GA Safety Avery Walls REALLY Likes Michigan

Submitted by touchdown chad henne on

This is kind of old and therefore may not qualify as news, but apparently safety Avery Walls REALLY liked Michigan on his visit. Check out these quotes from an interview with another blue-chip, five-star defensive end Ray Drew:

"Yes sir, because I'm talking to a couple players that are being recruited by Michigan, like Avery Walls. I've had a chance to befriend him. We've been talking about them and he's been talking about how Michigan is a place I need to check out, and maybe set up an official with him so we can get up there at the same time. We're good friends now and we talk on the phone. He's trying to recruit me there I guess (laughing)."

Walls apparently has very strong feelings for the Wolverines, and Drew can certainly see that and it gives the Maize and Blue another card to play.

"He just told me he really liked it a lot and he told me it's down to... Wait, I can't say that (laughing). He really likes Michigan, I'll put it that way, he really likes Michigan. It's a place he'd like me to get up and see and give a chance to. If he went there he wouldn't mind me being a teammate up there with him."

Should Walls become a Wolverine, it'would certainly have an impact on Drew.

"Yes sir, because one thing you have to look at going into this is seeing the type of people you'd be surrounded with. With me knowing Avery pretty well, that's got to be a plus because I know I'd be around good people."

That, granted, is from an article at the end of June...but did the rest of you know how much Walls liked Michigan? He's practically recruiting for us.

Badass.

I am so sorry RR is so under the gun, because I keep hearing good things about how recruits feel about their trips to Michigan.   I believed in RR when they hired him, and I believe in what he is doing now.

Once we get Michigan level talent in here again, I expect the wins to keep coming.

Wow, I am suprised that slipped under the radar of other Mgobloggers considering we love even the most obscure quotes and that is definitive I would say about his love for Michigan. I am praying for some early wins in the season and RR job security so all of these kids can make it to AA.

The sleeping monster is slowly awakening. RR will make it through 2010, then after that, I truly believe we will be rewarded for our faith during these trying times. Spartan fans in their sheer stupidity think we have our answer to John Cooper, and want RR to stay. To that I say be careful what you wish for.

A-Fucking--MEN....

And its amazing how many people cannot separate perception from reality.  People so soon forget that Rodriguez is best-in-class, that he was Alabama's top priority. Be careful what you wish for, is right. The only difference in the situation we're in at the moment, compared to Carr's first years was that Rod had to rebuild the program, and Carr did not (along with the side issue of practice violations).  Carr was under the same gun to win, and it didn't go away until he brought the team to top consistent performance.

It should just be an NCAA requirement that players update their facebook statuses and tweets daily with their thoughts on schools and recruiting would make finding info on them easier for us..come on.

Imagine how this 2011 recruiting class could finish with a solid start and a good season...

Hart, Zettel, Frost, Walls, Hobbi? Others will emerge as well..

Interesting quote from him on his Scout profile page:

“I’m not 6-foot-2, but I play like I’m 6-4. I used to play hockey, so I love running up to people and hitting them. I’m tough. I’m also very versatile and can play cornerback too."

I didn't post this as it's own topic because I'm not sure that there's that much to discuss, but hey! We're on the subject of safety recruiting, so go watch Sam Webb's interview with Karlos Williams. Brother of Florida State linebacker Vince Williams, maybe visiting with HaHa and Dee. We've been in contact with him for a long time now. It should be interesting to see if he could be persuaded away from FSU.

I didn't realize that Karlos wanted that out, but since it is I'll tell you this.

A few weeks back I had spoken with Karlos about where he was at with FSU, and if Michigan had a solid season if he would consider them still. He responded with:

Let me just say this, signing day is a long ways away.

I also asked him what Michigan would have to do to get him on board, and he basically said they need to be around the 8 win mark, somewhere in that neighborhood to have his attention.

If we start off strong, there's a good possibility he could come up for a visit to either the MSU or Iowa game, and there could be a group with him that would include Florida TE Brandon Fulse among others.

