Kate Mara as Sue Storm
Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm
Jamie Bell as The Thing
Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic
Kate Mara as Sue Storm
Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm
Jamie Bell as The Thing
Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic
I had to google every person. I had no idea who they were.
Kate Mara's probably the most "famous" of the bunch. Michael B. Jordan's claim to fame is that he played a character on The Wire and made headlines when Andrew Garfield suggested Spider-Man should be gay and Michael B. Jordan should play his boyfriend, "M.J."
As for the other two cast choices, yeah I have no clue either.
What is the point in this movie? What is the rule of thumb, now, 5 years before a remake? 3?
Every time stuff like this pops up, I've never jeard of anybody, and it reminds me how damn old I am.
Way back when, Marvel went bankrupt, and had to sell their most popular properties (X-Men, Spiderman, Daredevil, Fantastic 4, etc) to companies like Sony and Fox. In order to keep those properties, Those studios must make a film every so often, otherwise those rights revert back to Marvel. For instance, Daredevil's rights just returned to Marvel because Fox hadn't produced one since 2003
That's why we've seen Wolverine eleventy-billion times on the big screen,as well as several Spiderman films. Fantastic 4 was beginning to approach the deadline, so they're re-booting in with hopes it will spawn a productive trilogy. These studios know that even if they churn out crap movies, they'll still make solid profits off them.
The properties going back to Marvel would be the best scenario, but that's never going to happen.
Friday Night Lights...
If you like sci-fi check it out.
D: "Where's Wallace Stringer? Where the fuck is Wallace?!?"
Stringer: "Well the kids I told to go kill him reported that he set himself on fire and flew away when they pulled a gun on him."
D: "....Oh....Ok then....nevermind."

That Awkward Moment
MICHAEL B. JORDAN IS A STAR DAMMIT!!
You've got to be kidding. Michael B. Jordan's claim to fame is that he's been amazing in everything he's done.
Didn't Michael B. Jordan get his start in Hardball like twenty years ago?
He just randomly adopted Michigan State as one of his college teams growing up.
wearing sparty gear? Where?
Fixed that for you...
Vince Howard was unbelievable for East Dillon. I'm still upset Michigan couldn't pry him out of Texas.
Frankly, I'm still trying to forget the Silver Surfer.
but aren't Sue Storm and Johnny Storm....brother and sister? Am I missing something?
I am quite interested to see how they explain that one too. Maybe Mama Storm was having a little bit too much fun while Papa Storm was away.
I know Hollywood likes to take a little artistic license, but...I can't imagine the comic book purists are going to look favorably on this one.
Everybody seems pretty cool with it. My comic book junkie friend wrote "Diggin these choices!" as his facebook status. I guess I'm old -- I don't even know who two of the actors are.
IMO, it doesn't matter. As long as they have the same relationship and the movie is faithful to the personalities and emotional bond of the characters, I could not care less if they are of two different races.
When was the last time a comic book movie made sense?
Its just interesting choices. They'll obviously have to add another wrinkle to the story/characters background to explain it. OR basically indicate that they're not related at all, thus changing things.
Again, just a curiosity on how they'll present it in the new movie.
I guess I just care because I prefer things that at least try to make some kind of sense. Just telling me two people are siblings and they clearly most likely are not without some kind of explanation irritates me almost as much as people who think the words literally and figuratively are interchangeable.
It's what happens when disney makes comic book movies. Kind of scarey to think what the new star wars cast members will be like.
Disney isn't making this. Fox is.
Yep. They sure are.
...according to the comics, anyway.
You're assuming the writers actually read the comic books???
unless they were comic book fans growing up.
When January Jones was cast as Emma Frost in First Class, she said she had never read a comic book in her life. After the movie was released, she said she still hadn't.
Didn't the last one come out a few years ago? Do we really need another remake? Hollywood is really lazy.
with Spiderman. And Superman. And don't get me started on Batman.
Agreed. You should have to wait a minimum of 10-15 years before you can "reboot" a franchise. Just because you effed it up the 1st time around doesn't mean you get to call shenanigans and start over.
The old human torch is Captain america
The green latern is Deadpool
They are even lazy in casting
Part of it has to do with the who currently owns the rights to make the characters. With Spider-man I believe the rights would have go back to Marvel if Sony had not made another movie within a certain time period. It is probably the same with the Fantastic Four.
