Nice job. Demens made 2 really good plays on that series.

I want a celebration gif of Denard and Devin's handshake after the first TD.

If you can link me the video I'll gif it.
November 10th, 2012 at 11:03 PM ^
Did it look like, after they knocked their arms together, that Denard winced heavily and then couldn't move his arm much?
Let's not do that again boys....please.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:22 AM ^
At first, I thought the same thing - but seeing the replay, Denard reached down to catch the microphone/headset thingy that was knocked loose in the celebration. Not injury-related.
Anyway, if that kind of contact is going to make Denard wince in pain, we might as well right him off for the season. But again, I don't think that's what happened. I did see Wellman come over to him right after that though, maybe telling him to lay off the shoulder bumps for a while.

I didn't even realize how badly Jake Ryan had his guy and would've come in for the clean-up if Demens hadn't tackled so flawlessly. Dayumn.

This is why I sit on a couch and not stand on a sideline.
If you're going to hand off to the back plunging up the middle -- don't, uh, -- don't you need to account for the MIKE? I mean, like, assign a blocker to him? As in, I don't know, you know, make sure he's not COMING UNBLOCKED TO BLOW THE PLAY UP.
These football geniuses who get paid billions of dollars to design these high-efficiency offensive plays, they obviously know what they're doing, because I have no clue.
(No, really, I have no clue -- was that a schematic problem for the Cats, or, was Demens just outrageously blowing that up.)

Man, all I think of when I see that is a song by Metallica's called whiplash! "Slashing all around, whiplash!"

We had a really funky alignment on that down, with only three down linemen spread way out on the line. I think we confused Colter into checking into a run, as he probably thought we were dropping our LBs into coverage.

Can someone make one of Pat Fitzgerald running around and jumping like an idiot?

I love how he comes out with the little no-kneed waddle, then he stops, sets his feet and PEWWWWWW!!! Straight up, and his feet and arms shoot out like he's in a 1996 Toyota Corolla commercial.
I always kinda, if not liked the guy, at least I respected him. This is just asinine. What a douche nozzle.

And his vertical is weak....reminds me of James "Buddha" Edwards vertical leap.

wouldn't celebrate that enthusiastically/prepubescently had their team just won the ncg
November 10th, 2012 at 11:25 PM ^
To be fair to Fitzgerald, he was doing it sarcastically because he felt he was getting jobbed on the calls all game, in particular the Hawthorne holding on the kick return TD.
Also to be fair to everyone other than Fitzgerald, every penalty NW got was legit and he acted like much more of a whingey little bitch than I ever would've imagined a middle linebacker would.
I bet Griese took a little joy in the booth on that ending after the clips they showed during the game..
November 11th, 2012 at 12:57 AM ^
The Hawthorne holding flag on that KR TD was the least holdingest of the 4 holds I saw when Griese and Pasch spent the entire replay looking for the hold. The holds started 25 yards or so earlier than the flag Hawthorne drew.
Srsly.

I normally like Fitzgerald, but that was incredibly douche. It wasn't happiness with a great play as much as a personal foul penalty on his QB. His team didn't "do" anything right other can get hit out of bounds.

I had the same exact thought. I'd like to request a gif of Fitzgerald putting two fists to the sky like a jackass as if he won the game after the Beyer penalty.
1) The penalty was Beyer's fault and he shouldn't have put himself in the situation to be called for a late hit.
2) As a HC, how do you celebrate your QB getting hit THAT quickly?
3) I love Greg Mattison but I felt that today's defense was the least dicplined I'd seen all year.
November 10th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
That was one of the most inappropriate and obnoxious things I've ever seen a CFB coach do on the sidelines. He jumped like Phil Mickleson did when he rolled in the winning putt at the Masters, not because NW won, or even scored, but because Michigan got called for a weak ass penalty.
Act your age Pat.

Not defending Fitzgerald here, but that was hardly a "weak ass penalty." Beyer deserved that flag.
November 10th, 2012 at 11:15 PM ^
late hit out of bounds penalties only get called based on how violently people fall over. When they don't trip, no flag. If you are pushed into them and they trip over some stray chair, 15 yard penalty for you
November 10th, 2012 at 11:19 PM ^
I know, it was a good call, I just don't like Fitz. He was a very good player, and is a great coach -- but he's a d bag, and I wanted to emphasize his douche baggery.
Beyer was stupid, and I hope the coaches got all over him as he nearly cost his team the game due to a lack of discipline.

Or how about when he threw his hands in the air like his team just won the National Title after the late hit by Beyer. That did not sit well with me, I thought that was a bit immature.

Funny. This play happened right in front of me but I couldn't see it. All I saw was the D-line players. They completely blocked Demens from my view and only after hearing the crowd erupt did I know we came up with the stop.

Penn State fans are livid about this and rightfully so but we're the ones who're really getting screwed. If the referees in the last two Nebraska games were halfway good at their jobs, there would be a real chance that we'd be playing Iowa next week for a chance to clinch a trip to the championship game.
