CC: Update from "Huge"
Take it FWIW since it is from "Huge" and his "sources" but here is the latest update coming out of Ann Arbor.
HUGE @Hugeshow · 10m10 minutes ago Here is the latest update from my sources in Ann Arbor on Jim Harbaugh to Michigan: That mega millions offer is... http://fb.me/3GL573gVaDecember 18th, 2014 at 11:00 AM ^
Huge is pure blather.

LoL I agree but since we are all starved for the most up to date rumors and news on the situation I figured I mine as well throw it up.

reasons why Harbaugh would want it leaked are far more compelling than any reasons Michigan would want it leaked. I don't think us knowing about it before it is actually happening.gif is a good thing.
Screw this, if Harbaugh turns us down just offer Saban at 10 million per. Not really that much difference at this point.
Or let's just hire Spurrier. The guy is hilarious.

That mega millions offer is on the table.
Harbaugh has not said yes to it.
The leak of reported money didn't come from the Michigan side, more than likely Harbaugh's agent. Money getting out to the masses isn't what Michigan wanted.
The offer getting out has Michigan concerned about Harbaugh taking the job. There has been no face to face meeting with Jim Hackett. The offer was done via his agent. The first face to face meeting happens December 23rd. Harbaugh will have to make a decision quickly from that point, to at the latest after the Niners last game.
Bob Stoops is the top target if Harbaugh stays in the NFL.
Les Miles isn't in the mix at all.
December 18th, 2014 at 11:07 AM ^
No face to face with hackett yet. That happens on 12/23.
Harbaugh will have to make a quick decision.
Stoops is plan b, not miles.

lol Huge.

"The leak didn't come from Michigan. Most likely Harbaugh's agent."
Translation: I haven't got a clue. Here's my guess.
December 18th, 2014 at 1:32 PM ^
reason. And both sides in this negoiation have reasons to want it made public.
I can understand why Michigan might want to downplay the dollar figure, but the offer had to be strong and had to demonstrate a vital offer, which this clearly does.
The report also sort of suggests why Harbaugh's agent would be quoted by one NFL insider as suggesting this was a second offer and that his client rebuffed Michigan, because that implies Michigan is also serious and has been working backchannels for sometime.
The Huge show is not getting this from Harbaug's end. If you want to know who is leaking something, you have to understand who is doing what and how it's being reported. And Michigan is making all the moves. Harbaugh is in decision mode at this point. There won't be anymore leaks from his end until an announcement is made. Michigan will leak if the answer is positive.
Putting a deadline on a decision benefits whom? Michigan. It puts all the other players on notice what it expects and in what timeframe.
Naming Stoops as a second choice is pure bullshit at this point. But of course, this just opened up a new line of intrigue. And by the way, Sam Webb is hosting the Huge Show today and talking to a radio station in New York. So, there's that.

I can only assume that there are confidentialily provisions that go along with these kinds of offers, in which case it would be a breach of confidentiality on the agent's part if he did it without Harbaugh's permission. But maybe the agent-client relationship is different from the attorney-client relationship....
December 18th, 2014 at 11:12 AM ^
December 18th, 2014 at 12:27 PM ^
True, but the duties (haha) are usually different when the relationship is agent-client versus attorney-client.
Specifically, in agent-client relationships there isn't an inherent, automatically vesting duty of confidentiality, unless the formal agreement between agent and client creates it.

An agency that routinely pissed off important clients by leaking contract info against the clients' interests wouldn't have important clients.

Shut up Huge.
December 18th, 2014 at 11:08 AM ^
Huge doesn't know anything. He's basically been stealing material from Henson and Jeff Moss and calling it "his sources". Guy is a clown.

For those who can't open facebook in their office:
The leaked amount didn't come from Michigan - likely came Harbaugh's agent.
The leak has Michigan "concerned" about Harbaugh taking the job.
No face to face meeting with Jim Hackett - offer went through Harbaugh's agent.
There is allegedly a meeting scheduled for 12/23.
Following that meeting, Harbaugh will have to decide "at the latest after the Niners last game."
"Bob Stoops is the top target if Harbaugh stays in the NFL."
"Les Miles isn't in the mix at all."
December 18th, 2014 at 11:17 AM ^
could see why Michigan would not want those numbers reported. If he doesn't take it and we offer the other guy like 3.5 per year it will be an offer and an insult at the same time. It really could be problematic if Harbaugh turns us down. It is seriously an "are you kidding me" type of offer. I don't know if the offer is a positive thing because "it's happenning" or a bad thing because "man, Michigan is deperate."
December 18th, 2014 at 11:24 AM ^
$8M per year signals that U-M isn't messing around. We're not interested in also-rans. We want winning coaches who have proven themselves at the highest levels. That much money will attract many agents to contact Jim Hackett, and have probably begun to do so as soon as the offer became public knowledge.
December 18th, 2014 at 11:11 AM ^
The identiy of his agent? Just curious..........some good guys out there and also some agents that are generally assholes.
December 18th, 2014 at 11:32 AM ^
Harbaugh's agent is David Dunn - though he has used two agents in the past - one for pro and one for college. Dunn is the pro-related agent.

I actually think it makes the Michigan job more appealing because it lets whatever coach eventually takes the job know that the school means business and will support the program with major $$$.
December 18th, 2014 at 11:21 AM ^
but that other coach is not going to get anywhere near that kind of money. I don't think that other college coaches are really as enamored with Harbaugh as Michigan is, and if they are made an offer that clearly identifies them as less than it gives them a reason not to come. College coaches have egos, I don't know if I see Dan Mullen being super excited about accepting an offer of about 1/2 what Harbaugh is being offered. Risky.
December 18th, 2014 at 11:28 AM ^
December 18th, 2014 at 11:37 AM ^
but then aren't we doing the same thing that we did with Hoke except with a different class of coaches, like we are paying the coach based on how "important" the job is as opposed to what they are worth? UCLA is cute and Mississippi State was certainly impressive this year, but are either 6 million worth of impressive, especially considering that Mullen has not demonstrated any longevity at this point. I guess Stoops at 6 would be on fringe of reasonable.
December 18th, 2014 at 12:49 PM ^
Are they going to stay at their current job for 1/4 of what Harbaugh was offered because they are insulted by being offered only 1/2 of wht Harbaugh was offered.. If so they were not smart enough to be our coach anyway.
December 18th, 2014 at 1:06 PM ^
It is a risky move if true. One thing that another poster mentioned in a different thread is that UM can use performance based pay for the other coaches. (National Championship winning coaches aside) Look at what JH has been able to do (SB loss, but still SB, and 3 straight NFC championship games). Aside from Miles and Stoops, (who may not be on the table) which other plan B coaches could show a resume that warrants that money?

sounds like we have a conflict brewing. Solution, Thunderdome. HUGE-BACON goes in, only ones comes out. Now that I think of it, that could be the description of this death match, or just the normal digestive process of eating huge bacon.

It's a safe bet that an NFL coach will be awake - and at the office - at 8:00 a.m. during game week.
December 18th, 2014 at 11:15 AM ^
Why would the agent feel the need to have national media report on it? I would imagine that this information could be passed to other suitors (Raiders, Jets, Dolphins). Hell, Stephen Ross probably co-signed the offer so it's not like the fish don't know about it.
While I don't think that JH is as enamored with UM as others, I do think that by releasing the details of the offer makes it way more annoying to the school and fanbase than he really wants/
