Good for him. Wish him luck in this -- not an easy task.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
Hope eventually he gets back to MIchigan
January 12th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Sucks. But good for him if the Blue does run that deep. He's obviously been irresponsible, but it shows a lot of character if he wants to fight his way back.
Edit- Shows a lot of moxie.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
oye. i don't think we have any precedent for that sort of thing. we can all hope that it works out, but it sure doesn't seem good. really nice kid, but you have to put in the work.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
This happens more than you think to the general student population. I know a few people who had to leave for a semester and go to community college to prove that they would focus on school. I know of at least two who were re-admitted to U-M, others were less motivated and never came back to U-M.
Obviously, this means that you have already done the "academic probation" thing and that U-M has already given you your "last chance". If Tate is serious about coming back to U-M, it is possible for him to wear the winged helmet again.
January 12th, 2011 at 10:22 PM ^
Don't quote me on this, but the first semester below a 2.0 you get put on academic probation. If you don't get off of it the next semester, they kick you out. So does that mean he failed summer and fall? Ouch!?
January 12th, 2011 at 5:48 PM ^
who took this route and came back more motivated than ever.
Hope the same for Tate.
January 12th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
That would be me, too. Except I didnt have to do community college.
From the time I finished my BS degree at Michigan to the time I graduated with a PhD from Texas, I only received 2 B's--the rest were A's and A+'s.
I was definitely motivated by the second chance.
I see Tate back on the team in a year.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
What ever happens to Tate I wish him luck and thank him for the memories. Hopefully it all works out for him.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:54 PM ^
+1 Couldn't agree more. I hope it works out and am glad that he's not taking an easy way out.
January 12th, 2011 at 6:13 PM ^
FYI I'm taking the easy way out for him, sources say.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Looks like we'll get to see what his level of motivation is. Situations like this can make or break somebody. If he mans up and does the work to get back, he'll be better for the experience. Hope he pulls it off.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
I hope he is not doing this for football - I think that train has left.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
why? if he can be re-admitted there's no reason why he can't play.
January 12th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
and his teammates have 6 months or more practice, game experience, etc.
What exactly do you think he will contribute next January? Hoke is going to put him in above Denard and Devin?
He is a nice kid but he should get a degree and not worry about football.
He's got moxie and gave Michigan a lot of good memories but he probably will never play again.
January 12th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
I don't know but that's a real nice ski mask.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
I hear that WCC is looking for a QB.....or is that a BBQ place closer to campus. It's definitely one of those.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
But I'd *love* for someone to ask him why he made the comment about how hard it was for a Michigan football player to flunk out at a time when he *had* to know he had flunked out. That was odd.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
Tate, work your a-- off and get back to Michigan to get that degree! Its definitely worth it, football aside.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
He's a good kid. He's done some dumb shit.
Hopefully he learns from it, and becomes stronger for it.
Go Tate go. We hope you come back.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:48 PM ^
no matter how it ends up. Go Blue kid
January 12th, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
Good for him! Know a few duders from college who took the same route.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
Won't be easy. Wishing Tate well.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
He's still a true sophomore, so he's probably still filling out his core curriculum. There are a lot of community colleges from which U-M will accept credits for core classes. As long as he puts his nose to the grindstone, no reason why he can't do well in those classes and get readmitted. It'll take work, but so does football. I'm guessing it's more a time management and discipline issue for him than anything related to ability/intelligence.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:50 PM ^
so will he back before the season starts? I thought JC credits didnt count.
January 12th, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
The honor points don't transfer from a community college, but credits do count, yes.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:51 PM ^
Hope Tate can make it back into The University of Michigan
January 12th, 2011 at 4:51 PM ^
I hope Tate gets his academic act together and will be back at U-M at some point.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:51 PM ^
You have a ton of people pulling for you.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:55 PM ^
is WAY more important than a couple more years of football. I hope he makes it back. We're oh-for-Forcier now.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:59 PM ^
Get your life back on track. You're a good kid.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
you'd be amazed how easy it is to get re-admitted to U of M.
Especially when the new head coach can really use your skill set.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:02 PM ^
Best of luck.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:04 PM ^
Kudos if this is true. This is a tough and long road but if he is willing to do it I wish him the best of luck.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:05 PM ^
Now he'll NEVER stop and chat with me in the cafeteria. Oh well.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:06 PM ^
So that whole heartwarming story right around Christmastime where everything seemed to be going so well . . . just how old was the interview Angelique did for that one?
January 12th, 2011 at 5:23 PM ^
Which I believe Tate attended prior to being sent home. Either that, or Angelique is cribbing from Mitch Albom.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
will be Tater's greatest comeback yet.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
Good luck Tate.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
Is he on probation or did he actually, fully, flunk out? UM has a pretty standard policy (or at least did way back when) of putting students with low grades on probation then if they don't improve enough to have them take some time off. You don't have to go through full admissions process to return, just write a letter explaining your new situation and what your plan is for returning to success as a student. Very often, kids go to a community college or smaller satellite school and re-learn good study habits in a less pressured environment then return. Often successfully. Seems to me that's what we could be looking at here.
Not that I have any actual knowledge of Tate's situation, of course.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
Him and Conway can develop solid QB/WR chemistry.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
That sucks. I understand how it can happen. Being a student athlete (attending practice, film and classes) at a not so great academic university like michigan is tough, but doing it at Michigan is even tougher. I hope the best for him.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
is this something where he could be back for fall? like if we goes to community college for spring and summer classes, could this make him eligible for fall?
January 12th, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
It is probably at the discretion of his program director or counselor.
My friend who flunked out had to do a year of community college before they allowed him back in. Then he came back on a mission, and finished like 45 credits in the next year to graduate.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:34 PM ^
Whatever ends up happening, I wish him luck. In the end if it is not to be with Michigan, I hope he finds success where he is happy.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:35 PM ^
If this is true and he does it Tate will become my alltime favorite Wolverine bar none the day he gets back in.
I dont care what anybody says...to go through what he will have to face just to get back on the team will show me that Tate is as Blue as Blue can get.
Go Tate....I'm pulling for you.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
I have been calling this since last winter since he was in chem 125. Tate is a smart kid that just likes to screw off too much. I wish the best for him. Jason is still in graduate school at Michigan and should provide a decent role model. Good luck Tater!
January 12th, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
I hope my "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Forcier" shirt doesn't become retro-ironic-cool.
January 12th, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
So he fails out of school, doesn't come to captain's practices in the off-season...Even though you love to have the talent, he doesn't deserve to be a Michigan Faithful.
