landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
Auburn Site Claims Derrick Green Is An Auburn Lean
Let's not make fun of this, because as we all know, anything is possible. This would suck if it turned out to be true and then we would all look like idiots for calling Auburn fans stupid.
Mike Farrell, who is the insider closest to Derrick Green, says that Auburn is a distant third behind Michigan and Tennessee. To put it in terms Auburn fans will understand, this is hogwash.
I think Florida St. will end up being a bigger issue than UT or Auburn will be in the end. FSU always seems to do well in the home stretch to signing day.
I haven't seen one interview where he even lists FSU in his top five. Miami yes, FSU no.
Farrell seems to reiterate his point again today, saying Michigan is on top and it's tough to see anyone else getting him.
I know we make fun of Farrell but the guy did predict Levenberry's destination.
It makes sense that he knew because they only speak with Farrell because Rivals has him ranked so high.
I think it's the other way around - they rank him so high because he speaks with Farrell so much.
It's the same reason that Levenberry is/was ranked so high by Rivals but everyone else thinks he's just pretty good.
Agreed, for two reasons:
1) Kids change their minds more often than they change their underwear.
2) Auburn boosters are infamous even by SEC standards.
Until signing day or he has signed, I won't believe anything! I don't know how to feel on this one, something is keeping him from just coming out with it. I can say it makes me a wee nervous about the situation.
Auburn can get whomever they really want to get!
Reminds me of the old Iraqi war minister who said they were currently crushing the American invaders.
I believe you're referring to the General formerly known as "Baghdad Bob".
He's since changed hair styles
an SEC website making some unsubstantiated claim. Until we hear words from Derrick Green to the contrary, we should still feel pretty good.
TideDamnRoll told me he's a UM lean. I trust him.
I've got a bad feeling about this...
Hey guys.... Derrick Green is a Toledo lean. Seriously!
There. Now there is a website claiming that Green is a Toledo lean. Let's see if the Auburn site starts to melt down.
Don't hate. That's the video that got me to enroll there.
Actually, I haven't been this embarrassed to be enrolled there since the "Worst Freethrow Attempt Ever" video.
Wow, that video kind of just kept going and going. I thought it would be done, and lo and behold, it just kept going.
"We'll fight like our ancestors"? Random.
I go to toledo...and yes we have the shittiest fight song ever.
They have a nice marmot.
But they sure can't roll.
The only thread I have ever created on this site was to relay that Jordan Diamond had eliminated Auburn and was down to M and Arkansas. That info came from a Brian Cook approved source who was helping Diamond personally with his recruiting. Turns out Diamond surprised everyone, including my source, and committed to Auburn days later. IIRC they also surprised by getting Kozan who was an M lean. These things happen.
I want to play and DESTROY Auburn.
I have three daughters, and following Michigan recruiting is the only approved non weekend manly activity I get.
Recruiting is a manly? AND an activity?
Michigan recruiting" at least qualifies as an activity.
A man with a wife and 3 kids (and I'm speaking from experience) gets little "me" time. If one chooses to use that little time to follow UM recruiting I will not judge.
My children and wife know my compulsion (addiction?) for following Michigan sports. At least they tolerate it. It is free (relatively) and while they would prefer I do something else, it is one little sliver of life I choose for myself. Thankfully.
great comment, I did laugh out loud, thanks.
I'll take what the kid said about Michigan having the lead over what a bunch of toothless ones from the ESS EEE SEE claim.
Maybe he had a sit down with Jordan Diamond's accounting professor....
Signing day can't come fast enough
on Nancy in the Sky with Diamonds (see what I did there?).
Table talk! Renege!
I mean it's perfectly possible that he goes to Auburn. But I've got to think that the Auburn info is off considering all the very recent positive comments about UM, and the fact that he stated multiple times UM is the leader and he knows where he's going. Plus he wouldn't want to crush the little kids dreams whose flag he signed with the other UM commits at the AA game, would he?
In this twitter account they added a blue "verification" check mark to the background to make themselves look official. Who ever runs this twitter account must be one sad/messed up individual.
And to think Green would choose Auburn is ridiculous. He had said that he does no want to play in a spread and nobody seems to be talking about Auburn as much as Michigan and Tenn.
that is soooo lame to do that. Tweeting at him as we speak to embarrass him...
DK finest to weigh in on this and give us the truth.........
twin brother BKFinest for all my recruiting info.
