6 days 5 hours ago I totally agree.  Everybody

I totally agree.  Everybody said that about WIll Campbell too... and he was a five star recruit - not a 3 and 4 star tweener - and now he's in the NFL.  So quick to judge, tisk tisk.

12 weeks 1 day ago I love you... in a non-creepy way

""Upset city, baby" patently unfair here since Dick Vitale in fact put Michigan in his Final Four. I enjoy being patently unfair to Dick Vitale. If you consider this a character flaw in me, I consider it a character flaw in you. So there."

Oh Brian, this is precisely why we love you so much... awesome.

12 weeks 4 days ago Humbling?

He said being the first freshman in Michigan history to receive a scholarship offer was "humbling"?  Can somebody please explain this to me.  How does getting offered free education at one of the finest academic institutions in the country as a freshman... because you're that good... humble you?  His ego is probably through the roof.

13 weeks 18 hours ago He looks to be a little over

He looks to be a little over 5' 9"  Get a grip... 5' 6" is ridiculous.  Have you ever even met the guy?  Clearly not.

13 weeks 3 days ago The abstract approach, not the individuals

Beiline is RIchRodian because the structure of his offensive and defensive philosophies are similar to that of Rich Rod.  When we were losing by a few points to Wisconsin in the closing minutes, what was the strategy?  We played 4 guards and Mitch McGary.  We went extremely small... and that small lead Wisconsin was enjoying turned into an insurmountably devistating lead.  Beiline tried to do something that would help us take the game back, but ultimately made things far worse.

The standard philosophy Beiline has is to put three guards on the court at all times and make 3-point shots to win games.  This is equivalent to Rich Rod playing small fast guys and getting them in space to make big plays.  It's the same philosphy.  Defensively, it's much of the same as well.  We are trying to trap a lot and get turnovers so we can convert them to fast-break points. I like that idea but it can't be the foundation of your offensive production.

I really believe we need to change the way we think about basketball in Ann Arbor.  What we are doing now is not going to work.  We need three big men on the court at all times.  We need to play help defense and contest more shots, especially in the paint.  We need to push the court and run the fast-break when the opportunity arrises but we shouldn't build our offensive on that idea.  What our offense needs to consist of is our point guard driving into the lane, pulling double teams, and kicking the ball out to a shooter or a big man in the post who is open for a dunk.

This is what Larry Brown did as the coach of the Pistons.  The Pistons weren't good because they had the best athletes on the floor.  They were good because this strategy works.  You need a foundation in defense and an offense that can create open looks by creating number disadvantages for the other team.

14 weeks 1 day ago Lessons Learned

1) refs don't like calling flagrant fouls when Michigan players are flagrantly fouled.
2) free throws are very far from free when in relation to Michigan
3) Getting down early and blowing leads is an art Michigan has perfected
4) Interior defense is either not very high on the list of priorities or the Michigan coaches are really really bad.
5) Tom Crean behaves like a small child win or lose and is best to just ignore.

Your welcome... the end.

14 weeks 1 day ago Timeout-gate

When we used that last time out, I had flashbacks of Chris Webber going through my head.  We lost the game, but at least it wasn't as heinous of a loss as that. #brightside

Plus, am I the only one that thinks the regular season Big 10 Champs is a ridiculous title?  It's like finishing the NFL season and the team with the most wins says, "We're regular season champions!"  Congratulations... nobody cares.  Go win the Big 10 tournament (playoffs) and then we'll talk about how you're champions.  Am I right?  There's the Big 10 tournament champions and then there's the NCAA tournament champions.  Everything else is bogus.

15 weeks 1 day ago I  ran into the Michigan

I  ran into the Michigan basketball team's doc at subway on Michigan Ave in Saline after the game... he said it was way fewer than 12 stitches above Stouskas' eye.  He wouldn't give us a definite number other than it's a lot less than 12.  CBS overplayed it.

15 weeks 5 days ago Congratulations boys and

Congratulations boys and girls.  To all of those who live in proximity to the unfortunate Penn State fan, when confronted with ridicule and unpromped laughter, I suggest responding by saying, "Jerry Sandusky"... and then turning around and walking away.

Other than that... you're basically screwed.  I would not be totally opposed to firing Beiline.  The defense has improved very little, if at all, since the start of the season.  The same weakenesses are there... teams have only gotten better at exploiting them.

16 weeks 23 hours ago Depth is really an offensive

Depth is really an offensive lineman's best friend.

