One of the top targets for 2023 [Patrick Barron]

The 2023 Recruiting Board Comment Count

Alex.Drain October 19th, 2022 at 3:00 PM

This is our sticky recruiting board for 2023. When I or Seth finish a major update, it will be reposted to the top of the site. Otherwise it will be under the "Useful Stuff" tab.

The Guys:

 Icon Name Meaning
Sad Josh The genre of player with unrequited interest in Michigan. Unlikely to receive offers; most will eventually fade off the list and go to Duke or Michigan State or something.
Tommy Torpor Player Michigan wanted, but who told Michigan he's going elsewhere so they've cut off their pursuit.
Nefarious Eduardo Player is a longshot. Either they've declared someone else a leader publicly or popular opinion holds that they're likely to go to another school.
Hopeful Hank Cousin of Sad Josh, the category of player Michigan has on the line heading into NSD whose committable offer is contingent on how the top prospects swing.
Data Either no opinion or Michigan is one of a fairly even group of chasing schools. Players in this category maintain no leader or change their leader frequently. The default category for players that we don't know much about yet.
Happy Teeth Players who have Michigan in a small leading group or have Michigan as a tenuous favorite. Should be regarded as a good shot, not a slam dunk.
Mr. Blue Player is either a verbal or is expected to be one sooner or later. Players with this designation are 65%+ to be Michigan commits.

The order of these faces are based on how likely the given player is to end up at Michigan and how high of a priority this player is. A couple notes I've copied and pasted from our 2022 board:

A Note on "Stars": These are a general (not exact) average of a player's status among the recruiting services.

A Note on Premium Info: No illicit sharing of said material will appear on this site. Players are listed with interested schools in their profiles; this information is public. Commitments are by definition public. Any assertions as to schools in the mix, decision dates, or leaders I will back up with links to the source of the information.

Quarterback

Needs: 1. JJ and Cade are both back next year but it seems decently likely that one won't be on the 2023 roster given the way that QB decision making goes nowadays with the portal. Alan Bowman has one year of eligibility remaining, so he'll be gone by '23, and Michigan took two QBs in the 2022 class. It seems perhaps most likely that the Wolverines will take one in this class and then add a grad transfer if they lose both Bowman and one of Cade/JJ next offseason.

What I wrote in January 2022: Dante Moore is the only name worth discussing right now. I listed a couple other guys in the table, but there's only one player on the board who Michigan is putting any resources into recruiting right now, and that's Moore. He's a 5* and he goes to HS in Detroit (MLK). That's the kind of recruit you have to have, and Harbaugh knows it. Cutting off major pursuit of anyone else sends that message to a kid, which is what Michigan has done.

What I wrote in April 2022: The all-or-nothing approach to Dante Moore is still happening, but the probability has dropped some and become all the more risky. Moore has had serious flirtations with Notre Dame, although he will not be committing until late summer and the fact he hasn't means he isn't totally sold on the Irish. The SEC is involved, and playing time is said to be a major factor. Michigan needs to step up the game, because they still are not actively recruiting anyone else.

The Latest: Michigan was unable to land Dante Moore after putting all the eggs in that basket. Moore did not click with the coaching staff and it is reported that the combination of an enormous NIL package and an easy path to playing time helped to push Moore to commit to the Oregon Ducks. The Wolverines are not pursuing any other QBs this cycle.

Best Guess: Swing-and-a-miss. Onto 2024 and Jadyn Davis.

Malachi Nelson CA ***** USC SoCal 5* staying in SoCal

Running Back

Needs: 1-2. Michigan currently has just one RB in the 2022 class, after taking Edwards and Dunlap together in the 2021 class (they took one (Corum) in 2020). If they continue the pattern of taking 2 backs every other year, then this would be the year to take 2. Either way, you have to have at least one.

