Coach Prime called out publicly for tampering

Apparently Marshall's head coach called out Sanders for directly contacting a player that transferred to Marshall and was already on campus.

I not sure if I'm more surprised that Huff actually named Deion explicitly, or that Deion was dumb enough to apparently contact the player himself and not through some third party. Tampering is definitely rampant throughout CFB but, until now, I don't know of any coaches that have been willing to name names. UTSA's coach almost went scorched Earth in December, but then apparently backed away (article here).

Personally, I have mixed feelings about all of this. I'm glad that the portal exists so that players know they have options to transfer for more playing time and/or improve their draft stock by showing they can hang against tougher competition. And it's probably a good idea to know there is some interest before putting your name in for a transfer. At the same time, I feel bad for coaches at the lower levels that identify talent and do all the work to develop them only to have them poached away by a bigger program.

Anyway, two questions for y'all:
1. How long before coaches get fed up and really start naming names?
2. What are the chances that Coach Prime faces any punishment from the NCAA for this? Good thing he didn't buy the player a cheeseburger or else he'd be in really deep shit.

if nothing came of the Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban tiff then nothing will come of this either.

the NCAA doesn't want to get in the middle of this but would rather go all Sherlock Holmes for cheeseburgers.

This is exactly the type of hard-hitting question we should be investigating. I propose we form a committee for precisely this purpose.

As a starting point, I propose defining a sandwich as any food in which a topping, either sweet or savory, is placed on top of one slice of bread (open-faced) or between two slices of bread (close-faced). By that definition, a hamburger is definitely a sandwich.

If the slice has to come from a loaf, a hot dog bun would not be considered a slice of bread.

Therefore, a hot dog would not be a sandwich.

Wouldn't the extension of your argue mean a submarine is not a sandwich?  I argue that a hot dog isn't a sandwich but it needs to be defined in a way that allows a submarine to be a sandwich.

<ins> Random NCAA cynicism </ins>

<ins> Random anger about burger </ins>

<ins> Random "Maybe this will sort itself out in the next few years" </ins>

<ins> Random "Let's pull out of the NCAA as a power conference" </ins>

1) Nobody at a high level program will name names, because they don't want to be named.

2) No chance whatsoever that Prime will be 'punished'.  Unless you call a side-eye glance punishment.

I'm kinda glad he got called out, though, and I wish more names would be mentioned.  But I do believe it will remain almost as silent as the bag men have remained lo these many years...

The NCAA's pissed. The next time they hear Michigan's tampering with someone else's player, believe me, they're going to do something about it!

NCAA doesn't want to touch Deion over this. Famous, young black coach who made HBCU's relevant again and will go scorched earth is not who you want to mess with.

I'm pretty close to Marshall and I can tell you Huff doesn't give a shit about calling people out. Huntington loves this guy even though he won't be there for long. He handles things on and off the field the right way
