That’s what you do

Student from 93-97

Yost in those days will always be the best Michigan venue in my mind. Nothing compares.

Did he have a shoulder harness under his shirt?

I have broken my collarbone twice and there is no sling required. You wear a harness under your shirt and can totally swing your arms. If he broke his collar bone as reported here, what you saw is as expected. If he sprained his AC joint, unless it was really mild, he would still be in a sling. This might be bad news.

Or the injury was way more minor than originally thought.

There is a really big

There is a really big difference between a collar bone break and an ac sprain. Can't play with a broken collarbone but can with a sprain

If you want to run the tunnel

Try the big house 5k in the spring. Its super cool to run through the tunnel, up the field and then touch the banner. I have done it the last two years and will try to do it every year from now on.

yep

This is exactly right. Dave Ablauf was talking about it on WTKA this morning. We go to 9 conference games and in the odd years, we have 4 home conference games. The idea is that we have to have 3 non-conference home games on odd years. This makes the schedule unbalanced from year to year but gives us 7 homes games each year.

Brian. Go watch episode III,

Brian. Go watch episode III, if only for the light saber battles at the end. I promise you won't be sorry.

Not bad at coaching defense

He just has a different philosophy. He doesn't give up easy threes and doesn't foul. Since Michigan is effecient, we will outscore most teams in a game of horse where generating good shots is the goal. If he taught his players to be more "grabby" like MSU or OSU, they'd have better defensive stats but would also give up more free throws and more issues with guys fouling out. Its a trade off which makes a lot of sense to me when you have the number 1 offense in the nation like he has had.

Optic nerve

Not optical.

Then what

Because at 14-0 the season won't be over

30 and below

The last two winters were anomallies. It is usually in the 30s and below for only three months, December, January and February. February is the worst month of the year for sure. Thanks god its a short one.

it was approved

They announced Hatch will receive a medical hardship because a governing body (big ten I think) just made the decision. Nothing more complicated than that I think.

2016

If we take Brown or Williams we are done recruiting 2016 as well, unless there is attrition. I think you can't take Williams unless you are confident he can run the point, because Spike will be gone in 2016 (unless he takes a redshirt this year) and Walton will be gone after the year so you have no heir apparent.

Brown is likely a 1 and done so that may open a spot in 2016 as well.

Dymonte Thomas

Seems like he could be a solution for the strong side linebacker in the 4-3 over we ran last year.

Who is ahead of him?

For college, top three is reasonable. I think coach K one, then there's Pitino, Izzo, Calipari (though I put Beilein way ahead of him. Belien has done more with less) and I don't think anyone else is close. I have Belein somewhere in the # 2 to # 5 slot.

I wish

I wish Chatman looked like Smotrycz. He is just so bad right now. Hard to understand

Just curious

Did it ever come out what his actual injury was? Are we sure he will be 100% next year?

too soon

Hogan said he is going back to the Farm. He needs to graduate this semester before he could transfer. If Hogan gets beat out for the starting spot in spring, i think he reconsiders. If he wins the starting job in spring, i bet he stays. But saying that its over because he said he is going back at this point is premature.

Junior

He flat out said he would commit to Michigan if his dad were hired. However, that was a month or so ago and he may have changed his mind. His last few interviews he seemed to be leaning towards other schools. We'll see.

oops

double

Calliing them Ohio isn't childish

Calling OSU "ohio" wasn't originally supposed to be a burn. It was what a lot of people called OSU in the 60s. (supposedly, I wasn't born yet). So that was what Bo called them. And thus Brady.

Not see the head shot?

There was a penalty called on that play for roughing the passer. They showed the hit on the jumbotron. He should have known even if he didn't.

Sorry, your medical take is wrong

I am a physician. A concussion just means your brain hit the inside of your skull. You do not get "knocked silly" without that happening. If Shane swooned because his leg hurt, its possible he didn't have a serious head injury. And the symptoms of a concussion can have a wide spectrum. But if he was lighthead, dizzy, had a headache, lost consiousness at all, he had a concussion and should have been yanked. And the way he was blinking as if to clear his vision seemed like his head was bothering him to me. Can't let the kid shake that off. The coaches have to take control and pre-empt the medical staff.

Carr?

That is never going to happen. Interim would be Mattison or Nussmeir.

play action

I am trying to figure out how much Hoke is involved in the offense. He has said "We want to be a play action team".

Last year, Borges would run under center play action on 3rd and more than ten all the time. I thought it was because he was a fool. But now I see Nussmeir doing that same shit, and he is supposed to be a hotshot coordinator on his way to being a head coach.

So, is that Hoke mandating the stupidity? No one thinks you are going to run it on 3rd and 22, so why go under center and play action. Its a waste time and motion that hurts the qb.

I hope the offense improves as the year goes on because the best hire available to me seems to be Nussmeir. I want to blame Hoke because I can't believe that our players are that bad and the only other consistent presence is him.

Campbell

will never be a DB. He plays defensive end in high school, so maybe DE if he bulks up. Kid is 6'4".

I have a bad feeling

that Cole is going to be really good in a couple years but that we are going to burn his redshirt for one or two starts. Once Glasgow is off suspension and Kalis is healthy, I don't see him keeping his spot. Maybe the coaches think he is good enough that he won't be here five years anyway and they want him to get experience against App State in case they need him in an emergency later, but it is very unfortunate that our interior can't push Magnuson outside.

slot depth

I think Ross Douglas in the slot says a lot about our tight ends. I think we will be in a lot of three and maybe some four receiver packages due to the lack of tight ends who can both block and are a receiving threat. I think we will also use a u back a lot.

horrible

York made a horrible decision and hurt someone badly and it could have been worse. That being said, his story reminded me of an NPR story I just heard about what growing up around violence does to your brain.