What I wrote in January 2022: Jayden Limar has been at the top of Michigan's board for awhile, but Treyaun Webb has started to enter the picture. His is an odd recruitment, decommitting once from Georgia in Jan. 2021 and then decommitting from Oklahoma once Riley bailed. Now on his third go round, he's planning to visit Ann Arbor this offseason. Limar has already visited twice, but the west coast schools are players to keep the west coast kid. Some of the other names on the boards are harder pulls, blue chip RBs from the south where you're trying to fend off the $EC.

What I wrote in April 2022: The Wolverines have now gotten their two RBs, although they will always be poking around for more. They'll need to hold on to Cabana as he continues to fly up recruiting rankings, but so long as Hart is around, they'll have the inside track to do so. Hall and Cabana bring two different elements to an RB room, and this is not a shabby group to have be seemingly finished.

The Latest: Michigan still has Cabana and Hall in the class and they have had rather divergent senior seasons. Cabana is lighting it up and making the recruiting insiders very happy, while Hall has struggled mightily, being benched at one point. The situation with Hall led to much discourse between recruiting writers over whether Hart made a massive error in taking him so early. Though Michigan probably is finished at this position, they are poking around with Iowa decommit Kendrick Raphael. I would also watch in case ND commit Jayden Limar jars free from his commitment at any point.

Best Guess: Probably these two guys unless someone falls into their laps or they push for Raphael.

Wide Receiver

Needs: 2-3. Before The Game 2021, it seemed as if this may need to be a big class. But thanks to that roaring success, Michigan closed 2022 well, reeling in Amorion Walker and Darrius Clemons at the buzzer, to add to Tyler Morris. As a result (and due to the existing WR backlog on the roster), Michigan doesn't need to take a big WR class in 2023, and can afford to be picky.

What I wrote in January 2022: Semaj Morgan is already in the class and he seems 100% locked in. That gives you one, and Michigan wants to pair the smaller, slot(y) Morgan with the bigger Jalen Brown. They've been working hard on him for awhile and are near the top of the potential suitors. They have links to him through Desmond Howard, but he's a blue-chip receiver from South Florida, so it won't come easy. The Wolverines are also in a decent spot with Bryson Rodgers, but it's pretty early there. There's mutual interest with guys like Doss and Elzy, but they're farther down the board.

What I wrote in April 2022: Things really changed here with the exit of Josh Gattis. Ron Bellamy swung over from safeties to WR and has essentially had to completely restructure the board, especially since Gattis was fading on the trail in his last couple weeks on the job. They've lost ground on Jalen Brown thanks to the coaching change and a bunch of new WR targets have appeared, while others, including those who visited in November, seem to be lost in the shuffle. Shelton Sampson is Bellamy's new pie-in-the-sky, and the Louisiana connection is there, but that will be a tough pull. Ashton Cozart and Noble Johnson are two new names just being mentioned, and the next few months should be very instructive as to who the new top targets are.

The Latest: Michigan added Fred Moore to the class over the summer and are now looking for a third, more highly rated piece to add to the puzzle. The newest name is Auburn decommit Karmello English, who visited for the PSU game. Early returns seem positive and M may be the team to beat there, though he will not be committing until the end of November. Jarren Hamilton is another name they are interested but he appears lower priority than English.

Best Guess: Moore and Morgan are locked in and then English would seem most likely right now as the third piece, but that is far, far from a sure thing. If it's not English or Hamilton, they may just move on to 2024 and only take two.

Tight End

Needs: 2. Michigan did take two TEs in the 2022 class, but have already made it clear that they want two in this class. Rappleyea committed recently, and they are not slowing down their pursuit of top TE targets. Jim loves his tight ends, so here we are.

What I wrote in January 2022: Rappleyea is already in the class as their first TE prospect. As for #2, Walker Lyons is someone that the staff loves, and he's the top guy on Michigan's board. That won't be an easy battle to win though, a top 100 composite prospect with no shortage of national suitors. They're trying to pry ND commit Cooper Flanagan free, and are also checking in on a few other names. It seems to me that those options are higher on the board than either Zinter or Anderson, both of whom you'd think Michigan is a heavy favorite for (Anderson especially) if they deem either of those two as takes, given the sibling connections.

