Denard Robinson Action Figure & 2010 Schedule Wallpaper
The Denard Robinson Action Figure was created digitally. I thought it would be funny to fake a realistic-looking action figure of college football's brightest new star. Legal representation from the University of Michigan and the Heisman Trust didn't carefully read my explanation and therefore did not see the humor in what they assumed to be a production-ready toy meant for sale. I think I have that cleared up now. Anyway, you can read more below if you want a little information about how this artwork was created.
I had planned to release this during the bye week but couldn't wait...
When I started this weekly wallpaper project I decided that I would not design any wallpapers that show players or that focus on conventional Michigan imagery. There are several really nice wallpaper collections of that variety on this site already (see the awesome Wallpaper Denard-aganza by shorts) and I wanted to try something a little different.
In spite of my best efforts, I managed to get swept up in the excitement about Denard Robinson after last week's game. As an outlet for my excess fan energy, I started last Sunday on a concept for a new take on the "wallpaper as hero worship" phenomena.
So, I offer the Denard Robinson action figure "Heisman Candidate Edition" with "New! Rocket Arm Throwing Action" and lifelike, "Laces Untied."
The image below is a preview only. You can get this week's widescreen, 4:3, iPad and mobile wallpapers at The Art. The Art. The Art!.
How it was made
I'm pretty tired from several late nights obsessing over every little detail (Exactly how much tape shows over Denard's left sock? Is his left or right wristband blue? How many little holes are in his chin strap?) so I don't have time now for a full behind-the-scenes feature but I can tell those of you who are interested that the action figure is a store-bought and modified Tom Brady, that the dreads came from a Troy Palamalu action figure, that all of the modifications were done in Photoshop and that someday (probably the bye week) I will be publishing a step-by-step blog post that shows the makeover in unnecessarily and obsessively fine detail.

I thought it was real at first. That is quite possibly the greatest thing ever.

If there's anything MGoBlog users love, it's unnecessary and obsessively fine detail.
Looks fantastic, and I can't wait to see the tutorial. I've always wondered how stuff like this was made.

That is just exceptional. I mean, wow, that is just so well done. Nice job.

This is absolutely amazing, but you had me going for a second. I nearly emptied my bank account and ran out to the nearest M-Den or toy store to grab every one of those action figures.
Still, a man can dream, can't he?

This is amazing. Love the great detail, like the wear on the cardboard where his shoulder pad sticks out. And this cracked me up: "Small parts move fast and may leave defenders gasping for air." Ha!

That may be the single coolest creation I've ever seen from a user. When does mass production start?
September 18th, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
This is definitely the most amazing thing ever. Incredible job.

Phe-nomenal.
Good work on that. If such a product really existed I wouldn't hesitate to buy.

Any one else hear Cam Newton after the game talking shit about Denard? He said something along the lines of "Everyone's talking about that kid that don't tie his shoes at Michigan, It's my first year and I'm better then that kid by a mile I just have more weapons on my team or else I could get 400 a game too" What a dick head
September 19th, 2010 at 12:11 AM ^
It's gorgeous!
September 19th, 2010 at 12:48 AM ^
Epic.
I'm sure it's against NCAA rules, but if possible, these should be made and sold in the MGoStore so that all the people may be glad and rejoice.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:48 AM ^
Thats all it's,cam is a good player but he is no where near Denard's level when it comes to speed. And i think Denard is just as good of a passer as cam is.

Very well done! I'm looking forward to your Bowling Green wallpaper as well!

my heart sank once i realized it wasn't ACTUALLY an action figure :-(
September 20th, 2010 at 3:36 PM ^
I do believe that this is the Brady figure that it was based on. Get some modeling paint and some plastic dreads and make your own.
Oh, and post pics. The posbangs will be epic.

thats awesome. i love the warning....
September 20th, 2010 at 8:58 AM ^
There's no way this would be on the shelf long enough for the packaging to develop wear and tear at the point where it hangs!
September 20th, 2010 at 10:57 AM ^
I got really excited because I thought that this was something actually for sale and knew that, since it violated NCAA rules, it wouldn't last long. Still, sweet wallpaper.
September 20th, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
THis is Awesome. Best wallpaper ever and now on my desktop.
September 20th, 2010 at 4:25 PM ^