People who are exposed to fear and violence as a small child develop a different fight or flight response than people who don't. Its actually a natural adaptive response and people who have seen real violence experience a much greater amount of fear and have poorer impulse control.

I don't know what York's childhood was like, and his behavior is unacceptable, but I think people shouldn't act like they know what was going through his head.

Exactly

We know for sure Glasgow is a starter since he is one of our top two linemen, with Magnuson. Mags may start at guard or tackle. Now the question is who are the other three. Makes sense to get Cole, Bosch miller and dawson reps to see if they can handle it. Its a little like preseason pro football. You don't play your for sure starters much if at all so you can see who is number 2 and 3.

woohoo!!

Go USA.

Booker

Why?!?!? Why didn't you come to Michigan!!!???? I am happy we got MAAR but Booker would have been more of an impact player. And cleary he wasn't afraid of competition. Dammit.

Hoke plans for the whole game

I would like to see the shotgun, read option and short passing because I believe it is our best chance to move the ball and score, but Hoke makes a gameplan with both sides of the ball in mind. He let Borges air it out more against Indiana because he knew we would need to score to keep pace. If he believes MSU can't score against our Defense, he will probably go very conservative on Offense to avoid turnovers. It will likely be a very frustrating game to watch.

Actually

We have another bye coming up

Exactly

Sounds like tyrone Wheatley. I think he may have not had the ability to cut or the build of a stub in high school but he has gotten bigger and if he can hit a hole and use that speed, he could be really good if he gets good blocking.

The other thing is, freshmen miss a bunch of fall camp due to classes. Combine that with Green being hurt and it isn't surprising at all that the freshmen are further down the depth chart. I think Green will get more and more carries as the year goes on, once he is fully healed and they can trust him on blitz pickups.

Exactly

My friends all come back to Ann Arbor for one game every year. These people are doctors and lawyers and such. I bought two tickets today for Nebraska with the dynamic pricing and they were for $271 a piece after fees. They're on the 50 yard line row 75, so they are good seats, but goddamn that's a lot to pay per seat for the third best game of the year. And I am trying to get one of my friends to take the other ticket but I have no takers because they are all just planning on scalping because everyone knows that you can get a ticket for way less than that outside the stadium before the game.

Fab five

Webber and jalen came back for their sophomore year to play for Michigan.

tourney

How our team performs in the tournament and specifically how those three perform will determine where they end up in the draft, but I think all three of them could wind up like this.

agreed

I think Horford has the lanky arms and good timing to be an above average shot blocker but also doesn't have the hops to be feared.

I seem to recall something...

about Belien should be fired or something something.

Also, he can't recruit.

HAhahahahahahahahaha.

Back court was awesome

Deron Williams and I am blanking on  the other two made for an amazing 3 guard offense.

Potential

I could see McGary being an All-American next year. He has some pretty impressive skills right now and will be more of a focal point next year. I remember the leap Morgan made and now Horford appears much improved as well and think McGary is going to blow up.

I think we are going to have to use a primarily 2 post offense next year. We don't lose anyone in our front court except maybe GRIII and we lose our starting back court. We get a point guard, a wing and another post player. That mean we have to find minutes for Morgan, McGary, Horford, Bielfeldt and now Donnal. Unless they are planning on redshirting Donnal, I expect a lot of Stauskas at the 2 and 2 posts with GRIII or Irvin at the 3.

Bellomy vs Gardner

Just to your one small point. I have read many posts here that stated how Bellomy looked better than Gardner, but I never saw that. In the spring game Bellomy's success was on short dump off passes that Gardner never attempted. The spring game said more about how good our defense and how bad our offensive line was than how good our qbs were.

The thing that made me think Gardner was always going to be better than Bellomy and that he was going to the the 2013 starter over both Morris and Bellomy (beyond his 4th year status and recruiting hype) was that he had a very good arm, stood tall in the pocket, had supreme confidence, threw a nice deep ball and was a superior athlete. And I felt that before Morris had mono or Bellomy played against Nebraska.

But I don't blame the coaches for using Gardner as a wide receiver. He was a good one, possibly the best on the team and was getting better. The thing that did really bother me was that they said in August and early Sept that he was still the #2 QB and that he was splitting reps at qb and receiver. During the Illinois, game Denard got hurt and Bellomy proved he clearly was not ready to play. Then after the Nebraska game they said that Gardner wasn't getting reps at QB so he couldn't come in.

In the Nebraska game, it was too late. We were screwed. The coaching malpractice was not getting Gardner enough reps to let him play QB in a pinch when they knew he was better than Bellomy and that Denard was fragile.

25 max

No matter how much attrition we have, 25 is our max this year. We can't backdate any since we used all 25 last year. We currently have three spots and are looking at Treadwell, Green, McQuay, Reschke and an offensive lineman or maybe Conley if he decides to re-commit and there is still a spot. I think we take the first three of those available, unless Lewan goes pro, and then we can take 4.

To answer your question though, assuming we have no more decommitements and someo of these kids want to commit, we have a couple redshirts we could let go. No need to name them here.

Notre Dame

is also a home game. Of course, MSU is on the road.

a few suggestions

Georgia at 13 even though they beat Florida? Oregon behind Kansas State even though KSU was beaten badly by Baylor vs. an overtime loss to Stanford for Oregon? I'd put Oregon 4th behind ND, Alabama and Georgia.

Save Denard.

Senior day is nice but I think we have to play him against OSU if there is any way possible. We don't need him against Iowa so unless he is close to 100%, I say keep him on the bench.

Now, for OSU, I think you pull out all the stops including using Denard as a running back against OSU if he can't go at quarterback.