What I wrote in April 2022: Here's another positional group that's seen a coaching change, as Jay Harbaugh has swapped with Grant Newsome. Michigan lost Andrew Rappleyea to Penn State, which was pretty surprising, and are now back to square zero. The spotlight has since moved to Deakon Tonelli, who visited for The Game and has shown much interest in the program, especially since Rappleyea bailed. Some are putting in predictions for the Wolverines to land him. Kade Eldridge is rising up the rankings and appears to have Michigan in his top group of schools, and is one to monitor. Michigan made the top eight for Riley Williams, but that still seems like a tough pull.

The Latest: Michigan scooped up commitments from Deakon Tonielli of Illinois and Zack Marshall of California over the summer. Both are receiving oriented players with high upside who will need to learn the physical and blocking points of the position as they add strength. In that way, they are a mold of player Michigan is very familiar with at TE, from Zach Gentry to Luke Schoonmaker to Erick All to Colston Loveland. A lot of reason to like this group and the coaching staff is satisfied.

Best Guess: These are the dudes the Wolverines are taking and Michigan is onto 2024.

Offensive Line

Needs: 4-6. I reported back before signing day that Michigan was taking it easy with 2022 and planning a big OL class for '23 (5-6 like in 2019). That still seems to be the case. Michigan probably doesn't need that many, because the cupboard in the OL room is well stocked currently, but you never turn down lots of promising bodies.

What I wrote in January 2022: Michigan's got a pair of OT prospects whose recruitments are heating up that they're in it for in Montgomery and Green. Both are not easy lifts as top 100 composite guys (Montgomery especially as an Ohio kid you're fighting OSU for), but both visited over MLK weekend and have very real interest. Likewise, there are a pair of guards Michigan is in decent standing with. It seemed that Sam Pendleton was trending towards Michigan ahead of his February commitment date but a recent Clemson offer has complicated that. West Bloomfield kid Amir Herring is still a decent bet given all the connections. Everyone else is either a longshot or still too early to say much about at this time.

What I wrote in April 2022: Some momentum has been lost with Sherrone Moore taking over OC duties and not being as aggressive on the trail for a period of time. Sam Pendleton surprisingly picked Notre Dame (not Clemson) and Luke Montgomery picked OSU. Cayden Green is still on the board, but that remains a tough battle against the Sooners. OU likely leads. It's a similar story for Charles Jaguash, where Michigan is battling Notre Dame and the Irish likely lead. Amir Herring went through a period where it seemed like Michigan cooled, but now are re-affirming their interest. Still likely to come to Ann Arbor if he can be convinced Moore actually wants him. There hasn't been a ton of buzz on some of the guys who visited in the fall, and new names like Spencer Fano have been added to the board. The summer will tell us a ton.

Latest: This position has changed quite a bit since we last checked in on it. Michigan lost out on Paul Mubenga after seemingly having him wrapped up, but then landed a pair of 4* prospects in the summer, in-stater Amir Herring (IOL) and DMV area Evan Link (OT). Both are very solid gets who present high-floor, college-ready profiles. The Wolverines still want two more in the class and the next most likely target appears to be consensus 3* (On3 has him in the top 150 though) G Nathan Efobi from Georgia, for whom Michigan holds all the predictions. To fill the second tackle spot, there are several options but 4* Tailafi Ta'ala being the most winnable if Michigan pushes. Seems like they are still looking at all the options before pulling the trigger.

Best Guess: Efobi feels like a good bet to join the class at this point in time and he would be a solid addition. That would fill the quota at IOL, and then it's a matter of finding a tackle. Ta'ala is winnable, but Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu seem like slightly higher priority targets. Nick Fattig is also flippable further down the list. The only way I see this class swelling to 5 is if Michigan pulls out DJ Chester.

