|8 weeks 21 hours ago||just wondering what you do remember||
Schilling played guard his entire time. What do you remember him as?
|8 weeks 1 day ago||the OSU 2 pt conv call||
With the most important game of the year on the line, Borges choked on his playcall for the 2 point conversion.
forget that he showed them the formation, OSU called timeout and he came back with the same formation.
forget that his call required a QB with a broken foot to quickly plant hard on the broken foot and make a quick throw. that the throw was late was no surprise.
But I almost vomited when we ran the Gallon end around option pass against K State. Do I remember Gallon as a running QB in HS? What an awesome play? Borges would still have a job if he called the Gallon option and won the OSU game.
forget that this is the guy who made Denard Robinson into an ordinary QB
I have always felt a 14 year old with decent Madden skills would have done a better job.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||take off your Hoke-tinted glasses||
from your post:
"Brady Hoke inherited a program in shambles, one that was a virtual wasteland."
are you, like, 9 years old?
without going on a long rant, let me remind you that Brady Hoke inherited a sophomore who has just been named Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year. I understand that 3 years of watching Hoke abdicate offensive decision-making to a journeyman OC........with mind numbingly bad results....effects your brain, but Hoke inherited plenty.......and far more than RR ever had on campus.
He is just not much of a coach. Other than ND (who RR also beat), what are Hoke's big wins? Against a 6-6 OSU team? the lucky lucky win againt VT?
Three years in, who are the big contributions of his recruits? I see impact freshman and sophs all over.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||Bo's 6-6 year was decimated by injuries||
Harbaugh went down. at least 2 other QBs went down. played (and almost beat BYU) with our #4 QB (who would that even be on this team?) . other key injuries that year. Nobody was down on Bo, thought he was a wizard for nearly beating unbeaten BYU, who had a famous rally to win. Robbie Bosco on a sprained ankle, anyone?
|9 weeks 4 days ago||14000 points worth of drivel||
please. Hoke is getting his 4th year because he is Brandon's hire. He has proven he is not much of a coach.
Compare Hoke's results to Urban Meyer's (Urbs also gets much more poduction out of his high rated recruits). THAT is what a top coach accomplishes.
|10 weeks 2 days ago||you must be a Wal-Mart Wolverine||
otherwise, you would no how to spell the name of our basketball arena. Hint: its not named after a car company.
|10 weeks 2 days ago||Denard still makes me go "oooooooooh"||
|10 weeks 4 days ago||the line is a reflection of betting, not on field performance||
the line favoring Kansas State means they are trying to attract more MIchigan money, it is not the result of a computer program.
|13 weeks 5 days ago||this is just spin control||
please. Brian founded the blog and generally does a very good job. However, this is his paying JOB now (good for him) and he is making enough money to have employees...... so taking a little email shit from your customers doesnt seem like much of a hardship.
and while "Fickle" was a fine column that captured the emotion of the moment, his prediction of a 39-0 win for OSU was juvenile at best and worthy of Chicken Little. Anyone in the M administration and football program who read or heard of the prediction will now consider the "journalism" of MGoBlog to be second rate. But spin on, appreciation thread!
PS my huge neg of points is the result of my suggesting Hoke/Borges blew the Big Ten last year at Nebraska by not having a real backup QB ready, despite having the frequently dinged Denard at QB......
|14 weeks 5 days ago||or you go into full Bo Mode, and invoke 1969||
the 1969 OSU team was a juggernaut, coming in having gone for 2 at the end of the previous year's 50-14 ass whipping.
Hoke should go "full Bo" including the inspirational captain's speech, followed by charging out of the locker room through the unopened (fake) door.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||we need more on Papa Stauskas' band||
are you serious?! our bulked up Canadian gunner's father was a heavy metal star?
WE NEED TO KNOW more about it. YouTube videos? This is big. I trust this Board to root out the story.
|16 weeks 1 day ago||Hand passed out the consolation prizes the other day||
That whole tribute to Hoke and Muschamp was Hand's way of saying "many thanks, but no thanks" and anybody who is suprised today had blinders on.
Did Hand really indicate "chance to win a national championship" was what separated Alabama? as if his going to MIchigan was not enough for M to win? Yikes.
so 7-5 (at best) with a whipping from the Bucks.....we were ready to hang RichRod for that.
But Hoke is Brandon's hire, so he probably makes hime lose Borges, maybe Funk in order to give hin year 4.
Sadly, there is no obvious, sexy new HC candidate I can think of..
Thankfully, we got hoops.
|16 weeks 2 days ago||hard not to feel the consolation prizes have already been given||
I read Hand's praise of Muschamp and Hoke ("my favorite coach") the other day, and could not help but feel he was laying the groundwork for choosing Alabame......he is a good kid, and he seems to be trying to be respectful to the guys who put in a big effort and came up short.......
Hope I am wrong, but I will be shocked if Hand picks U-M.
|16 weeks 2 days ago||check out how Urban is doing and JUDGE NOW||
where do you get the idea that it takes 5-6 years to judge a coach? RichRod was gone in 3. Urban is in his second seasson, after taking over a .500 team.......and he has yet to lose.
Would you feel confident about judging what kind of coach Urban is right now?
|16 weeks 4 days ago||Now my neg points are a badge of insight||
After last year's Nebraska game, when Denard went out and Bellomy was clearly not ready, I posted that Hoke (and Borges) were not so good at their jobs, and the negbomb blew me into "never create content again" land.
Now that it is apparent that a kid with 3 years of video game experience would be an upgrade over Borges......and Hoke is talking about the players not executing? that he liked the offensive calls?
And for all the talk about Hoke being such a great recruiter, this is Year 3. About the only impact player he recruited is Funchess (maybe Ryan?).......
Time to roll out the RichRod metrics. Even RichRod's teams improved each year.
Now, a team with a losing record on the road has to win a game on the road to salvage a winning season......and when OSU runs it up, 1968 style, we will again be in the market for a new coach.
Prepare to deal with : 7-5 in Year 3 with embarrassments at the hands of MSU & OSU, with the talent we have, and with 3 of the wins being Central, Akron and UConn
We have already established that is unacceptable.
|17 weeks 2 days ago||do the words "Denard" and "wildcat" not work well?||
cant imagine why a lame offensive team like JAX would not have figured out a wildcat type package to put on the field as an alternative to a cigar store indian (oops, our cigar store indian) sitting in the pocket.
watched Josh Cribbs running wildcat for the Jets, rollling and throwing to an open receiver....wearing #16 with the dreads flying...........somebody show the tape to JAX
|17 weeks 4 days ago||its the mirror image of the RichRod situation, like it or not.||
If RichRod needed a new DC to right the ship, Hoke needs a new OC.
which do we like better: run up and down the field/ cant stop em or cant run the ball/ play pretty good D?
|19 weeks 2 days ago||Ferrell isnt funny||
there, I said it. Kind of a no-talent Benny Hill.
he is such box office poison, I am surprised they let him keep making movies. even Adam Sandler is funnier, and he hasnt been funny since Opera Man.
|20 weeks 4 days ago||is Hoke just the new Frieder||
Hoke is starting to remind me of Frieder.......a great recruiter, a lousy game coach.
How lousy? The strutting around the sidelines is a clue. He needs to have a headset on and have input into the offensive play calling.
In the "real world" a guy like Borges, with tons of good jobs (but none for very long) would be considered a journeyman, not a guru. That Hoke leaves him to operate the offense is a poor commentary on Hoke. Last year, he let Borges convince him Russell Bellomy was ready to play, so perhaps Hoke doesnt want to see the truth.
He can get away with leaaving the defense in the hands of Mattison, who we bought from the NFL. But Borges is not Mattison, and does not have nearly the resume.
My impression is that your average 14 year old with PlayStation expeerience could have done a better job fitting an offense to Denard, a unique talent Borges made do ordinary things.
But now its Year 3, which is all RichRod got, and RichRod at least left some talent behind.

