Photos From The Fire Dave Brandon Rally
What started with a message board post became a law student wearing an Ohio State sweatshirt in protest:

While at first it appeared the media members would outnumber the protestors, that changed in a hurry, with the assembled crowd alternating chants of "Fire Brandon," "We Want Harbaugh," and "Down With Dave."
A little while in, a small group chanted "Schlissel's House!" Lo and behold, a few minutes later, the protest had moved to the university president's front lawn:
“I’m proud of our history. I’m not proud of Dave Brandon being a part of that history.”
The guy with the megaphone—I didn't catch who he was, but since he was interviewed by several media outlets, I'm sure it'll get out there—spoke for a while about his pride in the University's athletic history, his support of the students and athletes, and the failure of Dave Brandon to protect either. The rally ended with a mocking "Dave Sucks" chant and a rendition of The Victors. A certain blogger may or may not have been interviewed on live television.
The full set of photos from the rally is embedded below. I'd estimate the turnout ended up at somewhere around 400-500 people—not bad for something that started just hours earlier on a message board...

And yet you're here. . .

I'm proud of the student activism. If they don't fire Brandon tonight, I hope 5000 show up tomorrow.

Would anyone oppose if I wanted to slap the kid wearing the OSU sweatshirt upside the head?
I get it, man. You're voicing your opinion. But refusing to wear Michigan gear by wearing that horrid trash of OSU gear is just....I don't know. Part of me admires your enthusiasm, but the rest of me just wants to scream at you.
I don't like Hoke or Brandon anymore, but I'd never sink so low as to wear those horrible, disgusting colors. Just one man's opinion.

I'm guessing that was an actual OSU fan (maybe a grad student or local resident) who would like to see Michigan good again.

Or maybe it was the guy who started the thread telling people to show up to the next home game wearing red.

He could just wear a red sweatshirt. I don't see how giving money to OSU and pissing people off in the process really proves the point. Unless he is calling for UM to be more like OSU's AD, which if true, should immediately deem him unfit for bar passage in all 50 states plus DC.

Did the students chant for Hoke to get fired? Brandon deserves some of the blame, but surely the HEAD COACH deserves most of the blame...
Oh, that's right. Dave Brandon is a noted republican. Academia, and the students academia has brainwashed, hate conservatives.
The march was nothing more than a left-wing witch-hunt. Shame on those who attended, and shame on mgoblog for pertuating a political rally masked as an athletics protest.

that no matter what party Brandon is part of, he is doing his job pretty damn poorly.
keep the politics to yourself.

Hey now, I'm a conserva-type (well aware, no politics on the blog!--a very sound policy, btw), and all I'm saying is I *definitely* saw Dave Brandon dancing in the forest with Tituba.

The "we want Harbaugh" chants only confirm that. Hoke and Brandon will be gone by the end of the year, but this issue alone is not a fireable offense.

If wanting Harbaugh had anything to do with concussions.

really embarrassed to be an M fan these days
NOT because a player who took a few hits in the game went back into the game, people with FAR worse symptoms have gone back into games at other schools and nobody said squat!
because it was NOT apparent he had a concussion, he was limping, if Coach Hoke thought the kid had a concussion he would NOT have let him hand the ball off.
now did Hoke make a LOT of mistakes in the game? HELL YES
he isn't getting the job done right now, but what I am really embarrassed about is
because of all the self entitled idiot wussy "fans" we have.
WE AREN"T WINNING! FIRE THE COACH
burn him and the AD who raised ticket prices to pay for all the womens sports at the stake!!!
this is the politics of the day, just like they do it in DC
make shit up and pass it off as fact to get your way no matter who it hurts or if it destroys what you say you represent, no matter who it destroys or the damage it does to your program as long as you get your way its OK.
these are good people these stupid "fans" are trying to destroy
I am a long time Michigan fan, and I am completely embarrassed by our entitilement fans who don't show up at games but can show up at a stupid rally to say they made a difference.
be careful of the difference you are making people, you are not helping
but making things MUCH MUCH WORSE

your rant is misguided in too many ways to detail here. But I'll just reference the internet tough-guy part (everyone here is apparently a "wussie') and the misogynistic part (Brandon raised prices to pay for womens's sports). Now if you really believe Dave was motivated to raise prices to pay for women's sports, you are delusional. And football helps pay for all minor sports (men's and women's)--but you, of course, chose to note only those silly women and their damn sports--the ones Big Government is making us pay for ("just like they do DC"). Its pretty clear where you are coming from.

If people were calling for Brandon to be fired by claiming he slept with a student assistant, or claiming he embezzled funds from the University - that would be a witch hunt. Calling for him to be fired for factual aspects of his job performance is not a witch hunt. You can debate whether his job performance merits being fired or not, but you can't dismiss those calling for his ouster by claiming they are conducting a "witch hunt."

Shane was out there for one additional play after the hit, correct? It's the medical staff's responsibility to assess who can and can't play based on potential injuries. I think it was reasonable for Hoke to believe he could rely on his staff. Clearly, it's terrible that he was allowed back on the field. The fault for that is with the medical staff, not Coach Hoke. Changing the policies of the medical staff, or if need be, firing that staff, seems more reasonable than firing Hoke unless we can say for sure Coach Hoke overrided the medical staff's decision to keep Morris off the field. Protest the medical staff, and Dave Brandon, too, but leave Hoke out of it. Coach Hoke's record is enough to merit losing his job in the eye's of many, but to include such a chant like the Harbaugh chant only trivializes and disrespects the primary cause of the protest: Shane Morris' well-being being further jeopardized by remaining in the game.
I hope I'm not accused of being a troll for politely sharing my opinion on this heated issue.

The medical staff isn't responsible for wins and losses. Wait, did I say wins and losses? I meant concussions. Yeah, I'm upset about concussions. No, really.

What an embarrassment. The administration. The coaches. The fans. What a sad time for all involved. Clueless administration. Incompetent coaches. Entitled fans. Mix them up, and you get a perfect shitstorm. An OSU sweatshirt? For real? And this is supposed to be in support of the players? Laughable. What a goddamned joke we've become. I would love to hear the sales pitch to the next coaching candidate. I'm sure guys will be lining up around the block for this job.
