Arizona jumps to 17 after being unranked

With this team and the many issues, polls are not very important. Coach Howard has a monumental task ahead of him to get this team to gel and be ready to compete. I am surprised they are even ranked after the past few games

I do, too. But this may be a rebuilding year. There is no injecting the team with an athleticism it doesn't have, almost across the board; defense takes time to acquire; and if we cannot run our sets to get our shooters space and confidence, we may not win a ton of games.

Hard adjustment when your team has been so dominant, but not something to take personally. And--it's worth remembering--more than one of Beilein's teams did not gel until deep in the year.

Yeah, team isn’t looking good right now, what with the volume of turnovers (many unforced) and poor shooting. Need time to gel and find their roles. Playing way too fast and making bad mistakes. Let’s hope for a growth spurt in Dec.

As it should. The team is definitely a work in progress. No one should really be concerned at this early point in the season.   The obvious goal is for this team to find its footing and gel as a unit. It is all about making the tournament.

Purdue looks difficult to deal with. I thought we'd have the size to at least man up but even if we did, where are the guards who can score on our team? Hopefully the usual purdue face plant is coming at some point. And after arizona, from what i hear (didnt watch), manning up against bigs is not a strength.

And, UNC got beat up bad by Tenn, so maybe we can use that game to put things together? probably too soon as both teams will struggle.

I hope Juwan shows he can develop some guards, not just hire out or use beilein guys... this season will tell a lot in that regard. Next as well.

So you think that maybe Juwan cannot develop guards because Smith was a transfer that totally transformed his game during one year at Michigan?  Plus look at the growth in Brooks' game.  Juwan didn't have a chance to develop DDJ so Juwan's (and staff) track record with guards so far is pretty good.  But yes, we are still gathering evidence.

Michigan is likely one of the top 25, probably top 15 teams, eventually but not right now. If I had a vote, I’d probably have dropped them out.  Hopefully the light schedule for the rest of the month will let the team get on track.

Our early season struggles should solidify just how amazing the Fab 5 were.  You generally can't just roll McDonalds AA's onto the court and expect victories.  Rose/Webber/Howard may have been the best 3-freshman combo in college basketball history.

Seems right to me.

Not sure how a team with just Eli and Hunter as returning starters could have been a top 5 team without even seeing them play?

This team is going to take some time to figure it out it appears, so hoping that will happen prior to getting too deep into the B1G conference play

This team is way too easy to figure out right now. Double Dickinson, close out on Brooks, make someone else drive to the rim and block their shot. Rinse and repeat. We have no real other threats to put defenses in conflict and free up the only two guys that can score consistently. I dunno if it's a blip but the perimeter shooting has regressed more than I thought possible. Like, not only are we missing, but most shots aren't even close.

The team has ZERO outside shooting.  If this can't be fixed, it will put a cap on their success.

We were expecting Houstan to step into a 10-15 PPG role and that looks overly optimistic at this point.

Right now you have Brooks shooting 47% from 3 and Jones shooting 43% ( only only 7 shots).  No one else on the team is higher than 30%.  The team is 28% overall.

I feel pretty confident in saying that if the team continues to shoot under 30% from 3, they will be a mid-level Big Ten team at best.

2 losses in 3 games, that hurts. The level of optimism was so high at the start of the season so now the bar is lower. The talk was win the B1G regular season, then win the playoffs, then go to at least the NCAA Championship game.

I'm all in for this team but my bar is much lowers. Let's just start winning a few games in a row and take it from there.

Makes sense.  It's one thing to get rolled in your 2nd game in Vegas with non-friendly game times for an Eastern time zone team, but to be up double digits on Seton Hall at home and not finish the deal is worthy of a drop.

That’s a good spot honestly.  I didn’t think  the freshmen would be world beaters out of the gate so I figured we’d struggle early and get better as the year goes.   Hopefully we will get better because the team has some big flaws.

I'm shocked we ranked.  What have we done to deserve being ranked?  Nothing.

I expect us to improve throughout the season, but as of now, we have not looked the part of a top25 team and don't have the results either.

Expecting that the AP voters kept Michigan in the top 25 solely due to their being ranked sixth at kenpom.com. Villanova, with losses to UCLA and Purdue (ranked 2nd and 3rd in the AP poll) is the only other 2-loss team ranked in the AP top 25, and they’re ranked ninth and ninth by kenpom.com where Arizona is ranked 20th and Seton Hall is ranked 31st.

A home victory on Wednesday against Tarleton State (currently 1-3 before facing North Dakota State in Fargo), unless it’s by substantially more than the 26-point margin that 4th-ranked Kansas had at home over Tarleton State, won’t help Michigan’s kenpom.com rankings, so it might be fair for the Wolverines to drop out of the top 25 next week before they travel to Chapel Hill to play UNC on December 1.
