CC- "Hoke rumor"
I searched a few pages in and didn't find anything. I am NOT in any way a fan of the idea of having Brady Hoke as a potential replacement to RR. RR has a way better career track record. But I thought I should share this.
It's widely known that San Diego State coach Brady Hoke made officials aware when he was hired that his dream job would be in Ann Arbor. And Austin American-Statesman columnist Kirk Bohls call it a "crazy" prediction, but he says Hoke is simply waiting to take the job after opting not to speak with Pitt about it's opening."

FA Edit: Editing to not have full copy/paste. Copy/Paste is bad, especially paid content. We prefer you summarize content in your own words. I went to try it, but it was just a rehash of several Hoke things in the past without any new, original, or concrete things. I read this and I see overstating recruiting hurting and blatantly quoted "crazy" prediction. For more on Hoke, might I suggest this thread. /FA-edit

Bad decision by Hoke, jobs never going to be offered to him.
December 21st, 2010 at 8:11 AM ^
Not too bad of a decision really considering they just gave him a raise. He is probably making more there than he would at Pitt and I bet he is not freezing his ass off right now. So why not stay on the west coast and just wait it out to see if your dream job opens up? It may never be available but if he keeps winning Hoke can do way better than Pitt.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:02 AM ^
He turned down Pitt? That would be like saying you're going to turn down every woman you meet until Scarlet Johansson asks you out and ONLY Scarlet Johansson.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:25 AM ^
I love Scarlet Johansson....
December 21st, 2010 at 9:41 AM ^
And She loves you..

before Scarlet.

If I am ever confronted with this difficult decision, I will know that I did something right in my life plan.
December 21st, 2010 at 10:24 AM ^
So, I am let's say a "vendor" to a company that had significant interactions with Scarlet in 2010 -- she was shooting a big-name movie on their location for the better part of two or three weeks. I have a well-positioned buddy at the company who was around the set constantly. Reportedly -- let's all sigh in harmony -- she is not only the 10X hotter in person, but she is way way way sweet and personable and not at all a diva.
Mickey Rourke (sp?) hung out with the machinists, smoking cigs. Not that that gives away the movie at all...
December 21st, 2010 at 12:57 PM ^
...some obscure movie nobody has really ever heard of.

...you're right about Hoke never being offered the job. But never is a strong word. Hoke may be a candidate down the road, but in 2011, it is either going to be RR or JH.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:51 AM ^
I surely hope not... I am sick of hearing radio heads spewing that Hoke is a 'done deal' and DB is just waiting til the bowl game to announce
December 21st, 2010 at 8:06 AM ^
Never say never. As soon as Hoke can dominate at the lower levels of BCS football he might get offered, but he might die before then....
December 21st, 2010 at 8:09 AM ^
Hoke might be a candidate down the road a few years, but I really, really, really doubt he's under consideration right now.
December 21st, 2010 at 8:10 AM ^
Please no. Hoke would, in my mind, ensure at least a couple more years of agony and painful transition.
Also, doesn't this blog frown upon copying and pasting pay site info?
December 21st, 2010 at 8:18 AM ^
i.e. if you indicate you really want the job, there is no way you get it (like D. Trump for Augusta)
December 21st, 2010 at 8:22 AM ^
Any chance Hoke is the next DC?
December 21st, 2010 at 8:43 AM ^
good talk, see you out there.
December 21st, 2010 at 8:51 AM ^
The dude's already a head coach, and he's made it known that he wants to be the head coach AT MICHIGAN. Do you really think they're going to bring him in to be the defensive coordinator, looking over Rodriguez's (or Harbaugh's) shoulder the entire time?
Let's think about this one...
December 21st, 2010 at 9:29 AM ^
Thinking makes my head hurt. I like to have my information served up on a silver platter.
December 21st, 2010 at 10:45 AM ^
I don't think there is need to worry on this one. The French man, the French.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:48 AM ^
I can see your point - but, at the same time, while being HC at Michigan may be Hoke's dream job, being DC might be pretty high on his list, as well.
The question is what is a "better" job? Being HC at a nothing school or being DC at Michigan? Arguments can be made for either side.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:54 AM ^
Even if Hoke would accept a "demotion" to be defensive coordinator at Michigan, they're not going to undermine Rodriguez - who has already been undermined enough - by putting someone on his staff that has fairly openly lobbied for the HC job.
Do you think the New York Giants would hire Bill Cowher to be the defensive coordinator, when Cowher has already stated that the #1 job on his wish list would be head coach of the Giants?
December 21st, 2010 at 10:01 AM ^
I see the point - and you are probably right. Which is a shame, because Hoke would be a damn good DC. And, with such a high-level position (DC), with his former ties to M, he could bridge the gap between the RR supporters and those begging for a Michigan Man.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:53 AM ^
than I am so I was wondering if you could answer this for me:
Is it out of the relm of possibility for a guy who is a HC at a small university to take a step backwards and join his dream team as a DC with the hope that he would be next in line for the HC job should it become available?
I am just thinking in terms of what I would do under the circumstances and if the pay was similar, I would have to say I would be interested if I was given the choice. Of course, I am not a FB coach though. So has something like that ever happened or do coaches never do things like that.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:58 AM ^
It's rare that coaches like to cede control when they've been successful as head coach. You'll see some "failed" head coaches move back to being a coordinator, of course. And once in awhile, you'll see head coaches from D-II or D-III schools move up to coordinators at a higher level.
But I can't think of an example where a successful head coach at an FBS school has willingly accepted a coordinator position at another FBS school. I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but I'm pretty sure it would be a rare occurrence.
December 21st, 2010 at 10:00 AM ^

