Big Time College Football Violations Imminent for Top 10-12 Program?
So I know there have been some posts here about this in the past and I know its been buzzing on various message boards for some time.
However, I heard that Colin Cowherd was talking on his show today that its very close to coming out and involves a non-USC, non-Auburn top 10-12 program.
I don't know exactly what that means, but whatever.
Did anyone out there actually hear the show?
Anyone have any guesses or info on who it may be?
I have heard rumblings of Oregon but I'm not so sure.
Anyways, could be an interesting off season for someone.
EDIT: Just to clarify, the rumblings I heard about Oregon were exactly that, rumblings. Multiple people on message boards mentioned them, but no evidence was provided.
... were hypothesizing ND. If the new gossip is correct (top 10-12 team), that eliminates them from the mix. Big Ten teams still around -- Wisconsin, MSU, and OSU if we are talking last year. OSU (and maybe Wisconsin) if we are talking perenially.
wondered what that loud noise was a few minutes ago, now I understand
You can't be giving away absolution all willy-nilly to any five star that comes for a visit and not expect some sort of sanctions, can you?
Not just any 5 star they have to commit first
Perennially... what if it's US again! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
I know you are kidding, but I would be lying if I said that the thought didn't cross my mind.
went through our program with a fine tooth comb. If there was ANYTHING to uncover, they uncovered it.
For the same shitbag practice violations we got ...?
and more?
If it was Oregon the irony would be great.
During the national championship I remember alot of people were rooting for Oregon because they were the 'clean' program. And for them to possible get busted before Auburn would be very unexpected.
They're both caught, the MNC game is voided, TCU is the new MNC.
Inception.
and I'm pretty sure the South would try to secede again (minus the DFW metroplex obvs).
It is just funny because a few of my friends were heavily rooting for Oregon only because they were 'clean' and now that rational may be kaput.
Here is some crow and here is some egg. The crow goes in your mouth and the egg goes on your face.
we were rooting for Oregon because we hate the SEC, Gene Chizik is Kiffin without the big mouth, Cam Newton's a mercenary, and Cecil Newton punked the NCAA.
Oregon had Phil Knight pay for their entire football facilities and equipment. Then they may have had boosters pay for the players who use them. Paying for players sounds very SECish to me.
Are you f*cking kidding me?
1.) Phil Knight is allowed to donate money to an athletic program. Anyone is.
2.) Boosters might have payed the players? Total speculation, and none of it is based on more than if I said that boosters at UL-Lafayette had paid players.
Hasn't Oregon put themselves higher than a perennial top 10-12 program anyway? I'd say, based on the past few years the argument could be made.
Phil Knight may donate a gross amount of money to Oregon athletics, but I don't think he's ever given any reason to believe that he operates outside of the rules.
I doubt that it's Oregon.
I don't know if I would put Oregon at a top 10-12 program yet. They very well might get there, but I'd say the top dozen are all the usual suspects.
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, USC, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Miami...obviously a subjective list, but I don't know if Oregon is up there yet.
We may have to agree to disagree. Admittedly, I'm not sure how many years it takes to establish a program at a particular level. After the past 3 years, is Michigan no longer a top 10-12 program? After the past 3 years, is Oregon now a top 10 program? I'm not sure. I'd probably say that (maybe having earned a benefit of the doubt) it would take longer to lose the top 10 designation than it would take to earn the top 10 designation. I would feel comfortable not including Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Miami in the top 10-12 programs, though. Over the past 20-30 years are they top 10-12? Yes. However, for the purposes of this discussion, I don't think they apply.
Obviously, this is all guessing, at this point. I'm just as curious as everyone else to see what SI will have to report.
I'm fairly certain that you're just talking out of your ass.
Even though ND has been returning to glory for decades, they're still a top 10 program. It takes a hell of a lot longer than 3 years to remove Michigan from top 10 status. It would take Oregon another decade to be considered top 10.
LOL! Maybe I was, but I was asking the question: how long does it take a program to fall out. ND is just different, man. That's a different deal. If any other program went through what they have the past 15 years, they'd be long gone. My question about Michigan was rhetorical. It's still a top ten program.
Nebraska, ND, and Miami are all historical powerhouses. They have similar prestige to Michigan and I would argue that is the deciding factor on a top ten or twelve program.
Rome was a powerhouse too. As were the Germans in WWII. Nebraska, ND and Miami are middle of the pack on a good year. Michigan is top 25 on a good year.
"Historical Powerhouse" = Teams that were good 10-20 years ago but now suck.
Try harder the next time you join up to troll.
BOOOOM! That. just. HAPPENED.
