Hello: Me
Sorry, my mind is still swimming from the whirlwind of this past week and I couldn't come up with a better title, but I figured I'd introduce myself.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with me, my name is Ace Anbender, and I've previously written at The Wolverine Blog, The Wolverine Magazine, and The Ace of Sports (I was quite the humble college freshman, I guess). I've been following football recruiting with more than a passing interest since high school, and while it has never been the main focus of my writing, I will be doing everything I can in the upcoming weeks and months to provide the expert analysis that you guys have enjoyed from the great work of Tim and TomVH, who both leave big shoes to fill.
I graduated from U-M with my bachelor's in history last December, after four-and-a-half years (including five, shall we say, interesting years in the student section) as a Wolverine. Though I was born in San Francisco, the undisputed greatest city in the world, I have lived in Ann Arbor since the age of five and started attending football games with my father during the 1994 season. I almost never made it here, as my first game in Michigan Stadium was supposed to be the Colorado game that season, but a serendipitous work trip kept my father from taking me and my mother sold the tickets - who knows what would've happened had I experienced my first soul-dong punch at such an impressionable age.
My favorite Wolverines of my lifetime - well, the part of my lifetime when I've been able to follow a football game - are Charles Woodson, Brandon Graham, Mike Hart, and Tim Biakabutuka, while my favorite games that I have been able to attend are '97 and '03 Ohio State, '07 Michigan State, '08 Wisconsin, '09 Notre Dame, and '10 UConn. I realize those games have a very recent flavor (a flavor which, I admit, had some bitter aftertaste), but I hope you understand that attending games as a student is an altogether different experience.
None of that has much at all to do with what I'll be working on here, and when it comes to recruiting I welcome any and all input, which will be a huge help especially as I get acclimated to the new job. Don't hesitate to contact me via Twitter (@aceanbender) or email (aceanbender [at] gmail [dot] com) with any advice, criticism, helpful recruiting tidbit or article, anything that you think would help me do the best possible job I can at the best Michigan blog in existence. I'll also be a constant presence on the board, posting under the moniker "Ace", so you can track me down there as well.
Thank you all for what has already been an outpouring of support, which is very much appreciated - I know that I'm following in the footsteps of a couple of great guys who did fantastic work, and I hope you all enjoy what I bring to this fine establishment.

Thank you for indirectly answering my question.
I was wondering if this was the same Ace and whether Brian had lost his mind. After reading his comments I was pretty sure it wasn't, but still was looking for some validation.
Whew!

Will be get cryptic suggestions to secure safety harnesses?

I have full faith that with time, you will rise to the level of recruiting acumen reached by Tom. big shoes to fill but it sounds like if any one can do it, it's you.

But it took me too long to comment.
Glad you've jumped in, and so promptly!

The Last Anbender?
Implications:
1. He's the earth's last hope against the Fire Nation (red like Ohio State).
2. He's unique, possibly being the very last of his kind.
3. He is a warrior.
4. He is romantically involved with pre-teen who bends water.
Edit: Katara is 14. I'll be the first to admit that I found her 'potentially attractive.'

Having not seen the movie (but definitely heard a few jokes about it), I was on board with this until point #4. Also, I have a younger brother, so technically I'm the second-to-last Anbender.

I seriously thought this was Ace Williams letting us all know he'sour now a part of this site. I'm assuming I'm not the only one.
I don't know anything about your work, but I trust that the head honchos hired the right guy for the job. Welcome aboard and good luck fulfilling the needs of the mgoboard (not that anybody could ever accomplish such a task)

I enjoyed your TWB as a great read. Maybe you should incorporate TWB icon with the Ace card?

Welcome to the site!! I occasionally perused your work at TWB, and you seem like a good fit for the job!

Is Ace your real name? Nickname?
August 23rd, 2011 at 12:00 AM ^
I probably should have addressed that - Ace is a lifelong nickname, to the point where I changed my entry in the U-M directory so I wouldn't have to correct every professor/GSI during attendance on the first day of class. My real name is Harry, a name I take great pride in (I'm named after my grandfather and great uncle, being the first-born son in my family), but my parents called me Ace before I was ever born. I've had relatives write me checks with 'Ace' on them, and it got to the point where I convinced the bank that they should just accept them instead of making me ask family members to re-send them using my real name.
No, my brother is not named 'Deuce' - just had to head that one off before it was even put forth.

Ace Anbender is the best reporter name since Wolf Blizter.
Now that I think about it, Wolf Blizter really should have covered sports, or ideally been a defensive coordinator. Oh well.

Welcome, Ace. Recruiting is such a huge part of the CFB landscape now. A great opportunity to you and I look forward to getting your insights over the years.

Welcome. Please don't be related to that other Ace.

Can we call you The Last Anbender?
August 23rd, 2011 at 2:29 PM ^
It's a good thing you didn't go to that Colorado game. Your testicles may have never dropped.
But really, I think you'll find that once you've become all Michigan, the game after you graduate are just as stuck in your memory. Frankly, maybe moreso, because a lot of students have the day as an event, and later, it more about the game.
I like the cut of your jib, and new voices and styles are always welcome.

I do believe you did some catsitting for me once. Clearly this job did not make full use of your strengths.