Edge

Needs: 3. Michigan did not have the greatest edge class in 2022, losing out on Ethan Burke late, and it continues to seem unlikely that Kevonte Henry actually signs with the Wolverines due to the loss of Courtney Morgan. In which case, they need to make this a big class, and ideally one laced with stars.

What I wrote in January 2022: This positional group has recently been turned on its head by the hiring of Mike Elston as DL coach. Hiring him gives Michigan a puncher's chance for commitments that were seemingly over, most notably Keon Keeley, an elite 5* prospect who Elston had locked up at ND. Similarly, some of the names on this board (like Devan Houstan) are players who Michigan is yet to offer, but given that Elston offered them at ND/was in decent position for them, they are likely to see imminent offers from the Maize & Blue. Other players on this board are ones who have existing commitments to other schools (Avery/James) but whose recruitments are not over yet, especially with Michigan gaining some recruiting mojo after reeling in Elston.

What I wrote in April 2022: The pursuit of 5* Nyckoles Harbor continues and Michigan has to like where they sit, but it won't come easy. USC is the other top competitor, and Maryland looms in the background. Harbor's teammate Joseph Mupoyi is rising up the board and visited for the Spring Game, seeming to have considerable interest in Michigan. Landing Mupoyi could definitely help bring in the 5* big fish a la Dwumfour and Gary. The DMV is a busy area for Michigan at this position, as they remain in the conversation for Devan Houstan, and Dashawn Womack out of St. Frances is now a hot target on the board. Enow Etta is the disappointment right now, trending towards MSU, but there is still time. Him cooling may be a consequence of Michigan cooling on his buddy, Trey Wilson.

Latest: One change here is I have moved Nyckoles Harbor from EDGE to a newly created ATH category. Harbor looks increasingly unlikely to be a full-time EDGE at the NCAA level because the addition of weight required to be an EDGE would conflict with his track career. TE or WR perhaps seems more likely, so he is no longer classified here, though it's possible he could play a little on defense in college. Anyway, back to the normal programming, Michigan has gotten its crop of EDGE prospects, with Mike Elston doing a very solid job. He beat MSU for borderline Top 100 prospect Enow Etta, beat Miami/UCLA and other NIL fiends for Collins Acheampong, and unearthed his new diamond in the rough prospect Aymeric Koumba out of France. Long, explosive, and physical EDGE guys is the theme of this class and I am a big fan of what he's done. One final note: Mupoyi slipped off the board due to an undisclosed "issue", reportedly not related to football, that stalled his recruitment with Michigan.

Best Guess: Michigan will have room to add one more if they have a prospect they're in love with, but for now this group seems set and is arguably the strength of the 2023 recruiting class, especially with Acheampong moving up into the top 200 of the composite.

Defensive Tackle

Needs: 3. Michigan only took two DTs in the 2022 class in Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, and so like with EDGE, they are aiming to load up at the position in this class. Reports are that the staff would ultimately like seven DL between the two positions, so lots of room to grow the class.

What I wrote in January 2022: Just as we discussed with EDGE, things are a bit murky now due to the recent hiring of Mike Elston. The example of this is Joel Starlings, who was in the class but decommitted after Nua left. Elston's hiring doesn't just mean that new relationships need to be built, but also that the board is going to change. It remains to be seen if, say, Elston is as high on Starlings as Nua was. Thus, the board as constructed is a bit all over the place. A number of guys Michigan likes but for whom it is early, and others who Michigan likes but for whom they need to make up significant ground.

What I wrote in April 2022: Michigan picked up a commitment from Brooks Bahr, who is an intriguing add, but not a headliner for this positional group. Unlike edge, a clear hierarchy of gettable targets has not quite emerged yet. Michigan is in the mix for Samuel M'Pemba and John Walker, as well as one of their top targets Jordan Hall (not to be confused with the LB Jordan Hall). Jalen Thompson is not trending in the right direction, but there is a new list of targets since the last update who are still in the early stages, names like Clements, Lora, and Howard. The summer will provide an opportunity for Elston and Harbaugh to work their magic during the official visits and try to nail a couple down to round out the class besides Bahr.