Waaaaay too many comic movies lately. I love comics, but everytime one comes out I cringe a bit. It's never like I would do it.
FYI - pick up Thor: God of Thunder "God Butcher" TPB - it's fantastic. Also if you are really late to the party the Batman New 52 first two volumes on TPB (Court of Owls and the other one) are some of the best shit I've read in a while. Hawkeye is great too.
Never was a big F4 guy myself so I can't comment on the choices.
Way too many bad movies might be a more apt commentary. Comics, lame comedies, lame action flicks. TV, primarily HBO, Showtime, basic cable, but even networks, are now putting out a more consistent, high-quality product. 20, even 10 years you wouldn't have seen major movie stars going to TV like they are now. Today they don't think twice about it.
There are of course still great movies, just very few that get a lot of attention.
Don't forget the awesome shows from Netflix
Netflix is great but they don't produce content. But yeah it's awesome, especially for binge viewing.
Except for Orange is the New Black, the new season of Arrested Development, and House of Cards which are all wildly popular, so yeay, they do produce new content.
has also been great. Jason Aarons Thor run is fantastic. His series Scalped from Vertigo is the best comic series I have ever read.
I'm kinda sick of superior Spiderman. I enjoyed it at first but now I'm really ready to get Peter Parker back.
I was HUGE on Spiderman when I was a kid. I came back to comics and for whatever reason I've stayed away from the character. I re-read the old one I have and they are fucking awful. I loved them when I was a kid.
I will try out Scalped as long as they have a TPB and I dont have to go searching for the actual books.
A brand new secret gem that I have read is Royals: Masters of War. I hope it goes where I think it could.
I have heard great things about Bunker as well, but my dude down here sold out before I could get it. It started as a digital-only though so it's out there. I just haven't looked yet.
COMICS TALK IS MY SHIT! Love this.
comixology app is a must if you do. Scalped is in TPB, thats how i read it
Obviously I was well late to the party, but last year I picked up the Annihilation: Conquest arc and was completley blown away by the complexity the cosmic universe Marvel had going on.
I had known many of the characters like Nova, Mar-Vell, Adam Warlock and such from the Infinity Gauntlet storyline but I was like a 10 year old again reading Annihilation. If you have a chance and haven't read it I would absolutely recommend it, not only for pure entertainment value, but to also get a good glimpse at what the future Marvel movies might look like.
Absolutely killed it with annihilation and annihilation Conquest, by far some of the best I've ever read. War of kings, realm of kings and thanos imperative are all pretty good too. I really wish they would make a Nova prime movie.
I recommend Saga by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples. It's one of the most original and entertaining books I've read since Y: The Last Man and Preacher.
Well Kate Mara is quite attractive, it will be interesting to see her as a blonde. I really liked Michael B Jordan in Friday Night Lights. No idea who the other two are, the one looks like an odd choice for the Thing but I assume he will spend 3/4 of the movie as the CGI Thing, so not sure his physical appearance matters as much.
Love the FF comic's when done right (Millar or Hickman spring to mind), it will be interesting to see if they can really capture the right tone in the movie.
I don't know why they insist on choosing a non-blonde for this role and making her blonde. It just makes it harder for the audience to buy in, especially when it's a famous actress with such a unique look. Jessica Alba is Latin American and Kate Mara is a strong ranga. Neither are good as blondes.
Casting isn't based on appearance or if someone is a good fit for the role. It's based on who is a "hot name" at the time. Both Alba and Mara were considered "hot" names when they were cast. It's the ever-changing "It Factor" in Hollywood. When an actor gets it, they'll get cast in a role they would have never gotten ten years ago or ten years from now.
"Fuck making a believable movie, one that will stand the test of time and (somewhat) historical accuracy...lets get some butts in the seats. I wanna get PAID!"
yes, I understand its a business and its their job to make money, but I'm sure there's a way to do that and still be true to the comic book.
And I realize I'm running the risk of these actors killing it on screen and having it blown back at me years later...but still.
