Jake Butt, Chris Wormley Named Captains
[Patrick Barron]
Jake Butt and Chris Wormley are Michigan's co-captains this year, according to Chris Wormley:
It's an honor to represent @UMichFootball with @JBooty_88 as Co-captains for the team this year! #GoBlue
— Chris Wormley (@Chris_Wormley43) August 27, 2016
There were many suitable candidates—Jehu Chesson and Jourdan Lewis come to mind—but it's hard to argue with those choices.

Actually, it means a lot. It means that Harbaugh understands leadership. The person with two bosses has none. We have one President. We have one Governor. We have one head coach. This pansy-ass nonsense of having 6 co-captains spreads the leadership amongst too many players to the point where no one knows who the leader is.

Are you speaking from experience as a former Michigan football player, or are you just making this up as you go along?
We have heard layers talk about captain when there have been multiple captains per side of the ball, and when has been one. None of them ever mentioned a significant difference, as far as I can recall.
I, personally, prefer to have just the two captains, offense and defense, because that's the overwhelmingly traditional Michigan way, but I'm not going to invent facts to support my preference.

This team is loaded with leadership potential. Two stalwarts prevailed. Let's give 'em our support. Hail to the Victors.

So glad the Michigan captains are two instead of legion.

with so many to choose from, congradulations fellas It must be quite an honor to be voted Cpt. by your team mates. So I will be looking forward to you two guys hoisting up the National Championship trophy together. It will be a site to behold. Good Luck and Godspeed, and as always Go Blue.

Wormley and Butt are great choices. Tough, manly competitors. While it is always cool to have a QB/RB or star like Jabril as a capitan, picking lineman is perfect. (I consider TE a lineman.)
I'm hoping Michael Onwenu is a captain by his senior year. Would have to be the biggest captain ever.

Who made that man a Captain?

This is a great honor for these two fine young men. Great choices!

I think they should get Michigan themed captains hats, and be referred to as "Captain Butt" and "Captain Wormley" for the rest of the year.

Awesome idea. Captain Butt and Captain Worm (the -ley of Wormley intentionally left out)!
Generally differentiating leaders from the rest of a team too much (especially with headgear) can lead to cohesion problems, but I think hats that say "Captain Butt" and "Captain Worm" are simultaneously hilarious and self-depreciating enough not to have that problem.

Both great selections. I am not sure if it was planned this way, but good to see representatives for both sides of the ball.

Flagged number 4 on the Gopher jersey is interesting.

How was that Minnesota guy wearing our totally brand new and unique #4 last year?
Upon further review, their 4 is slightly different from our new 4. Funny, though.

Q for RYG (or anyone else who knows and isn't just guessing): does the whole team select both the captains, or do the offense and defense each vote for their own captain seperately?

Any college kid mature enough to have a schedule where his phone is scheduled to be on do not disturb before 11:00 seems like captain material.