1) You will have fantastic upperclassmen mentors who can teach you valuable skills that will drastically improve your game.
2) You will have fantastic competition that will push you to accomplish more than you ever thought possible
3) You can develop your skills with the best coaches and teammates while not risking injury from in-game competition.
4) Establishing credibility for the programs collective offensive line success will make you a more desirable NFL prospect.
5) Since there are virtually no offensive linemen statistics, not seeing the field early in your college career has almost no negative consequences in the long run.

The fact that offensive linemen have no relavent statistics is something that is really uique to the position and can be used to establish huge O-line depth in recruiting.  With exception to the highly debatable assertion that in-game experience is the most important kind of experience one can have, there is really no tangible benefit to actually getting playing time as an offensive linemen.

16 weeks 1 day ago I think it's good that

I think it's good that Montgomery left.  At Michigan, the university encourages students to study abroad as well as pursue their graduate educations at universities that aren't Michigan.  The reason is because we see the value in leaning different methods for solving problems.  Michigan knows it isn't perfect and so it's important to see how other people do things better and worse than Michigan so you can encorporate the best of what others do in your own work.

I think what Jerry Montgomery learns at Oklahoma will ultimately help him become a better coach and a better advisor and example for young athletes.  We just need to maintain that he will always be a Michigan Man.

16 weeks 1 day ago Well if Montgomery isn't

Well if Montgomery isn't going to recruit any player at Oklahoma that he also recruited at Michigan, then you would have to prove specifically Jerry Montgomery recruited Andrew Williams while at Michigan and not some other Michigan coach.  I think the point is that it is wrong for Michigan to devote resources (capital) for Montgomery to establish a working relationship with a recruit only for him to use that time and capital to turn the recruit over to Oklahoma.

29 weeks 4 days ago Calling them "goats" is not

Calling them "goats" is not an ad hominem fallacy... but your argument that it is fallacious is an equivocation linguistics fallacy.

29 weeks 4 days ago Is the reason why you don't

Is the reason why you don't like the "goats?" catagory simply because it uses the term "goat" to describe players who committed several mistakes throughout the game?  Would it be acceptable if it were called, "most in need of improvement"?  That's actually an equivocation fallacy.  You do realize that Brian's not actually refering to these players as "goats" in a literal sense right?

30 weeks 1 day ago Can we drop Minnesota,

Can we drop Minnesota, Illinois, or Penn State (they are dead to me at this point) from the Big Ten while we're at it?  Everybody talks about conference expansion but what about conference contraction?

30 weeks 2 days ago The redshirt year for Jake

The redshirt year for Jake was not so much about learning scheme and fundamentals as it was about bulking up, getting stronger, and increasing his burst to the football.  Gerg might have been bad but Mike Barwis wasn't.

34 weeks 2 days ago Bye bye Pat Narduzzi and whatever is left of Sparty Supremacy

I've been hearing talk that Pat Narduzzi, MSU defensive coordinator, might be leaving East Lansing in hopes of finding a better gig.  I would make the argument that Pat Narduzzi is more of a contributing factor to Michigan State's recent success than Mark Dantonio is.  Of course, the same could be said about Mattison in relation to Brady but that's neither here nor there.  The point is, if Narduzzi does end up going elsewhere, I would be very willing to contend that MSU could become much more like Iowa or possibly even Illinois in the next few years.

37 weeks 4 days ago Repeated Penetration

"Washington in particular was impressive with his repeated penetration." Tehe... yeah I'm a child.  Get over yourself.

37 weeks 6 days ago Let's Play Teams That Don't Cheat

So if we remove all of the possible teams that don't oversign, teams that Michigan has an even playing field with, we are left with:

Washington. Full in 2015 but could probably cancel Sacramento State or something. Nothing but a Montana game the next couple years.

Missouri. Nothing but Memphis and Wyoming.

NC State. I know this is the opposite of thrilling, but they've got openings.

Georgia. Annual game against Georgia Tech hurts things but they don't have another real nonconference opponent lined up in 2015 or 2016.

TCU. Normally I'd look at a team playing nine conference games with a real opponent lined up (Arkansas) and say no way but TCU may want to go for it to establish their bonafides, that sort of thing. They would want a home game in 2015, too.

It's Georgia... please God... get us Georgia!!!

48 weeks 4 days ago FABULOUS FIVE?

I'm pretty sure the Fab Five was already a thing... so...  What did you think "Fab" was short for?  And don't say "The Fantastic Five" because then you're just a marvel comicbook knockoff.