It depends on whether or not his dad needed money for a church expansion
Mean Fightin' Machine!
If recruiting is not safe for kids under 48" in height, how did Rich Rodriguez recruit his receiver corp?
to you, my friend. Pow!
You never really know what's going to happen in recruiting. That being said, in the complete absence of any corroborating information this looks like trolling for page clicks.
No idea if this is true or not, and won't know until Green says so.
That said, there is no fan base as delusional as Auburn.
Noter Dame? I mean they thought they could beat Alabama in NC.
Ive never really believed Green is coming here and won't believe until he signs on the dotted line. It just seems like he is always looking for reasons not to go to Michigan.
Since he hasn't committed anywhere is he also looking for reasons not to go to all those other places??
Auburn is actually more delusional than Notre Dame. Really...trust me.
That's all I needed to hear. I trust this guy because he told me to. No one who has ever used "trust me" has ever lied. It's a fact, trust me.
Alabama wins with a great O line and a great RB year in and year out. They also put RB's in the NFL in the first round and alot of that is that O line. They are full at RB. Any thoughts on who has pulled in a huge O line haul the last 2 years that needs a RB and also will have a highly touted QB coming in. Green comes here and in 3 years he is a NFL 1st rounder.
Until his name is on that dotted line, i wouldn't count any team out.
I know this is how recruiting goes and I'm not trying to censor what people post etc. But, the only information left to be heard for on this subject is who he commits to. There is really nothing more I want to hear about Green. We know he's interested, we know he's a good fit, we know he likes our coaches, we know we have a shot. Anything other than him giving his verbal somewhere or signing his LOI is only frustrating at this point.
If there is nothing more you want to hear about Green, don't click links that are very clearly going to include more speculation.
It's like watching a car crash. No one wants to see the damage, but it's hard not to look when you know it's there.
You just need to admit to yourself that you can't help it and click. You don't need to hold up the pretense for our sake, believe me. A click will set you free.
I know I will be downvoted to Siberia for this, but lets learn from what happened with Garnett and not assume that Green is a lock just because he named Michigan as a slight leader...
for thinking you get downvoted to Siberia.
Siberia may very well be harsher than Bolivia... it is winter time...
I know I'll get upvoted to, um, Like Bikal? for this, but let's learn from what happened with Ondre Pipkins and assume that we're in very good shape because Michigan is a slight leader.
That's not a good comparison. By this time last year, the only people who thought Michigan led for Garnett were Michigan homers. Everyone else was saying Stanford. (People were more confident on Garnett earlier in the process, but that petered out).
I pretty sure that Garnett stated that Michigan had a slight lead all the way until the end, he even mentioned afterwards that he seriously thought that he would end up at Michigan, but wanted for his family to attend all his home games... There was a minority who thought he would go to Stanford due to proximity, and better weather and academics.
Going into NSD, every analyst at both Scout and Rivals predicted him to go to Stanford. Unless your info was solely based on MGoBoard material, I'm not sure where you're getting it from.
I am getting it from Garnett who was quoted to say that Michigan had a slight lead... analysts on Rivals and Scout also predicted that Diamond would end up at Michigan, so lets not pump them up too much...
I didn't see him posing in pictures with Auburn recruits. Thats all I have to say about that.
Maybe the joke is on me, but you linked to a twitter feed from "Eagle Damn War".
Seems to me that someone we know is just stirring the pot...
ugh let's please stop talking about green until he actually commits somewhere. until he does that, there really is nothing else to say about him. we'll have a great recruiting class with or without him.
Yeah, besause that's how this "following recruiting" thing works. We don't talk about anyone until and unless they commit somewhere...
We've seen quite a few recruits from all over the country who were very unlikely to choose Auburn suddenly change their mind for no real reason what so ever. The bottom line is Auburn pays better (semi allegedly).
Someone wake me when its signing day, until that day ill be nervous about all are commits.
You will be nervous again at the end of the day in anticipation of 2014 recruits. It's a vicious cycle.
That EagleDamnWar guy doesn't seem very reputable, to be honest. I'll take the word of Green himself.
I've learned that the best source for unbiased information is not always a site that benefits from its homer readers.
I smell a Southern Ace Williams here.
