Looks like he will not be a graduate transfer after all.

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -- Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan will return to school as a fifth-year senior, opting to make one more run with the Cardinal next season instead of entering the NFL draft or pursuing other career paths. Hogan announced his decision via Twitter on Thursday, the final day for underclassman to declare for the draft. The school confirmed he would be back.

Nothing against Morris personally because we have no idea if he would, but would we really want someone who wanted to transfer because of the fear of competition?  Unless, Hogan was promised the starting job, but I doubt that would ever happen.

this isn't players already at a school competing.  This would appear (to a college player) that the starting QB from Stanford was being brought in to start at Michigan.  Abstactly, there would still be competition.  But in the real world, the writing would be on the wall.  Kids transfer for far worse reasons.

I trust you would condemn Braxton Miller, Jones or Barnett for transferring because of the "competition"--when for Miller, at least, the writing is on the wall. But in theory he could still end up the starting QB.

Or Gholston trasferring---doesn't he want to compete or is he simply making a good football decision?

Huh?

There are a lot of really BAD ADs that have good football programs.

Being a good AD isn't solely based on the success or lack of success from the football program.

If Michigan went 10-2 last year, Dave Brandon still would've been a shitty AD.

if he does want to transfer. If he asked for his release now, he is still going to be there until June. Quitting the team first seems far from ideal. Now he gets to go through spring practice, use all of the team facilities, etc. He also gets to see how the depth chart looks afterward. If he's smart about it, he'll get some applications out to keep his options open.

I'm fine with this. I believe one of our QB's will step up, likely Wilton Speight. Hogan can stay punting from the 29. No worries, we will be fine.

Word is Shaw was pushing him out until he saw Harbaugh was interested. That guy has been a pain this last month...

Good Lord, everyone has collectively given up on Morris. Sit back and watch as Harbaugh will Alex Smith him, might even Kaepernick him, minus the kissing bicep thing.

People need to have more confidence in our qbs. We haven't even seen two of them play yet and Harbaugh is one of the best in the business at developing qbs. Also, they don't have to be Tom Brady next year when the strength of our offense is in the run game.

Does anyone know if we even wanted him?  He looked slow with a long delivery.  No sour grapes, sincere observations.

Although if I were advising Miller what to do, I'd tell him to look hard at transferring somewhere for his last year where he can be THE man.  He needs a full season post-injury to raise his draft stock to where he can be in the money.

I had thought - or had heard - that Hogan did go as far as to seek advice from the Draft Advisory Board a few weeks ago and then of course spent some time mulling it over. In any case, I believe he is going to graduate in the spring anyway, and it would be hard to deny the pull of Stanford as a place to be. He would have been a nice addition as a transfer though.