Latest: Michigan started out with a pretty wide board for this class after grabbing Bahr but have not made a ton of progress. They've continued to pursue Kayden McDonald, who is on top of their board at this position, and that recruitment is going to come down to the wire, a tight battle with Clemson, among other schools. After that I'm not sure what Plan B is, though perhaps it's Rodney Lora, who Michigan is still evaluating whether he's a take or not. My'Keil Gardner was a guy Michigan really liked but a late NIL-based push by Oregon won that one. Stay tuned for what happens with McDonald.

Best Guess: McDonald is the main guy and if it's not him, maybe it's Lora. Bahr is locked in. Looks like only a 2-person class despite the desire for 3.

Linebacker

Needs: 2 or 3. The Wolverines took two in 2022 after Aaron Alexander dropped out of the class, which more or less keeps the LB room well stocked. Most years under Harbaugh they've taken two or three LBs, and I would expect that to be roughly the same in the 2023 class.

What I wrote in January 2022: Michigan is already in a good spot, having reeled in top 100 composite LB Raylen Wilson. Having that as your floor allows you to aim high and pursue some big dogs who may be tough lifts, which is what they're doing. Not many names here are terribly likely at this juncture, but they're in the hunt for quite a few. George Helow is proving himself to be a very respectable recruiter, which will give Michigan a shot, even in some of the tougher battles.

What I wrote in April 2022: Michigan is fighting tooth and nail to keep Raylen Wilson, who continues to communicate with $EC schools, notably Florida and Georgia. The loss of Mike Macdonald hurt the quest to keep Wilson in the class, and Jesse Minter is working to establish a relationship. Will not be easy. There aren't any other names who seem like great bets at the moment, but many of these players are not nearing decisions either. Bowles will be a tough pull, while they're working to get Grayson Howard on campus. Still a ways to go with guys like Lefau, Picciotti, and Jayvant Brown.

Latest: M stomached the brutal loss of Raylen Wilson, who flipped to Georgia, but did pick up a solid commit in Semaj Bridgeman from the Philadelphia area. Finding a second LB for this class has been very difficult as George Helow's recruiting has left something to be desired. Late riser Arrion Carter is a guy Michigan liked a lot but the big southern fishes have gotten involved and it seems unlikely. They are trying to pry Hayden Moore free of Nebraska but he seems pretty firm, while Desirrio Chiles is a new name that has just appeared and no one knows much about him.

Best Guess: Bridgeman is locked in and I assume they'll add a second player just to have a body but this position is coming in below expectations and will need to be rectified in the 2024 class.

Cornerback

Needs: 2. It is site policy that you can never have too many corners, and while that's true, this is probably not going to be a massive DB class after taking six (three at corner, three at safety) in 2022. Michigan has room to possibly take three, but two is the number we're going to start with.

What I wrote in January 2022: Michigan is chasing a couple big fish types in McClain and Hurley but neither seem super likely. The next tier of prospects is where the more realistic targets are, including a pair who seem to have the Wolverines near the top early on (Bell/Hill). Gill seems like a corner they could get if they deem him a take. The rest of the names are still pretty early on in their respective recruitments, or in Gates' case, a player Michigan is in the midst of a lengthy process of trying to pry from a school undergoing a coaching change.

What I wrote in April 2022: Michigan's got two corners they feel decent about nabbing right now. Jyaire Hill wants to wait until the summer to commit, but if he had to pick now, it sounds like Michigan would be the choice. Aaron Gates is a Florida commit that they've been trying to pry for awhile, and a couple of prediction forecasts have rolled in for the affirmative. Outside of that, Clinkscale is poking around on a few others, but those are the two guys they are closest with. We'll see if they can nail down either of them (or both) and then go from there. Not having a coach switch positions at DB is a boon for corners.

