Father-Son Michigan Football Legacies?
Interesting conversation at the work today. Family legacies at Michigan. This topic mainly came up when I was talking about Johnny Wangs son walking on this season.
Anyone have a list of legacies at Michigan? So far I've come up with off the top of my head-
- Marty Huff/Ben Huff
- Forest Evashevski/Forest Jr. and James Evashevski
- Fielding H. Yost (HC)/Fielding Yost, Jr.
- Butch Woolfolk/Troy Woolfolk
- Stan Edwards/Braylon Edwards
- Don Dufek/Don Jr. and Bill Dufek
-
Mike Boren/
Justin Boren - Jim Mandich/Mike Mandich
Wangler's
Edit: haha. My dumbass completely missed you mentioning the Wangler's in the OP. I'll take my lashings.
Jordan and Lou Kovacs
I like the way you think though.
Lou and Jordan.
Tony and Allen.
Speaking of Allen Gant, does he even exist on the depth chart? I feel like he has not been mentioned once since his hello post....
The Gant family: Tony ('82-86) and Allen ('12-present)
edit: beaten to the punch by Crowpuppy - that's what I get for taking the time to look up Tony's years at U-M.
Also: Robert J. Brown (Center, '23-25) and son Robert M. Brown (End, '61-62) - the only father/son captains in program history.
Robert J. And Robert M. Brown, the only father son team captains, per Wikipedia.

Edit: for the record, butterfield's edit came after my original post. I guess he took much time to look up the years. ;)
Years AND Robert M.'s postiion, lol. Complete list of M Lettermen here - I'm way too tired to look through it for additional pairs at the moment: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/mich/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/2011-12/misc_non_event/fbl-all-time-letterwinners.pdf
Lloyd and Jason, Mo and Andy, Jack and Jim, even Bill and Nick if you are counting coaches.
Also Fred and Jeremy.
Yeah, they're like the Griffey's of Michigan but faster, stronger, and with better hands.......and they play football.
Mike, Doug and Curt
Lloyd and Jason, Mo and Andy, Jack and Jim, even Bill and Nick if you are counting coaches.
Add Fred and Jeremy to your list.
David and Bo Dever
Tyrone2 to that list.
Tyrone Wheatley and Tyrone Wheatley, Jr.
/Comments from the future.
This is the most redundant post thread I've ever seen and I like it.
but people are repeating stuff all over the place.
Don't forget Fred and Jeremy!
Bill (1928) and Jim (1955-7) Orwig. Jim Orwig was the team captain in 1957. Bill Orwig also played on the basketball team from 1928 to 1930. Later, he was an assistant coach at Michigan from 1948 to 1953, after which he was long-time college administrator and served as the AD at Toledo, Nebraska, and Indiana (where he hired Bobby Knight).
Bill was Jim's uncle.
I stand corrected. Thank you for the info.

we can now add Paul and Jerry Goebel to an uncle/nephew list.
This morning
My son and grandson.
Tom and Lloyd?
Pants and Charlton?
John V. Ghindia ('47- '49)
son John R. Ghindia ('81- '84)
This is the NYT article which served as Pete Elliott's obituary. (HERE)
According to this, his sons David and Bruce both played for Michigan.
Willie Heston (1901-1904), Yost's great halfback, had two sons who played for Michigan as well, John (1931-33) and Willie Jr. (1929-31).
...2015 OT Jon Runyan, jr.($), so that's another possible legacy.
Bill (in the 50's) and John (in the 80's)
Joey and Paul Sarantos and their father (whose name I know not).
This is tangential to the specific topic, but I think still worth noting: Dan Dierdorf and his daughter Katie, who played basketball at Michigan.
Tom Hendricks Sr. and Tommy Hendricks Jr. safety 97 national championship!
His son walked on (forget his name) and was kicked off team after incident with hockey player.
Granted Jim Harbaugh's dad never played for Michigan, but Jack Harbaugh did coach under Bo.
Willard H. Hildebrand (1932-34) and Willard R. Hildebrand (1958-60)
Kurt Kampe Jr. (1946-47) and Kurt Kampe III (1974-75) (father and brother of Greg Kampe, long time basketballl coach at Oakland U.
Years indicated are varsity letters.