Plus it's really fun. Occasionally you get to rack your brains and think, "How exactly did Michigan's admissions apparatus handle the Demar Dorsey situation?" and then type it all out. I love little exercises like that.
Historical powerhouse- a team that has historically been competing at a powerhouse level.
Hmm...Michigan, 884 wins, .735 all-time, 11 MNC's.
ND, 845 wins, .733 and 11 MNC's.
Nebraska, 837 wins, .702 and 5 MNC's.
Miami 568 wins, .638 and 5 MNC's.
I'm inclined to agree with my friend BlueDragon that you are, in fact, a troll. Since you are trolling, congratulations on getting me to offer a serious reply. Please, if you really aren't a troll, explain what those 2,000+ wins and 30+ (claimed) MNC's mean, if not powerhouse status.

That's a nicely-organized chart.
Notre Dame (IN); that one is different from Notre Dame University of Ohio, isn't it? The one in northern Indiana is really "Notre Dame du Lac" if memory serves me.
But then there is University of Notre Dame Australia, and the other Australian Notre Dame College in Shepparton, Victoria. There's Notre Dame College of Dharka, Bangladesh. And Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Saskatchewan. Haiti has a University of Notre Dame. There's a Notre Dame in Kyoto, Japan, and another in Okayama. There is a Notre Dame University-Louaize in Lebanon. There are four Notre Dames in the Phillipines, and no fewer than five Notre Dames in the U.S., from New York to California. Including the fightin' Notre Dame Falcons of South Euclid, Ohio.
I'm guessing that they all total up all of their wins, and apply them all to the same corporate account. Right? Or not?
A coworker of mine is friends with Haloti Ngata. Said his family lived in one of the poorer spots in Salt Lake City. Also said that within 2 weeks of him signing with Oregon, his mother and his uncle were both driving around extremely new, extremely expensive cars. Take it for what it is worth, but I think if you looked closely at Oregon you might find a lot of that.
Oh yeah?
Agreed just about any college team > SEC. Any fan base that roots on an entire conference deserves pain.
You hit all the reasons why I was rooting for Oregon.
Side Note:
People (Auburn fans) think that they are in the clear with the Cam Newton/Pay for Play investigation. They often point to how he was reinstated by the NCAA and how that closes the investigation. The fact is the NCAA rules eligibility based on the information provided by the school. I don't think NCAA is finished with Auburn just yet. Remember how long it took for them to do anything and investigate USC and Reggie Bush?
I didn't get it the first time, but now I do.
Thanks for clarifying.
Did he really say top 10-12? 12 seems like a fairly arbitrary cutoff, so does that make if it significant, i.e. a school that would be considered the 11th or 12th best program? Otherwise, wouldn't they say top 10 or top 15?
Of course, that's not very helpful since there would be so much debate about who is at the bottom of the top 10 and those just outside of it. All that being said, I'll go out on a limb and guess Arkansas who finished the year at 12 in both major polls.
"Program" usually implies long-term, not one season.
Agree - I was listening and took it to mean top 10-12 program (long term).
The Texas media has vaguely noted some ongoing concerns about TCU: academics, disciplinary issues. If TCU is the team CC was talking about -- and I have no idea whether it is -- won't we be glad Gary Patterson isn't in Ann Arbor? Also, it might help explain why he wasn't on Brandon's short-list.
"Program" usually means a level established over time. However, if he were to say a top 10-12 team from last year, he wouldn't leave very much to the imagination.
What the Volunteers? They've been caught before, recently in both basketball and football. They grabbed Arnett from Saginaw and are in a couple other 2012 instate HS kids. SI linked an article today about Tennesse offering cash for S'cam Newton during his recruitment:
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Radio-host-says-a-tape-exists-that-implicates-Cam-Newton.html
Tennessee would seem to be a prime candidate as well. Although the Vols aren't currently a top-12 program, they are in the larger sense.
Plus, they already are in trouble. Kiffin and Pearl almost seemed to bait the NCAA, which has a bee in its bonnet about showboats. God knows what else those yahoos did down there. Wouldn't surprise (or displease) me in the least. I've hated Vols ever since Fulmer hosed us.
Highly doubtful. They received the Kiffin/Pearl notice of allegations last week. If there were other problems with the program, they would have been charged at the same time.
Interesting question for everyone out there...who do you want it to be?
I'm a bit uneasy about "rooting" for it to be anyone as recruiting violations could pop up anywhere. I will say this, if it was Alabama and they got hit hard, I would get a bottle of makers 46 to take to my Tide buddy's house. I would drink it with him but I would really be there to taste his sweet, sweet tears of infathomable sadness.
You sir, are a true, true friend. May we all be blessed with friends as generous as you. Schadenfrude with a payback. That's awesome.
