MGoPoll: Do YOU want to see Maryland in the B1G?
I apologize if there is a real "poll" feature that I've overlooked. I'll just count the answers instead.
I've been going back and forth so I've been wondering what MGoUsers think.
We don't know about Rutgers or Georgia Tech or Chicago or whoever else is rumored...so I'll leave this to JUST Maryland.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Plan and simple. Yes, No, or Don't Care. Do you WANT to see Maryland in the B1G Conference?
---Yes
---No
---Don't Care

hell no

No.
With all this talk about increasing revenues from the Big Ten Network, I think people are forgetting the changing world we live in. What happens if, in say four years, Google TV or a web-based television platform gets launched successfully? In my opinion, the television sales format is entirely outdated and could easily be reworked by a new provider. Why pay... $60 a month for 250 channels, when in reality, you watch 25? Why not just pay $1 (or more to ESPN, less to Science Channel, etc) to get exactly what you want for $25? Boom, there goes the entire Big Ten Network because only households with sports loving men, generally aged 16-65 are going to subscribe.
I'm no expect, but it just seems very shortsighted to put all out eggs in one basket and take these crap athletic schools in the hopes of some immediate payoff.

NO. Nor Rutgers.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:52 PM ^
No. Final answer.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:52 PM ^
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
November 18th, 2012 at 8:52 PM ^
No.
And I know you didn't ask, but I don't want Rutgers or GT either
November 18th, 2012 at 8:53 PM ^
Yes...I don't think it is a perfect fit now, but down the road (10+), when the National demographics change, this addition IMO can set up the conferance for long term survival as one of the 2 predominant conferences. DC will always be an important media market.
Plus, there Lacrosse program can be a flagship, along with our program of course, of a new B1G LAcrosse conference.

I can see I am in the minority
November 18th, 2012 at 9:21 PM ^
Their women's soccer team is really great too guys!!!1!!!one!!!11!!!!
November 18th, 2012 at 9:36 PM ^
Yes, it is. I wish ours was at their level. What's your point?
(That's a rhetorical question. We all know your point.)
November 18th, 2012 at 8:53 PM ^
NO No nO
November 18th, 2012 at 8:53 PM ^
The other thread, while not a formal poll, seemed pretty clear to me as far as what people want.
Anyways,
No.
Not just no, but hell no.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:53 PM ^
November 18th, 2012 at 8:53 PM ^
No.
However, I don't mind md but if it is a package with rutgers...then absolutely no.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:53 PM ^
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 18th, 2012 at 8:54 PM ^
Nothing against Maryland, but I don't want any more teams in the Big Ten.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:54 PM ^
But, I am naive to that program's history and what they offer the big ten. I am most interested in the academic side of Maryland, particularly the biology and sciences departments. Anyone have details to edify me?
November 18th, 2012 at 9:12 PM ^
Math, physics and comp sci are strong. Physics used to be excellent. John Wheeler and Charles Misner both taught there--only Illinois had a comparable department in the B1G (unless you count Chicago).
November 18th, 2012 at 8:54 PM ^
No. Nothing against Maryland, but this does not make sense.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:54 PM ^
No, no more teams no matter who they are
November 18th, 2012 at 8:55 PM ^
November 18th, 2012 at 8:55 PM ^
Yes, just to piss off the "get off my lawn" crowd.
November 19th, 2012 at 12:28 AM ^
Oddly enough, I am currently wearing my IPFW t-shirt, and the answer is still hell no.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:22 AM ^
Why on earth do you have an IPFW T-shirt?
November 18th, 2012 at 8:55 PM ^
So the answer is NO.

November 18th, 2012 at 8:56 PM ^
negative.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:56 PM ^
No. I was only on board with expansion when it was something we would have been forced to do to keep up with the national landscape. Now that the expansion merry-go-round stopped, we could afford to be choosy and only accept no-brainers.
Maryland, Rutgers, Georgia Tech...Not no-brainers.
November 18th, 2012 at 9:01 PM ^
How confident are you that "expansion merry-go-round stopped"?
Seems to me, like there could be a bit of pressure for conferences to go to 14 and then to 16.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:57 PM ^
No. Not as bad as Rutgers would be, though.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:57 PM ^
Absolutely in the long run this will be a great decision
November 18th, 2012 at 8:57 PM ^
If it does not, no.
November 18th, 2012 at 9:25 PM ^
I mean... that isn't an argument for Maryland itself. That is an argument to bring in some other team to force divisional realignment. Bringing in Towson would:
-Increase the geographic footprint to Maryland
-Bring in TV viewers from Maryland
-Get the Big Ten Network in Maryland houses
-Force divisional realignment
-TOWSON BEAT LSU (through one half) THIS YEAR!
My vote is for Towson.

L-O-L. The ACC in its entirety is middle of the road. Saying Maryland is a middle of the road ACC team is being.... nice. Name a team we would bring in from the ACC who would be decidely WORSE (in all regards) than Maryland.... ok I concede NC State.
November 18th, 2012 at 8:57 PM ^
Not unless there are any breweries in Maryland that I've never heard of.
