Illinois QB Jeff George Jr Transferring to Michigan
Michigan's QB competition will be interesting. George will be a grad transfer and have 2 years of eligibility left.

The QB Guru's first "guy" is McCaffrey
Lol, so we're just ignoring Peters completely now?
But would it be a surprise if McCaffrey ends up higher in the depth chart than Peters?
Could this happen?
1) Patterson
2) George
3) McCaffrey
4) Peters
If there was hot talk of Peters flying away if he was at 3rd string, how hot would it be if he was 4th string?
Trying to justify your subscriptions?
Obviously it’s because Shea is going to play MLB any day now.
Well hell, who doesn't want to play Middle Line Backer for Don "The Dude" Brown?
Here's a tweet from Jeff George Jr., himself:
I mean... tweeting Go Blue is hardly saying you’re transferring to Michigan.
Ill wait for more info.
Read the Rivals link in the OP. It has a quote from George saying, "I'm going to Michigan as long as my grad school application gets accepted," George said. "I saw it as the best opportunity for me and Coach Harbaugh is giving me the chance to compete, which is all I’m asking for. Also, Michigan is an unbelievable program with great history and I’m looking forward to contributing to that in any way possible."
Free grad school at Michigan while you play with the football team? Sounds like a great deal to me. Congrats Jeff.
If he is a walk on, will grad school really be free?
I am sure his old man can rub together a couple of nickels to pay for grad school.
This feels more like a walk-on/GA situation while he pursues his graduate degree
Right? I feel like using a scholarship for Jeff George Jr would be downright bizarre.
That was my read too. Like, if he makes the roster maybe there is a scholarship for him. But I guess of you assume you'll have a spot and it's only a 1-year commitment, it's not the worst. I do wonder what this means for the roster going forward, since that's a buttload of QBs and not a pair of established tackles in the bunch.
George actually has two years of eligibility remaining since he redshirted in 2015 and is graduating in three years which makes this potential move all that more interesting and slightly confusing based on the QB depth chart.
This is what it means for the roster:
This only makes sense if there’s a QB om the roster that is moving on - mainly Peters.
Even then, Peters is here this year and we also have McCaffrey backing up Shea. Milton is probably best served with a red shirt. Is Harbaugh friends with his dad from his NFL days?
Perhaps this is injury insurance?
I don't really get the move -- George Jr. didn't show that much at Illinois. Hope he does better here.
That is my thought!! He's having a hard time staying on the field at Illinois - ILLINOIS!!! How the hell does he beat out Patterson, Peters, and McCaffrey? I don't see the sense this should be making...
Maybe Hunter Johnson will change his mind and come here also.
ALL your grad transfers are ours!!!
Hunter Johnson is just a regular transfer, not a grad transfer.
Can UofM grant him an honorary degree making him immediately eligible?
/s
Now despite the numbers crunch at QB, that would be a move I can get behind
By George! I think we have another QB in the mix!
I actually like this because when the fans get irked by QB play, they can start singing the theme song of George of the Jungle throughout the Big House and this song can blare over the speakers to signal they want Jeff to come in.

Sometimes I feel the rest the country is playing chess and Harbaugh is playing checkers.
Great take
Are you auditioning for your own morning talk show on Fox Sports One?
See, it is moments like this where "username checks out" really work as a reply, as someone definitely carries an albatross with them regarding the state of Michigan football.
That guy has always been an @ssclown and anti-Harbaugh. Sad state of existence if he is really a Michigan fan.
Really? Wow.
Insurance?
We had Speight, O'Korn, and Peters get injured last year...O'Korn got better before the end of the season, but that is a lot of injuries.
O'Korn got better? I thought he kept getting worse
George sounds like someone who was more interested in getting into Graduate School rather than becoming the starting QB. Good for him..
This does make sense, but for 2019.
George had two years of eligibility. If Peterson transfers out and Patterson is a one-and-done rental, then our 2019 QB roster is:
- RS Soph McCaffrey
- RS Frosh Milton
- Frosh McNamara
- Frosh QB2?
It wiuld be the widst idea in the world to have a 5th Sr with a year in the system on the roster to battle for the top spot or be the primary backup if the others aren’t ready yet.
Dear God! The lack of edit function on mobile, coupled with my fat thumbs on this iPhone SE, almost makes that post unreadable!
What I meant to say was “It wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world …”
I was worried you might be having a stroke at the end of the post. Much relieved.
my JOK PTSD begs to differ

Here's the thing about Peters though, if he is really going to transfer then that decision I feel like is coming SOON. I'd prefer him to stay but there is definitely a log jam now at QB. So if he feels like he's getting passed then why sit on the sidelines this year, transfer next and sit another year out?? This might mean another shaky backup situation this season.
Peters was taking the first team reps in the Spring. So not sure when he got passed. No coach wastes first team reps on a kid that they don’t expect to play.
Not picking on you, but I see this "first team reps" argument a lot. Everybody did receive "first team reps." However, everyone was evaluated differently. Meaning, there is a true pecking order. Nobody is safe in the spring.
Shea was not guaranteed to play this fall during spring practice so 1st team reps don’t seem telling during a competition.
Harbaugh must see something he likes. It sure seems like a move made to protect the depth chart from a transfer out.
Peters could grad transfer after this season and immediately be eligible to play two years elsewhere a la Malzone, which is why he would potentially hang around if passed on the depth chart. Don't know if that's his academic track but he was an early enrollee like Malzone.
This is a make sure our 3rd stringer isn't a true freshman in '18 and '19 move. Kind of a weird one, but after 2017 Harbaugh is doing everything to ensure QB depth.
So let me get this straight, we need a 48% passer to bolster our QB unit in Year 5 of a program?
If Peters does transfer out, it would be far from the worst move in the world. Unless you know of another grad transfer on the market that is OK with being a (highly probable) backup for his remaining two years.
We are set this year as far as the depth chart, and if Peters leaves...just grab a better grad transfer next year. This move is puzzling because you took a guy who was a part time starter from one of the worst teams in the conference.
Dude is a grad transfer walk-on whose dad is a good friend of Harbaugh. Why don't you stop licking your own @sshole for a moment.
