I hate 3:30pm starts

Submitted by DesHow21 on

We always seem to do so much better with the noon starts. When it is a home game, don't we have the final say in the start time?

I submit that the average temperature for a noon start is significantly higher than a 3:30 start, therefore we should ALWAYS prefer the noon start.

I don't have access to the database that the mathlete has, but at least from my memory I'd be willing to bet an arm and a leg that we have a much higher winning percentage with noon starts (at Michigan Stadium). Maybe the Mathlete or Misopogon can put this theory to the test. This data (and my memory) could be biased by the fact that we schedule most patsies for noon starts though.

If you were wondering IOWA is a 3:30 pm start  tomorrow :(

makes it truly an all day affair, which is a good thing when we're winning (the whole soaking in the scene thing) but not so good when we're losing (prolonging the agony and burning an entire day for a loss). However, lacking a crystal ball and with the forecast being favorable for tomorrow I'm planning on a gorgeous October afternoon in Ann Arbor and a solid victory over a decent opponent.

if we lose on a noon start, my padded room-college football boycott then starts at 3:30PM and I cannot enjoy any other games.  For the 3:30 starts, I at least get to enjoy the noon games before the severe depression sets in.

Whenever that is but I lived in Cali for two years and there is nothing better than waking up to kickoff (noon games being 9 am on the west coast). Then you have all day to feel great, watch highlight after highlight of the win and root like crazy for everyone else to lose

So 3:30 kicks ass. And next years 8pm ND game is going to be awesome. That crowd is going to be rebid and loud as hell by 8pm.

...so that's why we'd have a better record at noon.

3:30 is kinda like prime time for college football.  That's why CBS typically starts their college football coverage at that time.  We're still a big attraction, so we will get a large number of our start times at 3:30 or later.

Typically, the OSU game has been a noon kickoff, but our noon starts are usually against MAC teams, the FCS teams and your typically lightweight Big Ten teams.

Because that means waking up / staying up until 3:30am in Singapore (halfway around the world) to watch our team kick some ass.

Then again, I would be happy to watch them unleash fury upon our opponents anytime, anyday.

which is perfect.  Those noon starts are tough if travelling (for me its 2.5 hours of driving each way).

I always DVR the game ... on victory's I watch when I get home  -  no matter what time it is.  If we don't win  -  well  -  I have been know to just delete it w/o seeing 1 play.   MSU game - I watched the 2 picks in the endzone, said WTF ... then hit DELETE  !!!

As a student, I liked the 3:30 starts because it gave me more time to get trashed.  As an alumnus, I like the 3:30 starts because I don't have to get up at the ass-crack of dawn to do any tailgating.  Plus I think the overall atmosphere is better for 3:30 games.

I like 3:30 starts because I actually have time to get drunk. Secondly, tailgating for noon starts is awkward. It is hard to decide what to grill. Should I grill breakfast food or lunch? Breakfast doesn't go along with shots of tequila.

at how many people get hammered before games.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's so different from the mindset I want to be in when I watch the games.  I have a couple drinks before, and that's purely to calm my nerves.   I like zero distractions.

That's why noon games are better. Game ends earlier, real drinking starts earlier.

A noon game gives me time to do SOME of the stuff on "The List" before the game and the rest after...if I'm not drinking.  3:30 blows a huge hole in the day and I tend to do nothing after that game because the primetime game is on soon.

I may be in the minority in preferring the 3:30 whether I am home or in AA.  If I am in AA it means I drove 10 hours Friday and got in after midnight.  If home, as I will be tomorrow, it means I can get everything else I have to do finished before 3:30 and be completely undistracted for the entire game.

Also recognize that I am older - kids 20 and 18 (one at UM) so have less to do with kids etc.  Now that everyone drives I rarely have to leave the house on the weekend.  What a glorious phase of life.

I like the 330 starts cuz living here in Seattle, it means I can actually sleep off most of my hangover instead of waking up still drunk and slipping into the hangover during the game. Waking up at 830 to catch the game is just killer.

12. As a student, noon games let me get up at 7 or 8 and tailgate, go to the game (on time or earlier) and then take a nap before going out Saturday night.  Naps aren't just for toddlers people.

Impaler-

I know others have told you this, but, man, your avatar makes me sad inside. Any way you could change it to, say, the original Vlad the Impaler? Pretty please? My stomach drops when I see a pic of Vlad Emilien. I know- not rational; but hell, man, emotions are emotions. I loved Vlad, and thought he was going to flourish.

We may have veto power over a night game, but that's it.  (I'm not sure about that.)  We have no control over whether a day game starts at 12:00 or 3:30.  The networks decide that.

The only real influence we have is at the conference level.  The Big Ten has refused to allow games on any day other than Saturday, and does not allow night games in November.

Was for a noon game.  Thanks to some guys from Toledo who's names I have forgotten a case of beer and all their jello shots and the handle of jack!  I ran off in the second quarter and passed out under our car on Pioneer HS's Field only to be found by my now wife after the game.  I had a half inch of sleet on my feet but the engine block was still a bit warm I suppose.  I woke up at the US/Canadian border in Niagara Falls 4.5 hours after the game ended very hungry, hungover, angry (I couldnt remember any of the game) and anxious for bed.

I prefer the 3:30 games mostly because it is more likely to be on a TV network I can watch. There is a lot more Big Ten Network games on at noon (i dont have cable or satelite, have ATT DSL so I get ESPN3) then at 3:30.

Although this is not a problem with home games as I go to most of those.
