Why choose A? You have to reach farther and you may jam a finger if you are drunk/ hungover. A is a horrible choice.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:18 AM ^
For the obvious reason you suggested and many more, I'm baffled as to why anyone would ever choose A.
I've met a couple of *really* anal-retentive people who believe A gives the operation a "neater" look. Whatever.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:20 AM ^
if you have kids or a cat, it's harder fro them to unroll 700000000 sheets onto the floor.
this may lead to the biggest pos bang of my life.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:24 AM ^
I adopted the A method after losing 4-5 rolls to puppies.

why do you?

Made me think of this:
November 1st, 2010 at 10:31 AM ^
I don't have any cats, but I have toddlers. Always go with A.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:10 AM ^
Always effin B
November 1st, 2010 at 10:18 AM ^
Of Course. Choice "A" is UNACCEPTABLE!!!
November 1st, 2010 at 10:13 AM ^
seem to prefer A? Is there some Freudian behavior patterns here that we're all missing that defines A vs. B?
November 1st, 2010 at 10:43 AM ^
I will even change them if I'm at someone's house/in a restaurant. (I know.)
November 1st, 2010 at 11:17 AM ^
Present your case here why B is better than A... is it a matter of aesthetics? Is B simply more harmonious in terms of Feng Shui? I can't think of a single reason this is more functional or user friendly than B. I cannot relate unless I have been enlightened.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:49 AM ^
I do have a cat, but she (thankfully) does not disturb the toilet paper. I think I like the alignment of the elongated planes of the toilet paper line and wall. Even on the fancy stand-alone toilet paper holders, the line of paper against the side cabinet of the sink/opposite wall is neat, organized and aesthetically pleasing. Alternatively, option B is messy, and I feel like it comes off quicker/easier (even though it doesn't) which makes me think that if I spin too aggressively I will 1) waste a lot of toilet paper or 2) risk having to re-roll.
November 1st, 2010 at 12:36 PM ^
The empty space behind the wall for opt. B is a visual dead space that allows the paper to wave in the breeze more, not to mention possibly getting caught up and tangled with passing clothes.
If the t.p. holder were recessed in the wall, there might be more of a counterpoint for B, but for modern surface mounted designs, A is the clear aesthetic choice.
From a practical stand point, A re-rolls back onto the roll easier than B, in case a toddler goes nuts.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:16 AM ^
thing is that this can even be considered a debate when one option is OBVIOUSLY better than the other.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:17 AM ^
Always B.

well reasoned, rational debate on the board since around 8:30 Saturday night.

"Toilet paper hung in improper overhand fashion"?
Clearly the CPS of Springfield requires A. So says the Simpsons, so shall it be done*.

My hat is in the B group

Who are we kidding, this is it's own thread. It's just cleverly disguised as Michigan football. Will I delete it? No. I'm definitely allowing some stupidity today. Hopefully everyone gets it all out of their system early and will be tired of it all by Wednesday after the UFR has been beaten to death.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:42 AM ^
Aside from the pet and toddler responses there is alos one very good reason to use A. When I use the bathroom and need a piece of toilet paper I like to employ a one hand ripping motion. When it is in the B position this almost always cause the roll to spin out of control, leaving a giant pile of TP on the floor to either be rolled back up or discarded.
In the "A" position this method can be easily done without incident. This is the biggest reason I choose position a, even more importnant than the fact that I have quadruplet 2 year olds running around (though it does prevent them from playing with it too).
November 1st, 2010 at 10:59 AM ^
Sounds like you need to work on technique. You should fire your wipe coordinator, but retain your head deficator.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:01 AM ^
Sounds like you need better ripping technique.
November 1st, 2010 at 12:41 PM ^
A certainly leads in re-roll efficiency ratings.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:47 AM ^
B, I go with whatever Ellen says. She likes women and so do I so I feel we have something in common. I also love the Gap.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:22 AM ^
This may be the greatest thread hijacking of all time.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:35 AM ^
now I feel bad.
(see what I did there?)
November 1st, 2010 at 12:01 PM ^
I find I interchange A and B, since I don't really care which way I put the roll in. However, I have always preferred tp to be "at large" near the toilet, where the best elements of A and B come into play.
November 1st, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
and I still choose B. That's the way it was in the house I grew up in and A just feels wrong.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:09 AM ^
article was on the Detroit News the Monday after the loss to Iowa. To sum it up, Brandon said that wins and losses arn't the only thing that factor into the decision on Rich Rod's job status. Hopefully this stance hasn't changed too much in 2 weeks.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:23 AM ^
I have heard that Brandon's default position is too keep Rich. He is looking for reasons to keep him, not get rid of him. DB values consistency and knows that you cannot have constant churn at the head coach position and be successful in the long term. Look at Notre Dame or any of the flash in a pan programs that we have seen of late. Notre Dame can't get its feet under them because they are changing coaches every 4 or 5 years. A Cincinnatti, for example, cannot maintain its success because its coaches are getting poached every few years after a good run.
Who knows what is going to happen at this point. Just win and everything will take care of itself.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:33 AM ^
Hopefully you are right. I believe he feels the same way.. A coaching carousel every few years would be a joke..
And after the way the media has treated this team the last few years, what coach would want to step into this fire
November 1st, 2010 at 7:12 PM ^
Umm, i think you're in the wrong thread.
A or B?
November 1st, 2010 at 10:12 AM ^
Dave Brandon's pimp hand works in mysterious ways. It is not for us to prognosticate where it will strike, merely to observe the aftermath should it strike.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:41 AM ^
...until after the end of the season. Ask him anytime, up to the end of the Ohio State game, and his answer will be, “Rich Rodriguez is our coach.”
At the beginning of the year, I thought 7-5 would be good enough, and that goal remains within reach, although there is very little room for error. I don’t think Brandon would find 5-7 acceptable, so the real dilemma is at 6-6.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:47 AM ^
then B. Otherwise, A is acceptable, but only under those conditions.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:52 AM ^
generally evaluated on past performance and future expectations. Let's try this with RR.
Past: Horrible, but everyone knows this
Future performance: This is where it gets interesting. The Offense is great (#4 total offense in the country). The Defense is a disaster (#106). However, next year with Wolfolk coming back and the 3 freshmen corners (and JT Floyd) having 1 more year of experience, may become about average. Having an average D, with a Top 5 O, equals a pretty good football team. Also, our punting will improve and kicking can’t get much worse, so special teams should improve.
The question is, how much is the next guy going to be over RR. I don't know, but unless DB has his heart set on a specific coach (like Harbaugh) who may bolt for a new job, it probably makes sense to keep RR for next year. What may even be more interesting is if Michigan fans/ doners rebel at having RR around for another year, assuming we only win 5 or 6 games total.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:11 AM ^
People who are worn out on this or think it has been discussed again and again, need to live with it. Saturday night opened the flood gates and people are going to talk about change.
Don't necessarily agree that a head coaching change must be made, but if people want to talk about it, I can choose not to read it.
Folks laughed and poked fun when it was suggested by me and a few others after about game 3 to really enjoy those wins. A lot of the same people who are bathing in negativity now.
We'll see how it rolls.
November 1st, 2010 at 7:15 PM ^
Aesthetically, I like A, and would prefer to go that way if I wasn't incredibly lazy. I have to admit, i've switched back and forth and tend to be streaky and inconsistent. Currently I'm rollin with B, and it seems to be the norm lately, but our daughter is 8 now and our puppy is nearing 2, so maybe that has something to do with it. We'll see if we revert back to A with more kids in next year or so, i'm rooting for A to make a comeback.
