Big Ten Coaches Talk Anonymously About Conference Foes for 2017
Athlon Sports just put out their annual anonymous comments from coaches article.
Some interesting things including my personal favorite:
"They want to outwork you. That was the whole satellite camp thing last offseason. He wanted to send a message to the SEC and other schools that he will outwork you to make up for any advantage you might have over Michigan.

Ahhh yes. Love me some anonymous quotes.

that say I'm a man of honor and a demon in the sack.
I gave those quotes. No longer anonymous.
was hoping maybe it was my wife this time........not that I don't appreciate it

This is my favorite part of preseason magazines.

That first one appears to have come from Dantonio though.
poor recruiting, and the off-season they just went through, I'm not sure how anyone could say positive things about Sparty.

Those are brilliant.

This is just weird...
"Mike DeBord runs something that’s as appealing as Wilson’s offense when it comes to recruits. DeBord is so efficient as a coordinator. His offenses show so much confidence and great timing on film. It was a great hire for Allen."

That's almost like saying Greg Robinson runs a defense that's as appealing as Don Brown's....
Both Defenses are centered around big plays. The only difference is Robinson's gives them up, and Brown's creates them. Kind of the same thing though...

To play the other side of this, I suppose that it's possible that Debord is good at getting teams to execute the plays he designs and calls, but poor at selecting which plays to design. Kind of an inversion of Al Borges, whose occasional use of good concepts were undermined by his inability to train his players to execute those concepts at all (and who also didn't feel like changing a play after OSU called a time out specifically to counter it).
OTOH it might just be deliberate false-flag garbage. No way the offense is appealing to recruits.
To be fair, OSU didn't counter much we ran that day. Until it mattered. Nevermind.
I see Mike DeBord is taking advantage of the fact that they weren't attributing any of the quotes.
That's weapons-grade snark. Right?
This seems to explain why certain teams remain on the bottom, looking up...
Actually, that's the ONLY quote that sounds remotely like something Harbaugh might've said...

What are the odds that came from Iowa
I just spent a couple minutes looking up stats (S&P+, FEI) for the Tennessee and Indiana offenses last year. To his credit, it looks like DeBord's offense was decent last year. Again, this was not a deep dive, but I was very surprised by the numbers. As someone who has long been critical of certain old-school coaches, I have to give him credit.
We saw what DeBord was at least capable of in the Cap One Bowl victory over Florida. Where was that all year?
It could be that the bland, overly-conservative nature of his offense was forced on him by Lloyd.
Kirk's a lot more familiar with DeBord's work than the other coaches. He could also be going up against IU in recruiting fairly often. Harbaugh is inclined to say nice things about Michigan men, so that wouldn't be a surprise ether..

"They’re scouting opponents better than anyone in our league. They’re at Alabama’s level of prep and analysis, and as they’ve started to fit talent you’re seeing the effects. It’s hard to surprise them." That's my favorite.

It definitely is not something that has often been said about Michigan, since ummm, oh about the first game of the 2007 season.
Seriously? Pre-Harbaugh, Michigan was as predictable as can be. I can't remember past the late Schembechler years.
Indeed.
Until they didn't have superior talent and execution. Hence all those Rose Bowl losses against USC.
a coaching staff that also makes meaningful adjustments during a game, something I haven't seen here in a long time.

They left one out... "Mike D'Antonion is kind of a boring asshat. I had dinner with the guy and seriously considered slashing my wrists. What's with that douche canoe?" ~Unnamed B1G Heach Coach

HAHA, regarding MSU...
"Jim Harbaugh’s success will directly impact how MSU recovers and maneuvers from here on out. This is a different league than the one Dantonio started in.”
Got to love that.

“The Spartans are a team to watch for rival coaches. Maybe the team to watch. We all want to see what they’re going to do, how Mark Dantonio and his staff can come back after that season."
-Mark Dantonio

Could be Dantologne, but I took it differently...
sounds like a noun meaning the stench given off by D'antoni. For example, "I was sitting in a press conference next to Mork, but I had to move because his Dantologne was unbearable."

Athlon has an SEC version as well if you want to read about Florida. Summary: their defense loses a lot and the front 7 does not scare other coaches. Receivers are best position group.

Wow, most of the SEC appears to be a mess. It's one or two top teams and then a crapfest.
Take Alabama out of the SEC West and it's just another P5 division. It has completely imploded on itself.

"Everything Jim Harbaugh does is for a reason. The media falls for his stuff, but every time he’s out there in public he’s communicating to his team or to recruits, and maybe sometimes he’s sending a message to other coaches."
Sounds like he's in someone's head.
