Indiana beats Iowa
Indiana just took down Iowa in Iowa City giving us sole possession of first place again. I'm sure there will be a couple more losses for us given the strength of the big ten but it feels good to be alone at the top again.

Since my 3rd place thread may not survive:
There is one team at the top of the standings. That would be your Michigan Wolverines! IU marched into Iowa City and knocked off the Hawkeyes. IU went on a Michiganesque 23-2 run which broke things open in the final minutes. Iowa went 9/34 from the field in the second half. Garza did his usual effort (28 points, 12 rebounds), but 0 points by Bohannon (on 9 shots) along with an in spired effort by Jackson-Davis (23 points on 9/14 shooting) proved to be too much. Thanks IU - we knew you were good for something!

Anything we can take away from the way Indiana handled Iowa and how we might be able to take advantage of it?
January 21st, 2021 at 11:29 PM ^
I think someone may have used a voodoo doll on Bohannon - I am afraid that may not be repeatable. Iowa missed lots of good shots. It was an ugly game.
January 22nd, 2021 at 12:23 AM ^
I think Bohannon played against Robbie Hummel
January 22nd, 2021 at 1:21 AM ^
Yes, we gotta do the things that make us successful.
I could be a football coach.

CJ Fredrick got hurt and didn’t play in the second half. That slowed down their offensive attack a little bit.
January 22nd, 2021 at 8:55 AM ^
So hurt Fredrick. Noted. ?
January 22nd, 2021 at 10:56 AM ^
Just please no knee cap cannibalism.
January 22nd, 2021 at 11:11 AM ^
Go after Garza. Especially with the pick n roll, which he does not defend well at all. You can't expect Bohanon to miss all his threes, but Garza's bad defense is a constant.
Also, Iowa does not defend well against the drive. Meep meep!

Indiana needed that. The pregame show was talking about their 5 game schedule and them currently being a bubble team. They have Iowa, Rutgers, Illinois, Michigan and Iowa again. The toughest 5 game stretch of any team in the country, and if they are able to win 3 they could get in tournament contention.
January 22nd, 2021 at 10:15 AM ^
They were already in tournament contention before that game. Most experts already have them as part of the last for in. Winning that game puts them soundly in the field. If they win another one of the next four - that would further some of their status in the field. Winning three of the 5 would move them up two or three seed lines.

By Garza did his usual effort...
You mean he walked all over the place, hung out in the lane for 10 seconds on offense, threw elbows at defenders heads, went over the back on rebounds, and somehow managed to pick up only 1 foul?
January 21st, 2021 at 11:14 PM ^
A couple notes from this abomination of a game:
CJ Fredrick got hurt
IU shot 35 FTs and missed 14
Bohannon went 0-8 from 3
The last 2 minutes took an eternity
In the 2nd half, Iowa made 6 field goals and shot 20% before it was basically over. They actually went 11 minutes without a field goal.
January 21st, 2021 at 11:15 PM ^
Yep, Indiana did not play well. Iowa was just atrocious
January 21st, 2021 at 11:22 PM ^
They played defense and so...they did play pretty well.
January 21st, 2021 at 11:50 PM ^
Making 6 field goals in a half isn't just good defense, it's bad offense as well
January 22nd, 2021 at 3:13 AM ^
I only watched part of the second half, When Garza got the ball in the block he would try to back down his defender but another defender would come over quickly and steal the ball, this happened 3 times. So there was some good defense that did account for turnovers and some of the missed shots.
January 22nd, 2021 at 10:55 AM ^
Oh for sure. But you don't make 6 field goals in half even against a great defense when you're offense is playing at least average
January 22nd, 2021 at 6:52 AM ^
The weird thing was Iowa looked great in the first 10 minutes when they scored 25 points. I thought the game was going to be a blowout.
January 21st, 2021 at 11:21 PM ^
Did not know Frederick got hurt. That makes a lot of sense.

Wait so a top 5 team can lose to an unranked team at home and not freak the fuck out? For all the morons freaking out after the Minnesota game This is Basketball! Great win that helps our big ten title hopes! GO BLUE!
January 21st, 2021 at 11:44 PM ^
To be fair, I think a lot of Iowa fans are freaking out
They haven't played Wisconsin, Illinois, or Michigan yet and already have two conference losses
January 22nd, 2021 at 1:07 AM ^
Michigan get to face Illini, Iowa and Wisconsin one time the rest of the season is huge for them. Illini has to face Wisconsin twice but get to play Iowa and Michigan once. However, they're two games behind. Iowa has to face Wisconsin twice but get to play Illini and Michigan once. Finally, Wisconsin has to face Iowa and Illini twice and Michigan once so they have the toughest road to the B1G title even though they're 1 game behind.
Michigan is in great shape for the B1G title but they have to win games.
January 22nd, 2021 at 1:18 AM ^
Actually it is an advantage to Illini, Iowa, Wiscy that they only have to face us once the rest of the regular season!

January 22nd, 2021 at 9:12 AM ^
on the flip side, it's an advantage to us that we never have to play us. wouldn't want to go against those wolverines they way they're playing!
January 22nd, 2021 at 8:15 AM ^
Does your phone autocorrect “Illinois” to “Illini”?
January 22nd, 2021 at 10:30 AM ^
They are commonly called the Illini, shortened from the Fighting Illini (their team name).
January 22nd, 2021 at 10:56 AM ^
The Illini, yes. But in his post he's just calling them "Illini". It just looks odd.

This is big. Even without fans, homecourt advantage is still a thing in college basketball. Iowa failing to hold serve - and against a team that isn’t even considered a contender - could cost them dearly in the title race.
January 22nd, 2021 at 8:31 AM ^
we need to have a LOT more threads on this!

January 22nd, 2021 at 10:26 AM ^
Assuming a full 20 game BT schedule is played, I will be surprised if the champion has fewer than 5 losses. The conference is tough and outside of Nebraska each team is capable of beating any of the other teams.
