the field.

The refs were awful, inconsistent, and for sure played a role in the loss. But, their role was much smaller than whatever the fuck Brown and Gattis were doing. The old adage “standing out in left field with a catchers mitt on” comes to mind.

I’m just gonna do a Jim harbaugh impression for this thread.
I think our guys fought hard, the loss is on me. We have to get back into our coaching room and figure what’s wrong and go from there. Something something something finest hour

Officiating was atrocious.  MSU came out with more of the beneficial calls but the fact this Michigan team needed those calls to even stay in it bothers me more than anything and it pains me to think a guy in Dwumfour, helped a Rutgers line get more pressures than our Michigan d-line makes me 100% sure now that some coaching needs to change.  There's no excuse.

It definitely sucks for the DB's to be aggressive when they have to worry about any refs throwing a flag, no matter what side of the field.

It was amaizing, though, that as the game went on and there were multiple mooo u errors, the refs decided to even it out and started to call it "even".

Officiating was not the problem today. We just suck. Accept it but we need to fix it. Step 1 fire harbaugh on Monday please for the love of god. The game against Ohio states gonna be a blood bath. At least if you fire him you let the nation know we’re in a coaching search to attract a big candidate. Hire anyone I don’t care who. Ughhh I’m so fucking furious fuck sparty fuck Valenti fuck!

Definitely agree with the we suck sentiment- but the officials definitely had a hand in deciding this game.

Momentum after the missed FG was shifting - we had them in 3rd and long - and they were gifted a completion.

The air just went out of the D right after that (which should go to coaching but that is another snowflake thread).

"The air just went out of the D right after that (which should go to coaching but that is another snowflake thread)."

Disagree.  The D never had "air" at any point during this game.  Awful performance against a mediocre team on your home turf.  Embarrassing, really.

What the fuck does Don Brown tell the DBs?   'Hold and grab the receivers on every play until they call PI 6 times then try to play defense.'

That man is an idiot.  We have no talent i. The defensive backfield and the staff refuses to play zone.

OSU will 48-56 points in the first half of the game.   The final should be about 83-13.

This program is like an over inbred dog...too stupid to know how stupid and inept it is.  Fire fucking Harbaugh and get a real coach who has never been at Michigan.  Dan Mullen would be good.

The bad call on an apparent drop was as much on Harbaugh and his coaches as it was the refs. He has to be willing to throw the flag on game changing plays. One more reason to stack on top of thousands of others that he is not deserving to be retained when his contract is up.