Latest: Amazingly two of the names mentioned in the April 2022 update are still on the board and still among the top targets. Aaron Gates looks less likely to flip now than he did previously but supposedly the door is not closed. Hill meanwhile is more or less a tossup, the subject of one of the stranger recruiting pursuits of the cycle, with the player and mother strongly divided at points during the process. It's coming down to Michigan, who are steadily prioritizing Hill, and home-state Illinois, who are making Hill their #1 recruiting target in 2023 at any position and have a defense that looks increasingly excellent. I've heard people who have predicted Hill to go both ways and we may not know for awhile. Chris Peal is making a decision next week and while Georgia is favored, that door doesn't seem totally closed yet either. You can probably forget about Javien Toviano though.

Best Guess: Michigan has to get at least somebody. This wasn't going to be a big DB class after last season but with most of the targets for the entire secondary at the CB position, Michigan would like to still get a couple of guys. I think in an ideal world you want two of Peal/Gates/Hill but right now one would do and TBD who they'd get after that... maybe take just one and roll scholarships over to 2024? I do wonder if there's a chance they could try Kendrick Bell at DB.

Targets

Safety

Needs: 2. Similar story to CB. Probably not going to be a massive class after 2023 was big and highly rated (hello, Keon Sabb and Zeke Berry). Still, it's a good idea to take two guys per year given that there are (normally) two safety positions on the football field.

What I wrote in January 2022: Ron Bellamy is a Louisiana guy and he's put two Louisiana safeties near the top of the board. Both seem possible, but neither are going to be easy. Below that, only Kenton Kirkland could be seen as someone in a truly good spot, but that is nowhere near approaching commitment either. We're still learning a lot about these recruitments and will surely learn more over the next few months.

What I wrote in April 2022: Another positional coach change here, as Jay Harbaugh is now in charge of safeties, with Bellamy flipping to WR. Harbaugh is a fine recruiter, but it's taken him a little bit to get going. A couple guys on here have picked other schools and a few other names have been added to the board since Jaybaugh took over, but not much movement yet (still).

Latest: There is no real action among true safeties right now, with the DB class likely to be very small between corner and safety. The three corners listed in the above section are all more likely than anyone here.

Best Guess: Look at corner.

Targets
Player State Stars Schools Y/N Summary
Kylin Jackson  LA **** LSU Picked LSU
Dwight Bootle FL *** Nebraska DiCaprio's bro. Picked Nebraska
Kenton Kirkland FL *** FSU Picked FSU
DaKaari Nelson AL **** PSU Visited 11/27, picked PSU
RJ Jones CA **** Cal Friend of David Long. Committed to Cal 2/4/22.
Makari Vickers  FL **** Oklahoma Picked OU
Jeremiyah Love MO **** Notre Dame Picked ND

Specialist

Needs: 1. No specialists in the 2022 class, following Tommy Doman Jr. in the 2021 class. Probably a good idea to take a kicker or a punter.

What I wrote in January 2022: Ann Arbor Huron kicker Adam Samaha was the first commit in this class, committing back in November. No reason to construct much of a board after you get a highly touted kicker, especially since they're probably only taking one guy. There's not much recruiting info on specialists, even if we wanted it anyway.

What I wrote in April 2022: No change and there shouldn't be.

Latest: No change and there shouldn't be.

Best Guess: Samaha and that's it.

Commits
Player State Stars Schools Y/N Summary
Adam Samaha MI ***** Michigan Hello. Local kicking stud.

Athlete

Needs: --

Latest: We are creating this positional group because Michigan has taken one commit here in Kendrick Bell, yet to have a specified position, and because Nyckoles Harbor is increasingly best classified as an athlete. He seems like he may play multiple positions, possibly on both sides of the ball, in college, so marking him as an ATH is the best way to describe him. Bell may end up at a WR and committed very recently while the Harbor chase is in the middle stages of a marathon process, although Michigan does appear to have a consensus lead at this time.

