Belmont Stakes: California Chrome for the Triple Crown
I don't know much about horse racing but I do know that the Triple Crown is a big deal and hasn't been done since '78 when Affirmed won with an 18 yr old jockey. California Chrome is currently +125 on 5dimes vs the field and the race is set to go off at 6:50pm est.
I use Google Chrome.
the Triple Crown. I don't know much about horse racing, but from what I've read, part of what makes winning this race so difficult is that it is a much longer track than the previous ones. It's kind of like asking a sprinter to run a much longer race than usual.
You're correct.
Kentucky Derby - 1-1/4 mile
Preakness - 1-3/16 mile
Belmont - 1.5 miles
Wow! That's worser than I thought. For some reason I was thinking the Belmont was only 1 1/2 miles.

Thanks for posting the actual track lengths. Do you or anybody on here have any money on this race?
I'm boxing Chrome, Ride On Curlin, Wicked Strong.
I haven't heard that and one would think that would be a big part of the narrative. Again, I don't know much about this sport but I do know that breeding is big business.
I would be shocked if California Chrome won.
Is this your first post? Welcome to the blog. Unless of course, this is your 3rd or 4th account, after getting caved under a different name, like so many people on here.
If any race is rigged, it would be the Preakness
Man, Bob Costas intro reminds me of the NBA on NBC. Good times.
Post time used to be 6:32. Might have been intentional.
But if I were to bet, I'd be going against the favorite and taking a horse that has shown the ability to make a late run from off the pace. Commanding Curve, maybe?
I will take...
Here we go
Is anyone rooting against this? I mean what a story - $10K horse by a bunch of outsiders. Someone tried to buy the horse off them for $6M pre Kentucky Derby - they said no. Lets do it!
My heart is beating fast... :)
DAMN!
so close
Well now I'm sad.
That's the most upset a running animal has made me in a long time.
Damn, I put a dollar on Commisioner to get my money back...so close!
He's right. In what other sport can you do that. If you don't run the Derby and the Preakness you shouldn't be eligible for the Belmont.
You can decide to skip events in any individual sport. Tennis, golf, etc. The sport doesn't exist to cater to this one guy who happens to have a fast horse one year. No one knew California Chrome would win the Preakness so to act like it was a big scheme to prevent the Triple Crown doesn't make any sense.
You can't skip the NFC playoffs and just decide you are just going to play in the Super Bowl.
You have to earn your way there. It should be the same for the Belmont.
LULZ....Chrome owner is a bitter dude right now!
"That was horse shit"
- Chrome's representative.
That old man didn't help himself out there. Not one bit.
His wife, "Hunny settle down you're embarassing us!"
"No I will not settle down!"
There's a time and a place to say that. That was neither. That was nothing more than sour grapes after his horse got beat.
It was said by numerous people before the race.
Name one that didn't have anything to gain.
Goddammit.
Winning horse's owner's moment in the spotlight ruined by
1. a politician wanting the spotlight
2. A trophy too heavy to hold
3. Bob Costas asking a question he refuses to answer.
1. Anyone else think horse racing is SOOO incredibly fixed?
2. They make a huge deal about the triple crown, but I'm in the who the hell cares camp. It's a totally made up contrived accomplishment. In horse racing no less!
Think about if they hyped an analogous thing in dog racing or horse and buggy racing? How ridiculous would that be? Yeah about as ridiculous as the horse racing version too.