even wasted time on MGOBLUE looking for this.
time to go to bed.

|22 weeks 2 days ago||ok, rookies||
1972......a 42-0 shellacking with Ed Shuttlesworth pounding in a few TDs........and the first time I saw Minnesota as a Michigan undergrad, it was a 49-0 in 1974.
|23 weeks 5 days ago||I was there, behind the flagpole||
behind the flagpole, to the right and behind the screen in seats obtained through the M Athletic Dept. the stadium is small enough that we could see the field okay, but we could not see the screen at all.
the one place the down/distance showed was often late, so we got most of our info by watching the down markers. Incredibly, the clock never stopped when the chains were being moved.....not even for a few seconds. I thought that was the college rule, that the clock stopped briefly while chains re- set....I know the clock does not stop in NFL, but.....
the fans were mellow and didnt get chippy in general, but on line in the mens room, when they had me outnumbered, they tried to get snotty, but it was stuff like, "so how come you're not a 30 point favorite?"
I would give the crowd 40- 60 UConn, but U-M owned the children's division. Tons of kids in Michigan garb, UConn fans apparently dont breed. 95-5, Michigan.
Great tailgate across the street organized by an army of U-M alumni groups, lots of food and drink being shared.
the rawk music feels cheesey. their band needs to play more, and the stadiuim is small enough they should be a factor.
A disappointing game, but the defense only gave up one real touchdown, one on a 7 yard "drive". Actually pretty good considering the way the O kept turning it over.
|25 weeks 2 days ago||well, last year I got neg-bombed for saying Gardner shoud have..||
....have been better prepared when Denard went down against Nebraska. Russel Bellomy? he was no more ready to be out there than your basic JV QB. Even with playing receiver, he shoudl still have been the (prepared) #2 QB when we needed him.
I still consider this the only real smudge on Saint Brady' s robe.
|25 weeks 2 days ago||He deserves the recognition, but...||
HIs catch and run at the end of UTL 1 is practically an iconic Michigan play, one that will be replayed for.......well, a really long time. So he already put his 10 into the lore of Michigan football, he's always going be #10 running across the field with Don Criqui freaking.

|38 weeks 1 day ago||and the Fred Jackson Award for Internet Journalism goes to ....||
the guy who wrote "Gallon is going to be the best dang tiny receiver Michigan's ever had"
hey kid, the famed Michigan's whole " #1 as a killer wide receiver" tradition started with a "dang tiny receiver" named Carter.....you may have heard of him. I think even Freddie the J would giggle at this one.
|39 weeks 6 days ago||1978 Rose Bowl still makes me ill....||
first posession, we move across mid field, punt. but John Anderson dropped to one knee to take a low snap and we gave Washington the ball at like, our 38
last posession, chance for great comeback win, Leach rolls and flips a pass to Stan Edwards...a clean catch and run and he scores, but he juggles the ball and drops it onto the chest of a flat on the ground linebacker, who gets credit for a game saving interception.
ugh. feeling sick again.
