Hello Brady Hoke?
Same guy that broke the story that RR fired is now saying Hoke to be named coach.
Here we go.
Edit: Additional information - Ryan Ermanni (Fox 2 Detroit) reports on ESPN 96.1 that Brady Hoke will be hired as next coach, and Harbaugh was never seriously considered.

Anybody know what Brady's personality is like? Because Brady kinda looks like Wayne Fontes.

You have a link? I would like to read it, not that I don't trust you cuz I think Hoke is going to be our guy.

NO NO NO!
January 4th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
So I hear Hoke has a pass-heavy spread offense.
Out of Denard & Devin, who the crap is going to throw the ball a lot? I don't think we should even risk it with Tate because of his academics & such. Obviously he could adjust his system but we'll see.
January 4th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
And give the guy a chance. If it is Hoke, welcome back. And we'll judge you on Year 3. Good luck, and Go Blue

January 4th, 2011 at 3:27 PM ^
I'm hoping this isn't true. This would mean that both Harbaugh and Miles didn't want to come to Michigan.
What's up with that?
January 4th, 2011 at 3:38 PM ^
...buyout is enormous. That's what they are saying
It's also believe Coleman never wanted Harbaugh here in the firstplace (probably because of his "academics" comments)
January 5th, 2011 at 10:18 PM ^
Everyone is saying the buyout for Les Miles is huge, but from everywhere I have seen it is $1.25 million. Brady Hoke's buyout is $1.5 million. Why don't we hear any concerns about his buyout?

Just said it word for word on ESPN news. "According to my sources, Brady Hoke will be the next HC at Michigan." -Ermanni
January 4th, 2011 at 3:33 PM ^
M fans are becoming so irrational. DB has done everything perfect so far. Got the big ten to keep the OSU game at the end of the year, kept most rivalries intact, has created a great out of conference schedule. How about we see what he has in store before we freak out. He has had months to plan this, we have to assume he knows that getting JH was not a gurantee by any means.
January 4th, 2011 at 3:33 PM ^
He only anticipates... This is not solid:
@espn961: Fox2 Detroit's Ryan Ermanni just confirmed on air with us that U of M has fired RichRod and anticipates Brady Hoke being hired.

never considered Harbaugh? Srsly??

January 4th, 2011 at 3:35 PM ^
telling us all that Harbaugh to Michigan was pretty much a done deal. So just don't believe this rumor.
January 4th, 2011 at 3:36 PM ^
Than Miles. I think Harbaugh's a bit of a diva and a self-promoter, but he doesn't appear to be the out-and-out grass-eating prick than Les Oversigning Miles is. Also: while the EDSBS nickname of The Human Rabbit Foot may be apropos for Miles, I don't have much faith in him as a coach. No fucking thanks.
I'm as biased and delusional as they come, but I'm starting to come around to the notion that Brady Hoke just might do some good things here. As someone else has said above, let's learn our fucking lesson from Rodriguez's tenure and give the guy a chance if he comes here.
In a lot of ways, Harbaugh's resume looks a lot like Rodriguez's did when he came here ... and Hoke's kinda looks like Bo's.
... at least that's what I'll be muttering to myself for the next couple of weeks if Hoke is the hire.

Just hearing this makes me want to Zoltan Mesko a puppy

... it's just a stop to refuel before heading to Palo Alto?
/dreaming

Well, if it's Hoke, let's get behind him. Maybe he is the choice that best guarantees that the transition won't be painful... And Denard doesn't transfer?
January 4th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
It seems like this "Hoke to Michigan" idea is a rumor. If this is true he has said he would coach at Michigan for free. That alone doesn't make him a good choice but at least it shows passion for the program. I'll be interested to hear DB's reasoning if this is the case.
Also, a lot of people have been saying a primary reason for RichRod not working out is a large portion of the fan base did not support him from the beginning. Let's not make the same mistake twice and give our full support to whoever is our next HC.
The position and assistant coaches could also make a huge difference as we've seen with the past two years of Gerg unfortunately.
January 5th, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
why wait until today to fire Rich. SDSU played Navy on December 23rd. If Harbaugh was never really considered, then the firing should have been at least Sunday, if not a month ago.
Either Harbaugh was considered and turned us down, and Hoke is option B. Or Hoke is not it, yet ...
January 4th, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
I'd rather have Wayne Brady than Brady Hoke. Yeah he might make Bryant Gumble look like Malcolm X but he's got those hidden street smarts.
January 5th, 2011 at 7:13 PM ^
And you know Wayne Brady won't put up with no fools.

