I do not like Warren and I think he's shmuck but even a blind squirrel finds a nut once and a while.

oh man if you would've spent 20 more seconds working on this it would've rhymed

This is just an Illini reporter asking him a question in a press conference, not an official ruling or anything. The decision was not being reconsidered. So it’s the Press just stirring the pot, pandering to their fans to get clicks
October 7th, 2021 at 11:59 AM ^
Because god knows Illini fans have no stopped talking about despite winning the B1G tourney and getting bounced by Loyola
October 7th, 2021 at 3:18 PM ^
they beat our boys, I would have been OK with them getting a CV share
October 7th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
Delaney never had a problem finding a nut *cue meme*
October 7th, 2021 at 10:43 AM ^
Suck it, Illinois. And no. This won't end their whining.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:28 AM ^
I always enjoy the whining because it makes no sense. "Things would've been different if Michigan had played their COVID-cancelled games versus......Penn State, Indiana, and Northwestern!!!"
Then the jump to "Well we're better than you. We beat you head to head" so I guess Maryland and Rutgers have a claim to the title too since they beat Illinois
Then it's even funnier because they lost to the true premier basketball program in Illinois in the tourney
Its all sour grapes and there's no basis where Illinois has any plausible claim to a Big Ten title. They love to bring up that Michigan finished 14-3 but perhaps Michigan doesn't lose the 2nd MSU game if they hadn't already clinched the Big Ten title. Cry more Illinois
October 7th, 2021 at 12:33 PM ^
I'm sure the 1989 Illini want to claim a share of the National Championship because they beat UM twice in the regular season. UM only beat them in the final four, so Illinois should share the title.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:43 PM ^
Careful there are some on here that may support that as well.
October 7th, 2021 at 1:39 PM ^
I hope you realize that was complete sarcasm.
October 8th, 2021 at 11:23 AM ^
I was being 100% serious. Not referring to you but Ive had battles before with people here saying Illinois was the better team. Makes my head hurt.
October 7th, 2021 at 1:30 PM ^
Head to head games in the season seems to throw people off more often than it should when they choose to ignore simple math.
Like back in 2010, when OSU, MSU and Wisconsin all tied for the conference title in football with 7-1 records. (This was before the conference title game). When OSU had to vacate their season, Sparty fans got all excited and said, "This means the outright conference title is ours because we beat Wisconsin head-to-head, right?"
No. OSU having to vacate their season does not magically erase the 35 point ass kicking that Iowa gave you. You'll always be co-champs. You'd know that if the conference titles came more often than every 50 years.
But it's more than Illinois got. Heh.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
Lol that whole article sounds like sour grapes.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:45 AM ^
If you ain't first, you're last.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:49 AM ^
Illinois basketball fans are the worst.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:01 PM ^
They got one taste of success and just don't know how to act. They're so annoying and pissed us off enough to basically create an unofficial rivalry that is still pretty onesided
October 7th, 2021 at 1:27 PM ^
Illinois has basketball fans? Swear to god I've never met one.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:50 AM ^
I just defer to the rules that the Illinois AD voted for.....which was the rules that gave us the championship. End of story.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
Indiana won the Big Ten East in 2020.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:42 AM ^
Not only once, but twice. The second time in the middle of the season. Sucks to have to face the consequences of your own choices.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:01 AM ^
I don't get it. Like why is Illinois complaining about this so much? You won the tournament, be happy with that banner, its a good thing! But you didn't win the regular season based on the mutually agreed upon rules before the season. What's the big deal? It just doesn't make any sense.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:17 AM ^
You might not remember, but their tournament didn't go so well. See what happened was they lost as a 1-seed in the round of 32 to an 8 seed. They didn't make it to the sweet sixteen or the elite eight unlike other teams did.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:27 AM ^
I think he's referring to the big 10 tournament
October 7th, 2021 at 11:34 AM ^
They like to imagine a scenario where Illinois at least shares a title if Michigan played all of their games. But that relies on Michigan losing 2 games from:
- Penn State, Indiana, or Northwestern
and - the 2nd MSU game we lost after already clinching the title
The odds Michigan goes 2-2 or worse against that schedule with the Big Ten title on the line is very, very, very low
October 7th, 2021 at 11:01 AM ^
sounds like a strongly worded letter is in order.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:02 AM ^
If Kevin Warren has trouble with the Champaign Torch & Pitchfork crew it's comforting to know that Michael Barrett could step right in and run the B1G without missing a beat.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:20 AM ^
Ladies and Gentlemen, without further ado I present to you the new commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, Michael Barrett.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:08 PM ^
Michael Barrett is the Johnny Sins of the football world with all these jobs he's got. A true jack of all trades.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:02 AM ^
did anyone bother to Warren that Illinois really, *really* wants to share the title with us, even though they didn't earn it? Doesn't that count for anything?
October 7th, 2021 at 11:09 AM ^
I was very surprised the Big Ten didn’t give Illinois a share of the title. They love screwing over Michigan. They absolutely live for it.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:14 AM ^
Last week's Eye On College Basketball podcast had a candid coaches question about whether teams should forfeit this season due to COVID issues. I don't have any issue of how Michigan handled things last year (other than not really explaining why the women could restart but the men couldn't on the same timeline) but it sounds like more than just Illinois were unhappy with how Michigan handled the whole situation (unclear if it was from not playing vs being difficult to reschedule or both).
October 7th, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
lol, no.
illinois hoops fans are, almost without exception, unrelenting whiny turds. i can't WAIT to hear the revisionist history once they (inevitably) kick underwood out the door because he's a colossal dick that the players all hate. oh, it's coming.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:40 AM ^
Illinois basketball tears fuel me
October 7th, 2021 at 11:43 AM ^
How many times has some team beaten the conference champ in the course of the regular season? Plenty. They'll always rue their other losses, the fact that they didn't play better. Tough nuts and sayonara.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:48 AM ^
Lol. After reviewing [math] again the Big Ten has determined that [math] is [math]. Illinois's repeal on grounds that [not math] are denied since they could not disprove [math].
October 7th, 2021 at 11:58 AM ^
But but but their strongly worded letter!!!
October 7th, 2021 at 12:09 PM ^
Illinois got ratio'd.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:57 AM ^
Why is this still even controversial?
October 7th, 2021 at 12:18 PM ^
In other news, Cindy Crawford stands by her 1984 decision to reject my prom invitation.
Gravity stands by its decision to not allow me to dunk a basketball.
And my wife stands by her decision that there will be no butt stuff.
October 7th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
So you are behind all this "overtaken ass" stuff? Or lack there of.
October 7th, 2021 at 1:47 PM ^
This was still being talked about behind the scenes??
Bunch of cry babies.
October 7th, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
Warren was kind to not to point out that the Illini AD voted, twice I believe, to maintain the rules Michigan won its title by. If I recall, the last vote was in late February, when the AD should have realized the potential situation. I’d have accepted it had the ADs voted to change the rules, and been at least sympathetic had the Illini AD been the lone vote to change it, but his complaint rings hollow when it’s clear he wanted the rule changed not out of fairness, but because it suddenly would benefit his team at the last minute.
October 7th, 2021 at 8:24 PM ^
Nice to know we are still living comfortably in Illinois’ head.
October 7th, 2021 at 8:56 PM ^
What a courageous decision.
