College Gameday/Early Games Open Thread
I was actually embarrassed for Michigan State's football team, that program, and the school because there is no place for that. He is not representing that university well when he goes out there...you don't have to mar your performance by doing something so stupid! That was a punk move and he didn't need to do that. They also all agreed that this and like incidents reflect poorly on the coach. They discussed how the coaches are more like friends than coaches to the players, that discipline is lacking, and that player's don't respect the coaches authority.

I love that sparty spends more time booing Desmond and yelling "Little Sister" then focusing on this week. Insert comment that proves Little Brother status.
October 22nd, 2011 at 10:57 AM ^
I agree, I feel like MSU is setting themselves up for a blowout because of the concern for the Gholston junk, and I realize this is the fans we are talking about, but Im sure the team has the same sense.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:05 AM ^
Not really sure why State fans like the "little sister" moniker so much.. It doesn't even make any sense. We beat them 67% of the times we've played, people actually care about who we are, and we're a better school (for good measure). After all, there's a reason they were so up in arms about the "little brother" comment - it hit so close to home. And the cheering at having felons for players? Much like their head coach, State fans manage to screw up one of their few chances at national attention.
Speaking of, how happy do you think he is that Russell Wilson wears 16? Him and Narduzzi could simply say "stick to the gameplan from last week guys, go for 16's head!"
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:28 AM ^
it is completely moronic and makes absolutely zero sense..."BIG sister" might make more sense (it would still be completely lame but at least you can make an argument there).... I love it when they try to argue with you and they say "oh at Michigan you're just paying for the name"... and Idk how many msu friends you all have, but I swear to god every single one of mine tells me they were in "the best program in the nation" for their major. I would like to call a huge internet 'bullshit'. if msu had as many "top notch programs" as my friends claim they do, maybe everyone there wouldn't be at a sixth-grade reading level.

Every girl that was a slut in my high school went to MSU and I am not just saying that because I hate MSU, it is a fact.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
I really wish I could create a Ven diagram reflecting this. Also, I wish I'd had this information when I visited EL while at U of M. Although I kind of just assumed this was the case with...most high schools in Michigan re: where their slutty females attended college.

When has MSU ever handled national exposure well? Last year they followed up nice wins against Wiscy and UM with a gack job to a mediocre Iowa team, and then were curb-stomped by Alabama in the bowl game after grousing about being passed over by OSU and Wiscy for BCS games. This year, they were stomped by ND, then beat UM. Now they have Wiscy coming to town, and I fully expect Wilson, Ball, etc. to just destroy them, probably ending the game by the 1st half. They'll then run through the rest of their schedule (which breaks down super-easy after Nebraska), and claim they should be playing in a better bowl game when they get passed over by PSU or UM. And then the cycle will continue.

Gotta love the class of Sparty fans to openly cheer when they show the clip of Tom twisting Denard's facemask. Unreal.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:35 AM ^
At the game, Sparty fans were actively yelling for someone to hurt Denard. Then, whenever he went down, multiple people would scream "Yeah! Stay down!" or "Yup, he's not coming back, that's what he gets," or similar.
I can understand rivalry and passion, but I could never hate a school/team so much that I'd want a player to get injured. These are college student athletes...

go Desmond my favorite sign is the free Gholston sign lol
October 22nd, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
That just proves how stupid they are. Don't they know their players name is Tom? What does Willy have to do with anything?
October 22nd, 2011 at 10:49 AM ^
watching. The night games are stacked though.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:14 AM ^
I'm looking forward to LSU/Auburn at 3:30
The noon games are pretty bad though...
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
The suspensions should keep it interesting, although I still think LSU wins.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
lsu is allways fun to watch MIles can make a laugher like the florida game intertaining and their punter is a boss for taunting on a touchdown run

guarantee all the sparty brahs have busta rhymes "break ya neck" on their pregame playlists today.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:11 AM ^
Enough to figure out how to create playlists.

upon further review, you're correct. it involves reading and writing.

I actually thought that one was pretty funny, one of the better ones for sure
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:02 AM ^
I saw one a little bit ago that said "Erin Andrews make me a sandwich". Yeah...cool sign sparty. Also, they seem to be proud of their thugs with all the signs about Gholston and the one saying "Plax was framed".
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:08 AM ^
Themselves on national television (again), why not let them?
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
And not to call out kettles and pots, but it's not like MSU people are known for being svelte themselves.
October 22nd, 2011 at 10:56 AM ^
Cool little piece on jerry kill. I hope he turns Minnesota into a competitive team. Sad he had to walk into the tire fire Brewster left him with when he had a dominate team in dekalb. ( Mac standards)

Anyone else feel like Manti Teo is one of the most over-rated players ever? I'm sick of hearing about him every Saturday.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:09 AM ^
He's good but not as good as all ND fans think he is.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
Denard runs by him all day. Navy & Air Force run the fullback right by him. He's just average. They act like he's a top 10 draft pick, especially on NBC. Teo is definitely on the forefront of Mike Mayock's yank bank.
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:50 PM ^
Teo is also bad in pass coverage.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:49 PM ^
I don't think he is a top-5 LB, but at the same time this ND defense doesn't do him any favors. I still think he is a better LB than we see on Saturdays because of the team he plays on. He'll be an average LB in the pros, but that's horible.

It was actually Charles Rogers. Plax took the fall cus Charlie already had too much heat on him.
October 22nd, 2011 at 4:05 PM ^
Genius. Advertise all the idiots and felons your team has produced in the past decade. They pretty much do our in-state recruiting for us.

Two ten-year-old kids holding a sign that says STFU.
Classy.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
Gamer for sure.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:13 AM ^
Anyone else see the Lou Holtz "Water Hazard" sign. I enjoyed it
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:17 AM ^
What is the sign that says Sparty heart's then there is a picture of a blonde guy below it. Looks to me like it says Sparty Loves Justin Bieber ... but I could be wrong
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:24 AM ^
I hope there's more trash flying around Spartan Stadium tonight.
And no, I'm not talking about Mr. Situation.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:32 AM ^
I hate bye weeks. That is all.
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:32 AM ^
Wish we could have got Sammy Watkins, that dude is a beast! Legit deep threat!
October 22nd, 2011 at 11:35 AM ^
Illinois Purdue at 12 may be good. Scouting two future opponents. I know everybody says that Purdue is an automatic win but I don't think they're as bad as Minnesota or Indiana. Not saying PSU is anything to write home about but they did give them a game last week 23-18. That being said, I imagine Hoke and Company will have our team ready.

It was pretty awesome, as far as I'm concerned. If you don't like the Corso headgear pick, you're not a real college football fan.
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:48 PM ^
"If you don't like the Corso headgear pick, you're not a real college football fan."
And, um, if you don't like Applebee's, you're not much into neighborhood restaurants.
I'd agree that the Corso headgear thing has "institution" status and should never be shelved, but it hasn't been really funny or entertaining for 10+ years. It's Andy Rooney, basically.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:06 PM ^
Nobody is as painful to watch as Andy Rooney