Sometimes, those "failed" head coaches move to coordinator and become failed coordinators, as well.

they work out pretty well. Guy named Moeller did okay at a certain University until his off-field issues sabotaged his tenure. And, if my memory isn't failing, wasn't his successor another coordinator who won a Natinal Championship.
December 21st, 2010 at 10:03 AM ^
Makes sense.
December 21st, 2010 at 10:08 AM ^
Wow, quit messing with us Yarmouth, can't be a legit post.
December 21st, 2010 at 8:26 AM ^
so why the painful transition? Reality is his team won 8 games with one against a team with a winning record, Air Force. The other 7 wins were against teams that combined were 44 games under the break even point. He did have some competitive games against good team that were probably looking past SDSU.
This would be a major downgrade in coaching and would make me lose all faith in DB.

It's a paid Insider content so I'll just copy and paste.
Uhhhh, that's not how we do things here.
December 21st, 2010 at 8:35 AM ^
the folks at The Worldwide Leader In Sports would appreciate that. But... it is kinda their fault....the stupid "rumor mill" shouldn't be insider content....it even says right on the description that they pull from mostly local sources, and often I have read the local "rumors" on detnews already.
December 21st, 2010 at 8:47 AM ^
ago so I could read all of the rumor central articles. All they do is take content from local papers and charge you for it. None of the "rumors" are from there contributors.

Not sure I have the standard protocol down. If someone can tell me exactly what change to make, I'll do it, though I am going to be away from the computer for several hours, starting shortly.

I second. Best facepalm image I've seen.
For especially severe cases, may I suggest video?

Well it's a good thing that Austin, TX is keeping up with the UM coaching situation.
December 21st, 2010 at 12:06 PM ^
Exactly why the hell should we care what a Texas newspaper says about a coach in San Diego wanting to go to Ann Arbor.
December 21st, 2010 at 9:50 AM ^
That is EXACTLY what happened to me when I tried to get out of bed this morning.
December 21st, 2010 at 4:19 PM ^
Your bed is a small dish?
December 21st, 2010 at 8:36 AM ^
I guess if holding onto some glimmer of faint hope makes Hoke happy then so be it. Seriously though, if Brandon hires him, both of them would be tarred and feathered, and then run out of AA.

to determine whether you are a candidate for the head coaching position at MIchigan:
a) If your name is Rich Rodriguez, you are a potential head coach for Michigan in 2011.
b) If your name is not Rich Rodriguez, but your name is Jim Harbaugh, you are a potential head coach for Michigan in 2011.
c) If your name is not Rich Rodriguez, and your name is not Jim Harbaugh, we are sorry to inform you that you are not a potential head coach for Michigan in 2011.

Quick test:
a) If your user name is "Blue in South Bend", you are a stud contributor.
b) If you have a photo of a dog in maize and blue as your avatar, you are a stud contributor.
c) If your name is not "Blue in South Bend", or your avatar is not a dog in maize and blue, you may still be a stud contributor, but chances are, you'll lose a "mine is bigger than yours" contest.
