It's a combination of a few things. Harvard relaxed its admission standards for basketball players when Amaker got there. He has thus been able to bring in sevearl athletes that are not "Harvard caliber." Additionally, the Ivy League has recently adopted a rule that allows its schools to offer grants that cover all of a student athlete's costs. They're not scholarships, but they're scholarships. Previously, the amount of a student athlete's grant was need-based.
There are also several stories of Amaker walking a very fine line when it comes to recruiting violations. There have been numerous reports of "bumping" and a story about a prospective assistant coach "randomly" showed up to a playground where a prospect was playing. The coach played some pickup with the kid, talked to him about Harvard, and Amaker hired the assistant soon after that interaction.
Also, don't forget about the academic scandal that hit Harvard last year.
Amaker's done a good job there, but I'm not so sure it's entirely above board.

As a Yankee fan, let me give you my perspective here: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Now a real analysis: I loved Joba for a while but his slider has lost its bite, his fastball has lost about 5 mph, and the guy is an all around ass (see: telling Mariano Rivera to be quiet). The Yankees actually destroyed him. Moving him in and out of the rotation messed with his arm and led to Tommy John surgery and he hasn't been the same since. Maybe the Tigers can help him find some life in his arm, but based on what I've seen over the last few years he may be too far gone.

I wish he would come out and really put some pressure on Borges and the offense, but it's not going to happen. Of course he realizes that the offense is struggling - everybody knows our offense is struggling, but he's not going to start going after our coaches or players at this point. The issue will be what he does at the end of the season, not what he says now.
If no changes are made (which is what I expect) then it's entirely fair to criticize Hoke. If he surprises us all and switches something up, then we have to reassess what to complain about (until next season).
Here's what I'd like to see happen in the offseason. Boot Borges, bring in another OC who is creative and doesn't call runs against 9 man fronts 20 times a game. Shuffle the coaches (somebody would have to go, but I'm not sure why we need 2 linebacker coaches...goodbye Coach Smith?) and bring in a QB coach. Hopefully Fred Jackson will retire and we can bring in Wheatley or Hart as a RB coach. I think Funk gets another season given the youth on our interior. However, if Bob Bostad (TB OL coach and former Wisconsin OL coach) is available, I think you need to consider him. Either way, Funk will be on a very, very hot seat going into next season.

I have absolutely no problem with non-alumni being fans of a school. I see no harm in it at all.
I do, however, hate when people say "we" when discussing professional sports. The TIgers made the ALCS. You did nothing. "We" didn't make the ALCS, "they" made the ALCS. For whatever reason, that's always bothered me. While I don't do it, I don't mind as much when alumni of a University say "we." There is a shared connection with the University that raises alumni to more than just a fan/viewer - you were part of the University at one time and have a legitimate connection with the team.
I don't know how I came to these decisions in my head, but that's always been the distinctions I've made.

I randomly chose to support Spurs a couple years ago. If they keep Bale (unlikely but not impossible) I think they're a shoo-in for top 4 and could challenge for a title. Especially given the fact that Chelsea, Man Utd, and City all have new managers that will need to settle.

Good luck to the kid, but my overall reaction is "meh." No offer, wasn't going to get one and has not developed to the point he would have been on Michigan's radar.

I agree. I'm all for camp offers. How'd WR, Collier was offered well after camp and only after Darlington (Neb) and Peavey (Arkansas) both told Urban "No thanks." Maybe the kid can play, but I'm not sure he was in Urban's top 5 choices for the class. That being said, maybe he develops into a contributor...time will tell.

Can we just use that picture of Borges as the new banner please?
Also - this was awesome. I'd love to see it with another coach or two if it would ever be possible.

I agree that some of the ESPN rankings are weird, but isn't this all projection anyway? I don't see any reason not to put Bunting that high because he's skinny/plays WR. If they think he has the upside of being a very good TE, isn't that sufficient to get a top 150 rating? I'm not saying Bunting will be that good, but just saying that its not just about what they've done so far, but also about what the services think they will be.

I'm a Cornell grad and I've watched him for 4 years. He is absolutely incredible. I think he plans to keep wrestling and try for the Olympics (he finished third at the trials last year). However, most people don't see him getting past Burroughs. If wrestling stays in the games and he is willing to stick it out til 2020 I think he'd have a pretty good shot (but that's a long way off).

Love Trey and everything he's done for the program, but Kyle Dake is the college athlete of the year. Four NCAA titles in 4 years in 4 weight classes - without a redshirt year. Also, he moved up a weight class this year in order to have an opportunity to take on last year's wrestler of the year (David Taylor from PSU) and defeated him 3 times this year. Just an amazing athlete and one of the greatest NCAA wrestlers of all time.

The Wings couldn't play the Hawks in the Western Conference Finals because the NHL re-seeds after each round. If they both get out of the first round the Hawks will be the highest remaining seed and the Wings the lowest, so they'll be matched up in the second round.

|47 weeks 3 days ago||Just because the schools that||
Just because the schools that you're all used to won't win the championship doesn't make it a "fake championship" or a bad Frozen Four. Quinnipiac was the best team in the country for most of the year. Yale has already beaten 2 number 1 seeds to get to the finals. These are two good hockey teams and just because you don't know much about them doesn't make that less true. Also, this is great for the ECAC - no more fans of the other large conferences saying they're the fourth best conference. They were the second best conference for most of the year and these teams earned their way here.
