At least one nice thing came out of this game.

HUH? The Lions almost always find the most soul-crushing and entertaining way (for the other team) to lose a game in the final minute. It's not even BPONE at this point. All Lions fans just know if the game can be lost in the final minute, the Lions will find a way to lose the game.  It might be why we can relate with Nebraska fans.

The Lions turtled! For the first 3.5 quarters we had Gamblin' Dan Campbell going for every fourth and short and hitting on almost all of them. Then on the drive they had to close out the game, he got conservative, rushing the ball into a stacked line over and over. They got another 4th and 2 with a chance to put the game away with just one more first down. Instead he kicks and the guy misses it. You've got to go for the jugular there! If you give an NFL team the ball with 1:30 left needing one score to tie or go ahead, they will do it almost every time. 4th and 2 to win the game, you take your shot right there.

Afraid we are going to have a "new" coach growning pains with Dan.  Although I will believe the Lions are actual playoff contenders when I see it.  They could be 3-0 should be 2-1 but they are typically 1-2.

Disappointed in myself for subjecting my kids to this junk.  Now they are cursed with Lions fandoom.

Anyway:

Go Blue

Go Lions

Mostly serious. After they go pro, unless they’re on a team I root for I couldn’t care less honestly. I mean if I see a headline of a former M player doing well I’ll be like good job. Definitely won’t cheer for them when playing a pro team I root for either.

And that goes for players of our rivals as well. The pistons / lions getting someone from msu or osu? Don’t care I’ll still root for them because they’re part of the team.

Me too.  My local team was the Lions in the 80s, then my dad moved jobs and the local team was the Bengals in the 90s.  Not much to root for outside Barry Sanders, who of course, was a lot of fun to watch.  It was mostly frustrating watching Emmitt Smith run for 4 yards before being touched, and Barry having to dodge defenders in the backfield, then hear a discussion about who is the better running back.  Thankfully, history has decided that debate.

I can see how you wouldn’t root for them if they are playing your favorite pro team but Michigan alumni success in the NFL is important to recruiting.

But beyond a purely transactional view, it’s just nice to root for your guys.  Josh played hard at a Michigan so his success makes me happy.

I think the thinking was pretty straightforward. Stafford was a valuable asset that was not going to do anything other than maybe help them grab a wild card. They wanted a rebuild. They got draft picks and freed up cash while taking a QB good enough to start for a mediocre team. Goff was certainly not reason they lost today and has looked fine this season. Did you see Oruwariye today?

Choosing to kick a long field goal in the 4th with a kicker who hasn't been accurate that day knowing he will probably miss it and give up good field position vs. going for it on 4th when you've had huge success on 4th down conversions?

Sorry, that doesn't strike me as "pretty solid".
