I’ll take a contrarian position. If he’s only considering us and Miami, I don’t think he’s hunting very hard for a MacDonalds bag. He could do a lot better on the open market. Seems like he’ll go the G-League route if bag is his motivation. So I’m saying we have a chance.

Its so lame to complain that we are second or third in this recruitment (and basketball recruiting in general) given how amazing Juwan has done with this class. Oh no we dont get Jalen Duren? How about a Mousa Diabete instead?

1) The G-League draft occurs before the G-League season begins.  This pay season it began in February in an Orlando bubble.  Next year it is scheduled to start in November, so there will be a draft in October or early November.

2) But that doesn’t even matter for Duren.  If he goes the G-League route, it will be as a member of the Ignite, which allows him to negotiate a good contract for himself and bypass the draft.

If you're a sure fire one-and-done, I would think the only possible reason you'd skip out on G league money is if you thought the exposure was so much better in college that you'll make up for that in sponsorships coming out of that one year. I would be surprised if that was the case, but no doubt you get way more opportunity to 'build your brand' in college

He'd be amazing to have on the team this year, but it's hard to imagine him signing up for a year in a crowded Dickinson / Diabate / Johns front court.

Would not move up his eligibility to this year, if that’s what you mean.  Reclassifying now makes him eligible for the 2022 draft rather than 2023.  He has to be done with high school for a year AND be at least 19 by December 31st of his rookie year.  He turns 19 in 2022, so he would not be eligible this year regardless of reclassifying.

I know that are folks that pay attention to some sports more than others, regardless of which sports you follow most closely.  When referencing recruiting I think it's a good idea to put the sport in the title, particularly if it's not football, which tends to be the defacto assumption..  I'm sure lots of people know who Jalen Duren is, but I'm sure there are plenty that do not.

I agree in general, but if you don't know who Jalen Duren is at this point, then that's your fault

I never said I didn't.  I get that many people probably know who he is as I said.  But, I'm sure there are people that don't follow recruiting for all sports.  IMO it's a better title to put it in rather than leave it out for those that don't know.

If you don’t know who the #1 recruit is in a sport, and that same recruit had his picture on the front page of MGoBlog for at least a day earlier this week, that’s on you.  It takes 3 seconds to Google and realize who he is.

Also, even if you didn’t know what sport, reclassifying is much more a basketball recruiting event than for other sports, so there were still clues in the title.

Lots of people follow bball recruiting only.  Lots of people follow FB recruiting only.  Lots of people follow both.  If you only follow FB recruiting you're left wondering who the heck that guy is and have to search it yourself.  A slight title adjustment would help out all those folks.  That is a fact.  Don't get your panties in a bunch because not everyone follows bball recruiting.

You didn’t say you didn’t, but we all know you didn’t, and that’s okay.  Making a baseless comment is just lame, though.

Do you really think every UM fan follows bball recruiting?  The majority of content on the board is for FB.  There are lots of people that follow FB recruiting, but don't follow bball recruiting.  Football pays the bills and keeps the lights on.  These are facts.  It is not baseless.  Including the sport in the title of a recruiting post prevents people from having to search it and improves the post.  This is constructive criticism.  Leaving one out and assuming everyone will know its bball will leave a good chunk of people wondering.  That makes your comment lame for not only ignoring the facts, but getting all pissy pants because you don't like it.

I think that anyone who goes on this blog at least once a week knows.  That’s not the issue, the issue is your smugness and holier than thou attitude toward the post, as if it somehow offended you.  You can always just scroll instead of.... doing what you did, which makes you seem presumptuous and offended that someone posted something you have no knowledge of.  Google is your friend.

5 star guys falling into random programs due to connections is more common than you would think.

Cade Cunningham, the consensus #1 guy last year wound up at OkSt due to his brother on staff. 2021 5 star Pat Baldwin Jr is committed to Milwaukee to play for his father. 5 star Michael Porter Jr enrolled at Missouri for the same reason.

When you're this highly touted, personal connections seem to be the deciding factor quite often, hence the Miami connection for Duran. They'll likely be drafted high wherever, so might as well pick a place with some familiar faces.
