Submitted by icefins26 on

According to Adam Friedman from Rivals we apprently received commitments from both Freddy Canteen (2014 WR) and also his teammate Brandon Watson (2014 CB).

EDIT:  Confirmed by Sam Webb.

#Michigan picked up commitments Freddy Canteen and Brandon Watson from Eastern Christian Academy

This is awesome news.  Welcome Freddy and Brandon.

And it never hurts to open up a pipeline with a talent producing school like theirs.

Watson is basically unranked by every service but Rivals, who ranked him as a 3-star.  Canteen is unranked to ESPN, a 3-star to Scout and a 4-star to Rivals.

My guess is these kids were only seen by Rivals...where/how?  Not sure.

Sam Webb has explicitly stated that the 4 WR thing is NOT happening barring some really odd circumstances. The coaches probably got confirmation from Scott's "camp" that he will be committing to Clemson at The Opening and decided to give Canteen the go ahead to commit.

Expect to see the recruitment of Brandon Watson to take off soon. The defensive back out of Elkton (Md.) Eastern Christian Academy recently camped at Michigan and came away with some good news.

I am by no means locked in on this like Magnus or others but I would find it hard to believe the coaches would not take a Westphal commitment.  I'm guessing that the coaches had a flier spot open for this class and Watson fit that.  They'll still target McDowell, Westphal, Hand, Smith, Jackson (longshot) in my opinion.

Michigan wants at least one safety in this class. They were recruiting Westphal for the slot corner position. I'm not sure if they'll start recruiting him for safety now or not. Regardless, Westphal has had his chances to commit, and he hasn't done so. I'm not a huge fan of Westphal's abilities, so I don't think it would be a huge loss of Michigan stopped recruiting him. I do think Michigan will still keep recruiting guys like Adoree' Jackson (though he'll go elsewhere), John Smith, and Montae Nicholson.
