Assuming Hackett makes it "happen", is he officially JMFH?

Submitted by iawolve on
I don't think it can be overstated the job Jim Hackett has done for Michigan. He stepped into a open campus revolt against the previous AD, had to stabilize the fan base, fire the football coach and make an arguably program saving coaching hire who happens to be one of the hottest names in the NFL all in the time frame of a few months. I mean to say that I don't think you could find too many takers for that job description and he is on the verge of closing this out like a champ. Assuming it does happen, he is JMFH to me. I am sure he will follow this with a bang up AD hire and deserves a big thanks from the fan base when he steps down.

Does Gregg Henson become GMFH? I think MGoBlog owes him an apology when it comes to coaching searches... dude's been spot on since November going all in if this ends up happening.

Henson's far from a blind squirrel, and I think it's high past time the members of mgo chip in and send him a fruit basket or something. Since November he's been steadily pumping sunshine for the one positive thing to look forward Michigan football has had in a long time.

Henson's updates convinced me that Michigan could actually pull this off. I don't know why he gets such a bad rap to be honest.

When what he was saying started to gain some popularity with the blog, I believe the MGoBlog brass reached out to him to ascertain the reliablity of his statements/sources and they didn't pick up a good vibe from him. I think he might have even gotten into a little tiff with one of them during that vetting process, but I may be mistaken.

Past that, I haven't really seen much reason why what he says shouldn't deserve to be listened to on here.

The thing about nobody wanting the job is a myth. The last two coaching searches were screwed up. If we squashed the egos, opened our search to people who haven't coached at Michigan and stopped penny pinching on everything we wouldn't have been through hell the last 7 years. We finally have put these things to rest. better late than never.

It was messed up. If Rich Rod doesn't lose to Pitt he's still at West Virginia today. The lawsuits and all the hoopla had to have been a huge distraction to him that first year. It shouldn't have ever happened. BUT it did, and if it didn't then Les would probably be our coach and while Les is a pretty dang good coach we wouldn't be getting Harbaugh.

So hopefully after 5 or so years we're looking back and saying those 7 years of hell were worth it.

My sentence structure late at night may not be the best, but that was what I meant. RR would've left WVU in 2010 to replace Urban. Muschamp would be somewhere else. It's amazing how much of the college coaching landscape would be different had RR not lost to Pitt that day.

The reports of nobody wanting the job as long as David Brandon was the one doing the offering probably aren't a "myth."  David Brandon devalued the job when he fired Rich Rod.  He further devalued it when he began micromanaging the Hoke staff.

The job is seen as desirable again because David Brandon stepped down.  It is not undesirable anymore, but it certainly was when David Brandon sat in the AD seat.

...that Alabama asked RR to be their coach before they asked Saban.  Yes, it was a horrendous search, but at the time even the best search in the world couldn't have landed us a more acclaimed coach than Rodriguez.  We've gone through hell not b/c of penny pinching, but because of a sense of entitlement by some former players who seemed to have forgotten that it's about Michigan, not themselves.

Moreover, even if Hackett were around back in 2007, there's no way Les Miles gets the job.  Lloyd was just not going to allow that, imo.  It explains why (according to Three and Out) he called Rodriguez and lied about Michigan's interest.  Once RR was in place, it kept Miles out, and there was no longer a need for Lloyd to support RR.