I've been kind of sitting on this, because we were talking off the record, but since it's out, there's no reason to not share it.

that's what makes the UConn game bigger than normal.  it's a game we need to win and a good barometer as to where UM is as a team.

although, i said the same thing about the WMU game last year and like everyone else, was pleasantly surprised at the season's start.  though we were left with a disappointment by season's end.

i am even more optimistic this year, though, than last year - much more depth will allow us to survive some key injuries (god forbid) unlike last year.

Ray Drew is a big-time recruit with a quality list of offers (Alabama, Florida, USC, etc.).  Top player for the state of GA and apparently won the Strongest Man Award at Badger Elite Lineman Camp.

Walls is an excellent safety prospect that we really could use.  A bit undersized, but one of the best pound-for-pound hitters in the country.  We need a safety in this class, and I believe that Walls is Michigan #1 target.  Landing Drew would be a great bonus; he's a freak of nature.

This is probably the most exciting recruiting thread that I've read in a month.  Not saying that M will land all the names mentioned, but wow, it's nice to hear that Michigan is in play with a strong season.  RR and crew are obviously working very, very hard on the recruiting trail.  The momentum could start to roll big time in 2010!

RR Don Draper if he can sell Michigan to this many good recruits that are so far in the south out of touch with Michigan and embedded in SEC country. I think anyone is ridiculous to think RR should be fired. The guy can sell celery sticks to Charlie Weis....

Wow, awesome post. The use of "yes sir" is a nice touch as well. Seems like a kid with his head on straight. Hopefully the enthusiam of that interview translates to him actually signing with us. Even if he doesn't sign, it seems the evidence continues to mount in RR's favor with respect to his character/ability to recruit. Good to see RR drinking the SEC's milkshake a little bit with regards to recruiting in the Southeast (okay, maybe that's a little bit of hyperbowl [sic], but still) Eat your heart out, haters.

With Williams's brother already at FSU, and with Karlos telling Sam Webb how much he wanted to play with his brother, he'll be wearing a Seminole helmet before long. If you watch the interview with Webb, Karlos says recruiting is all about coaches telling recruits what they want to hear, and recruits telling the coaches what they want to hear. In this case, Williams is simply telling people with an interest in Michigan recruiting what they want to hear, which is that Michigan has a chance. I think the chances of him decommitting to Michigan are zero.

Walls is a different case entirely. Sounds like RR has got him looking at the big picture of Michigan... Walls has expressed an interest in business education, so Michigan has that in its favor. Plus how can you not like a guy from Georgia who used to play hockey?

Either that, or there is a sentiment out there that if Michigan wins eight games, then recruits can feel comfortable that the coaching staff recruiting them will be here when they arrive.

I have to say, I am pretty impressed with the recruiting "vibes" lately. We seem to be gaining momentum, and the feedback from the recruits seem very positive.

I just thought about how recruiting would go if we had won even 6 or 7 games last year and my brain had a Michigasm. I can't wait for order to be restored.

I do believe anything can happen from now until NSD, but it sounds as though Walls pretty much has his mind made up. I mean he is recruiting for Michigan so why would he waste his time talking it up if he did not plan on being a Wolverine(actually continue being a wolverine)

will be in our recruiting. When you consider how relentlessly negative the program and RR have been portrayed to the outside world since he was hired, and consider how miserable the results on the field have been in the last two years, I think it's amazing that Rodriguez and staff have recruited as well as they have.

I completely agree.  The recruiting could have been a whole lot worse which just goes to show that if RR is fired, we are doomed.  There is no way we could get high profile recruits to come to an unstable program which is what it would be if RR left.  He's got to stay and have a successful season.  If that happens, we will be in great shape.

When RR first came to Michigan, all we heard about was how much termoil there was in the program and how the players didn't like the coaches and lack of family values and such. In two short years (ok so the losses made them long, but) RR's team seems to be as tight as ever.  Every article I read when Tom or someone else is talking to a player or potential recruit, all seem to love the players and coaches. It sounds like the players are having fun, and this is after two losing seasons. That kind of optimism is great for the team.  I feel like they all believe in what they are doing, and are truly happy with the future of the program.  For me, this is all I need to know to predict a great season. Football is a team game, and it sounds like we have a team. Yes there are questions on different units, but if they all believe and trust in each other, those question marks will soon go away.  I can not wait for this year.
