Wow, haven't heard it called the Copper Bowl in a long time. Didn't even recognize which game you were referring to for a second ... but I assume you have an (understandable) standing policy against Generic Corporate Sponsor Bowl nonsense?

Or has young children that wake them up at 6:00-6:30 every saturday and sunday because they are so happy to have their dad stay home all day on the weekend.  I am not sad (although I am pretty damn tired) about this.

Of course I will be staying up for the game and cheering as if it were the National Championship game, but it still sucks for those of us that can't sleep in the next day.  There is just no need for this start time.  You could to a 7:00 local kickoff, which would be 9:00 Eastern.  Still a night game, but a bit less brutal on many of us.

Or those of us who both have young kids and have an early flight back to CA the next morning from Grand Rapids. Flying across country with young kids makes for a long day, and I wasn't planning on staying up until 2 (which is the time I'd get to sleep after the game ends).

Duffs has gone downhill a lot over the last few years. In fact when we were there last Christmas visiting family they were barely on par with BWW, we vowed never to go back when we visit. Anchor bar was never that impressive. I mean they were good, but not the best. Hard to pick one that's the best, but Bar Bill was probably my top choice if I had to choose.

Personal preference. Never had duffs or anchor bar, but lived across the street from spots for 2 years. Smoked every. day and never really craved Spots more than once a week tops (BLASPHEMY!). Ate a ton of quickie burger and btb though. Since moving, I eat the shit out of some BWW and crave them way more than ever did spots for whatever reason.

Three year season ticket holder. Went to the last two bowl games (even bought the tickets from the Uni like a good little Wolverine), but this is a straight up fucking embarrassment. I was pretty pumped to see us take on Georgia (hell, I was planning on going), but seriously... fuck. that. shit.

I've stayed quiet about all the recent troubles but this is just the straw breaking my back. I suppose we don't know what happened behind the scenes but given that all the projections had us in the Gator Bowl I can't imagine what must have happened.

Who cares? It's a match up of 7-5 teams after a dreaful year for Michigan. Does winning the BWW bowl make the season a success? No. Does losing make it even worse? Yes. There is very little upside to this bowl game. However, had Michigan been playing in the Gator bowl against Georgia, winning that game would have at least been against a good team from the SEC. On top of that it would have been on New Years Day when people tune in to watch football, rather than at 10:30 at night on a day few people watch football, against a team no one cares about.

Average Nielsen rating of Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl over last 3 years:  2.6 (4.3 million viewers)

Average Nielsen rating of Gator Bowl over last 3 years:  1.7 (2.6 million viewers)

If you would rather see Michigan play in Jacksonville, fine, but don't pretend that more people would have been watching Michigan play in the Gator Bowl.

I guess the thing about the Gator Bowl is that it has some history.  If you're older, you remember Woody Hayes punching Charlie Bauman in that game one year and then Lawrence Taylor destroying Johnny Wangs' knee in that game a year later.  In the lexicon of bowl games, any bowl that can trace its history back to the '70's qualifies as a classic, even if it's played in Jacksonville.

I can tell you that the UGA fans would rather play Michigan.  Hell, they got a re-match with the same team they played last year, with neither team being as good now as they were then.

I'd rather see Michigan play against a team that matters. Beating Georgia would matter, beating KSU will not. If the BWW had Oregon, Oklahoma, or some other school that is a sexy match-up then I would be all for the BWW. You go ahead and get excited about that KSU match up any way you can.

Getting picked by the Gator Bowl would not have improved our 7-5 regular season record.

Arguing that you'd rather see a matchup with an SEC team (even a mediocre one) is one thing, but there are a lot of people griping about how we "sank to such a lowly bowl" and at the same time arguing for a matchup in a bowl that would have meant we "sank" lower. It would be like Trey Burke complaining that he didn't get picked by the Clippers or something.

Ultimately, Michigan got picked ahead of two superior teams, in terms of B1G standing: Minnesota and Nebraska. We should be thankful. And while the stadium kind of sucks, I submit that Phoenix/Tempe/Scottsdale is a nicer place to be in December than Jacksonville.

The place is interesting for about a day (which in all fairness should work out well for a bowl trip) but it isn't what I would call a destination all of itself.  Then again, Jacksonville isn't either...  I guess I hate cactus, but I hate Florida more!