I'm sorry, but there's no way you can square this being "true to the comic book" with these casting choices. I'm sure it will still be a good movie, but staying true to the comics is clearly not the studio's priority.
her fate in the trailer for the new movie.
through the glass dome or whatever that is, this time its not the bridge like the comics. Wont spoil for anyone
No, No, No and No. Dumping Jessica Alba? No!
How can you not like someone who lets herself get felt up by the Rock dude... Come on, it looks like Thing is totally grabbing her va-jay-jay in the picture below.
Who can come up with the best "slogan" for one of the fantastic four like...
Once you've had stone, you will never be alone...
Once you've had elastic, all other members just seem like plastic...
Mr. Fantastic is Miles Teller's father...he looks like Sue's younger brother, yes?
I actually like Miles Teller as an actor but I'm not sure how convincing he'll be in a bookworm smartest person in the universe kinda role.
Doctor Doom might be a woman.
That is actually true which is like...what?
I like all these actors, but I don't think any of them really fit the roles. These are odd choices.
also +1 because Magnus
if I'm not mistaken Ben Grimm/Thing is very very large, Hulk size in fact
I thought we already assigned Caris Levert and Zak Irvin to some of these roles. Didn't they get the memo?
Wish marvel owned the rights to do all these movies. With Marvel now willing to make cosmic marvel movies like GOTG, it would be awesome if they could bring in Norrin Raad and Galactus in others.
Didn't they already bring Galactus into one of the movies?
was FF the silver surfer and he wasn't really in it. But because Marvel sold the rights to those characters they can't use them in films like the Avengers AoU or anything else.
Would you even want Galactus in a movie? He's such a hard character to pull off or do the right way. Avengers had "Thanos" set as the villain for the sequel and then realized, Uh no one knows who Thanos is and how the fuck do we do Thanos anyway?
Same reason you'll probably never see Darkseid or Apocalypse in a movie without it bordering on ridiculous.
Apparently you didn't know the title of the X-Men movie slated for 2016:
They are doing that character very soon. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3385516/?ref_=nv_sr_1
They didn't scrap Thanos at all....he's going to be in GOTG, and it's been the plan the whole time to build him up to be the villain in Avengers 3.
What's GOTG? Game of Thrones Game?
the main MCU villain moving forward. He might not have much to do with AoU but you'll feel his presence in almost all the movies going forward. Guardians of the Galaxy is GOTG. This is all leading toward Thanos and the infinity gauntlet which will be Avengers 3
Guardians of the Galaxy.......Yeah, you must not be into comics even a little bit
I didn't realize Guardians of the Galaxy was on the same level as Justice League or X-Men. Shit, it's not like I asked "Who's Spawn???"
Plus, it was a joke, bro. Assuming anything with GOT is not Game of Thrones.
Guardians of the Galaxy, the trailer came out for that yesterday. But ya Thanos is still very much in play, at the moment were looking at him attempting to assemble the Infinity Gauntlet.
I endorse this response fully.
I goto say I don't think this looks cast very well. I could see Bell as Sue's brother (forgot his name) but I can't see him as the thing. Also, teller as mr fantastic? Wut, that kid from 21 and over?? I like Michael B Jordan and think he might be the closest to playing his role the best. Obviously Kate Mara is hot, but I duno, this all just seems a little forced and all the male actors are supposed to play adults? Pretty sure they are all 26 and under
They'll probably go the ultimate fantastic four direction which started with everybody as teenagers.
Went from being under-represented in Hollywood to over the shark. It seems like every other movie now is some comic book movie. And the number of reboots and re-reboots is just staggering. No one can even stick with a single incarnation of the story anymore.
Michael B. Jordan was in Friday Night Lights!
that they're close with Malik McDowell.
Without Tobias, Lucille and Debris, I'm not really sure that this will be a nu start.
I wonder how they will explain Johnny Storm and Sue Storm as brother and sister as one is black and the other is white. But I do love Michael B. Jordon as Johnny Storm
What makes you think there will even be an explanation?
Mommy had lots of special friends. Some of them even stayed for sleep-overs!
Personally, I like the casting save for Bell, who seems a bit small for the Thing. But again, The Commish wasn't a logical choice and he seemed fine.
Still mad about Wallace. But now the question has been answered: he's become a fucking superhero and movie star.
