A Day in the Life of Jim Harbaugh

Submitted by alum96 on

Since we've moved up our hopes for Jim Harbaugh from a scientifically accurate 0.49% a month ago to 4.32% today, thought I'd throw this story out from the 49ers website.  I wonder if they are trying to put a happier face on Jim Harbaugh the human. :)  It's a neat piece.  Actually reminds me of Steve Jobs in a way - not only due to the black turtleneck but the way many close to him view him as sort of a total hard ass - but an effective hard ass who is at the top of his profession.

Also this other story was posted 3 weeks ago here, but I glossed over it since our chances of landing Jim had not crossed over the 1% threshold yet but I re-read it yesterday and it made me want to run through a brick wall.  For Tigers fan this is a guy just like Justin Verlander who wants to destroy you even in a game of checkers.  The money quote, from a speech he gave the 49ers pre-season:

"I will be your alarm clock and wake you early," he said. "It can be a great temptation to rest on the field and let the opponent have a play without making him pay for every inch. I must hold his pain where it is. Mine does not matter. ... The punishment I inflict, his fatigue, and that he is up against something that he does not comprehend is everything."

Yeah maybe the pros might scoff at this stuff after 4-5 years but I can only imagine a bunch of 18-22 year olds hearing this attitude from their leader.

Ok back to our regularly scheduled - sigh - reality.

Never had anything against him but I never understood why he was such a board darling simply because he was young. I don't buy that he didn't know one bit and no matter how much we may want the guy gone, WD went too far. I think he thought his years of lovable scamp status would buy the cred he needed here but had no idea it would go so far as ESPN, etc. What he did borders on libel and hurt the credibility of the board, IMO. I've seen people banned for FAR less. Banning or long term negbombs are completely warranted. Still, I have nothing personal against him. I just think he did something "internet awful" (meaningless IRL outside of possible but unlikely lawsuit).

I have to say that the only time you'll see me wearing khakis when taking out the trash is when the idiot inside of me forgot to take it out to the curb in my pajama pants the evening before trash day actually occurs. Definitely more organized and routine-oriented than I am in any case - I do respect that.

which he applies to both his opponents and his players. As a coach he has succeeded wherever he has been.

That attitude scares Brandon because JH approach will be the same with him.

If the 49ers don't want him there are several NFL teams who would love to have him as their coach. I think at sometime down the road Jim will get sick of the NFL and will want to come coach at Michigan. This may be 6 to 10 years, so we need a good interim coach to fill in until Jim arrives!

To hear these words:

I'm pleased to introduce to you the next coach of the University of Michigan football program, Jim Harbaugh.......

I'm just guessing but I feel like this is the time we need to put a full court press on him, I think he would come here and stay. I just feel like he is slowly figuring out that college is where he is supposed to be, and the temptation to recreate the same program one of his idols did, will be too tempting.