DERRICK GREEN WILL BE A AUBURN TIGER I PROMISE
NOBODY TURNS DOWN AN OFFER FROM THE BEST FOOTBALL PROGRAM IN THE SOUTH
NICE TRY MICHIGAN BUT THIS KID IS ALL OURS
WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!
You created an account and have been waiting for this day patiently. Kudos.
Your not even the best football program in a 100 mile radius...
2) Troy State
3) Tie- Auburn, Alabama State
best program in the south? well, maybe, but i hear they got this program down in tuscaloosa that's supposed to be pretty good, too. their coach isn't too shabby from what i hear, either. how did auburn do against them this year? how about last year?
Yes, I want him to commit and turn out to be all-world.
It's just... watching his film, I was surprised he was considered the #1 RB.
To see if I was the only one, I googled Derrick Green Overrated, and what do you know... Magnus agrees with me on his site.
I talked a lot of shit about Magnus in the past, but I think his assessment of Green is spot on. Good call Mags.
What Magnus thinks after Green's senior year.
Well, Green's senior highlights are significantly more impressive than his junior highlights. He shows better vision and balance.
That being said, I still don't really understand why he's ranked as the #1 running back. The only way he actually performs like the #1 running back in this class is if he gets an outstanding offensive line, like the one at Alabama or the one Wisconsin has had for the last several years. I still prefer someone like Keith Ford or Altee Tenpenny.
Green would be the best RB in Michigan's class if he commits, though.
Because, ALTEE TENPENNY
Why doesn't he just turn in his last name and become Altee Dime?
Thanks for making me spit/laughingly on my phone!
My understanding is that rankings are based on potential, so things like size, speed, agility and vision are paramount... now whether we need a Barry Sanders type more than a Bo Jackson type is a different question.
You're right that rankings are based on overall potential. I just don't see his overall potential being higher than that of some other backs.
You also said he didn't have good hands. It appears he catches the ball pretty well these days. Speed, power, quick and decisive hitting holes, breaks tackles, and catches the ball well.....what more should the #1 running back have? Is he weak at picking up blitzes, or what?
I think he has an element of all those things, but being the #1 running back in the country is a pretty big deal. I'm also not convinced that he catches the ball well, because when I saw him in person, he was TERRIBLE at it. He may have improved or maybe he was just having the worst day of his life at catching the ball.
Besides, it's not necessarily about what he does but what other guys do. I just like other guys more. Just because I think he's maybe the #4 running back doesn't mean I think he's bad.
I'm glad to see that you've realized I'm not 100% bad.
EDIT: Here's the scouting report you're probably referencing:
Comparing Green's film with Smith's, it looked to me like Smith was the better back, if for no other reason than his tackle-breaking skills. I do understand, however, that the level of competition (I have no real idea who plays against better teams) they face may be a factor.
I'd be glad to have them both in maize and blue.
Green plays much harder competition in the Richmond area than Smith does at Warren Howland.
This is also the same source who stated Trey Johnson was going to recommit to Auburn. They kept that stance right up until he announced Ohio at the AA game. They were even tweeting it minutes before he committed to Ohio.
Hasn't even met the Auburn staff. To be fair he did say he is going to take an OV there to give the staff a fair chance. After the visit it would be fair to report him AB Auburn lean if things go well, but no way is he a lean when he had t met the staff, and he says he will commit where he feels most comfortable with the coach
He already took an OV there.
Btw, in this week's edition of his column Mind Of Mike, Farrell thinks it will take "something special" to beat Michigan for Green. I would say he has the best relationship with Green out of any analyst and is very tuned into his recruitment.
on another blog site, including Auburn fans, and they say they still believe he is a UM lean. He is being heavily pursued by the new Auburn coaching staff but in their opinion the coaching turnover may be too much to overcome. Not sure what is going on with these Auburn fans referenced in the OP.
A cheque for 180k will make you lean very easily...
I may have found the source for these rumors:
"I am friends with 4 star OL UGA commit Brandon Kublano. I saw him today at party where we watched the national championship. I knew he was in the Army All-American All-Star game, so I asked him if he talked to Derrick Green at all. He did, so I proceeded to ask him if he was going to Michigan or Auburn. He told me Green was going to Auburn and I trust his word."
Color me skeptical.
I dunno, that seems pretty legit to me...
Looks like Tennessee's passing game just walked out the door. I know Green has stated he knows where he's going so maybe this doesn't really matter, but I would think this would not bode well for Tennessee's chances.