Best Guess: Bell and then maybe they get Harbor.

Commits

Posted a couple times that it absolutely did. Straight from the mouths of coaches of some of the kids on the lists above. That is being hammered by every coach fighting UM for a kid and it's working.

Further, I've heard a lot about ND and even MSU outworking UM on the trail. All across MI and OH specifically. My first comment on it was right after the Harbaugh-NFL thing and the word I used was "grim". If there is a class that may have to be won through season success or outright bought using NIL nearing signing day, this seems like it. It's not going well right now and that's at least 90% on Jim.

Also not great: the number of targets who have picked ND.  I expect to win half those recruiting battles; at least, it has seemed that way over the years to me.  So great season + NFL dalliance + some coaching changes (that seem for the better) = crappy recruiting class.  Disappointing.

Agreed. In the moment I want to believe Cade is 100 for the team, but at the end of the day he wants to play. I went to UCF for college so I was really surprised Milton left for FSU and now Dillon Gabriel is at Oklahoma. But at the end of the day, with NIL now, its a business decision. I still see Milton ending up a coach though.

Can we think of any Nefarious Eduardos (at any point during the recruiting cycle) who ended up coming to M over the years? Maybe it's just the BPONE-ness of the fanbase, but it's easy to think of lost Happy Teeth or Mr. Blues, but not the inverse.

My gut tells me the 2022 class may be the best source for some of these (e.g., Walker, Clemons, Sabb, etc.), but it would be interesting to know how many unexpected recruits we tend to land.

As far as Moore, has there been any rumblings about a connection to OSU outside of being from Ohio? I forget who was the last 5* QB from the state of Michigan (Shane or Devin I'm assuming), but yeah... it would be quite a let down to let him get away. Also how strong is the current pipeline to MLK?

After graduating college in 2020 seeing images of these recruits makes me feel so old lol. The main image of Patrick Barron I swear looks like a 12 year old kid.

Notice how few (state of) Michigan guys are in these lists and you get a sense of one of Michigan's "structural" disadvantages. (There may understandable reasons in some cases, like long-time MSU leans or guys who mostly grew up in other states.)

4 star DL from Camden, SC that just got offered yesterday.  ND had previously offered, so likely was on Elston's radar.  Looks like SC would be the team to beat so far.

It's crazy how few MI and OH players are on these lists.  Seems like the 80s, 90s and early 00s hey days before the The Dark Times it was almost all MI and OH players.

1. Is Francis Mauigoa off the board at OT? That would be a disappointment.

2. It'd be cool to have a safety class of DaKaari, Zahbari, and Makari.

Really feels like every player we led for early ND has jumped on. Wtf are they telling/giving recruits?

I don't want to be downer, but I don't know how anyone can be optimistic about this cycle at this point. Between both coordinators leaving and Harbaugh's NFL flirtation, we've lost like all momentum we had

Notre Dame was very close to making the playoffs this year. They have been there before and have an easier path to get there most years. They have a near identical record to us during Harbaughs tenure and I think, in recruits eyes, just got an upgrade at HC. It also happens to be an excellent academic institution and a historic football program...But South Bend is a shit hole.

Marcus Freeman is young and energetic and has the new coach smell, while still running a program that has had a lot of success recently + the academics. I am a bit skeptical that they are going to hang on to a top 3 class, but there's no denying the progress the Irish are making on the trail right now.

I know it's a long way to signing day. But isn't it odd that football recruiting seems to be in the toilet after our best season in 25 years?

Recruits like to see consistency of schools winning the conference titles and making the playoffs on a regular basis.  MI did it last year, but will need to win more B1G championships and appear in the playoffs several times over the next five to ten years to see more high level recruits committing.  They also keep an eye on the NFL drafts and look for who is being drafted out of the schools that are recruiting them.
