I always enjoy the whining because it makes no sense. "Things would've been different if Michigan had played their COVID-cancelled games versus......Penn State, Indiana, and Northwestern!!!"

Then the jump to "Well we're better than you. We beat you head to head" so I guess Maryland and Rutgers have a claim to the title too since they beat Illinois

Then it's even funnier because they lost to the true premier basketball program in Illinois in the tourney

Its all sour grapes and there's no basis where Illinois has any plausible claim to a Big Ten title. They love to bring up that Michigan finished 14-3 but perhaps Michigan doesn't lose the 2nd MSU game if they hadn't already clinched the Big Ten title. Cry more Illinois

Head to head games in the season seems to throw people off more often than it should when they choose to ignore simple math.

Like back in 2010, when OSU, MSU and Wisconsin all tied for the conference title in football with 7-1 records.  (This was before the conference title game).  When OSU had to vacate their season, Sparty fans got all excited and said, "This means the outright conference title is ours because we beat Wisconsin head-to-head, right?"

No.  OSU having to vacate their season does not magically erase the 35 point ass kicking that Iowa gave you.  You'll always be co-champs.  You'd know that if the conference titles came more often than every 50 years.

But it's more than Illinois got.  Heh.

I don't get it.  Like why is Illinois complaining about this so much?  You won the tournament, be happy with that banner, its a good thing!  But you didn't win the regular season based on the mutually agreed upon rules before the season.  What's the big deal?  It just doesn't make any sense.

They like to imagine a scenario where Illinois at least shares a title if Michigan played all of their games. But that relies on Michigan losing 2 games from:

  1. Penn State, Indiana, or Northwestern
    and
  2. the 2nd MSU game we lost after already clinching the title

The odds Michigan goes 2-2 or worse against that schedule with the Big Ten title on the line is very, very, very low

If Kevin Warren has trouble with the Champaign Torch & Pitchfork crew it's comforting to know that Michael Barrett could step right in and run the B1G without missing a beat.

Last week's Eye On College Basketball podcast had a candid coaches question about whether teams should forfeit this season due to COVID issues. I don't have any issue of how Michigan handled things last year (other than not really explaining why the women could restart but the men couldn't on the same timeline) but it sounds like more than just Illinois were unhappy with how Michigan handled the whole situation (unclear if it was from not playing vs being difficult to reschedule or both).

lol, no.

illinois hoops fans are, almost without exception, unrelenting whiny turds.  i can't WAIT to hear the revisionist history once they (inevitably) kick underwood out the door because he's a colossal dick that the players all hate.  oh, it's coming.

How many times has some team beaten the conference champ in the course of the regular season? Plenty. They'll always rue their other losses, the fact that they didn't play better. Tough nuts and sayonara.

Lol. After reviewing [math] again the Big Ten has determined that [math] is [math]. Illinois's repeal on grounds that [not math] are denied since they could not disprove [math].

In other news, Cindy Crawford stands by her 1984 decision to reject my prom invitation.

Gravity stands by its decision to not allow me to dunk a basketball.

And my wife stands by her decision that there will be no butt stuff.

Warren was kind to not to point out that the Illini AD voted, twice I believe, to maintain the rules Michigan won its title by. If I recall, the last vote was in late February, when the AD should have realized the potential situation. I’d have accepted it had the ADs voted to change the rules, and been at least sympathetic had the Illini AD been the lone vote to change it, but his complaint rings hollow when it’s clear he wanted the rule changed not out of fairness, but because it suddenly would benefit his team at the last minute.