So it was our choice to take a guy who is under .500 in the MAC/MWC over a guy who took a 1-11 power conference team to #4 in the nation and spanking winners of ten straight in the BCS? That is so dumb that I can't even stand it.
But, as has been said, if this is true, let's give Brady Hoke our support from day one. Part (but not all) of the reason that RR failed was that he didn't. And so I'm all in, even for an absurd coaching choice.
January 4th, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
Why all the negativity?
Even if it is Hoke (and nothing's official yet), he may be a great coach. He turned Ball State into a 12-1 team and turned SDSU into a 9-4 bowl winning team with all four losses 5 points or less (including a 5 pt loss to #3 TCU at TCU) to decent teams.
I would love Harbaugh but he has other great options and if he chooses one of those other options, it's not the end of the world.
January 4th, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
The man who is "not an option" is now the only option.
January 4th, 2011 at 3:53 PM ^
there goes our recruiting class. No, not all of them, but some will leave, and it will be very difficult to convince those on the fence to come aboard. Why? if you were a recruit who has already verbally committed or has UM on your short list, your first reaction to this news is going to be, "Who the hell is Brady Hoke?" Until a month ago, i bet none of these kids had ever even heard of him. I have no idea if he will be good or bad for the program in the long run, but I guarantee it will not be good in the short run - which, by the way, is all that RRod's tenure was - a short run. Hiring a new coach in January is stupid. I don't care how smart everyone thinks DB is - it is just stupid. Lotsa luck, Hoke. I hope you are given a little more time than RRod.

So, the flight from Ann Arbor to Miami that Tim tracked earlier is now headed for Van Nuys, California. This is near LA and nowhere close to Palo Alto (also a good distance from San Diego). So, can we please, please read something into this?

January 4th, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
Why would UM hire a guy with a resume that reads "Ball State, San Diego State" when there are many candidates out there with way better track records???

If not JH, why not a guy like Gus Malzahn? He runs the spread, can maybe bring some SEC defensive coaches, and recruit some southern great players...

I just feel I will be disappointed with anyone but JH, especially Brady Hoke.

With the players meeting delayed, here's to hoping the hoke rumor was a classic "Dewey defeats truman" blunder.

we can scoop Bud Foster from VT?
January 5th, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
I don't know, but I wish people would calm down a little about Hoke. No, he's not my preferred choice either. But people are talking about him the same way they did about Mike DeBord three years ago, which is unfair. DeBord was a disaster at CMU and got fired; Hoke was a success at Ball State (it took a few years, but he did it) and got another job, where he again appears to be succeeding. Now, he's still pretty early on in his career trajectory and yes, he's never coached at a BCS school. Yes, his career winning percentage is still below .500 - but I expect him to bring it above that mark in 2011, assuming he stays at SDSU. I agree that his résumé isn't as good as RR's was three years ago. But sometimes you have to gamble. Three years ago, Jim Harbaugh was 4-8 at the D-I level and was completely off our radar.
Hoke is a guy on an upward career trajectory. He also knows this school and program intimately, having worked here for Lloyd Carr. He would likely have Carr's overt support, which is not a small consideration. I don't think he should be anything more than a fallback option, but if it happens, give him a chance. He might work out.
January 5th, 2011 at 8:13 PM ^
It doesn't sound like the coaching search is anywhere near over. I can't even begin to imagine what the media will come up with during this long drawn out process that is sure to be full of tight-lip service from DB.
January 5th, 2011 at 8:32 PM ^
Both Harbaugh and Miles are very likely out of the question. Both have found their success elsewhere, and there's not much they can accomplish at Michigan that they haven't done where they are now.
I would be happy with Brady Hoke. He's an up and coming, defense-first guy who will have his goals set at Big Ten championships first. He runs a spread so he can still make use of the current offensive roster. He'll be hungrier for success than either Harbaugh or Miles.

Also, watching some youtube of SDSU. They run a variety of formations on offense, with the QB both under center and shotgun, and it looks like different offensive mentalities are deployed depending on the opponent. For the Missouri game, they were primarily under center and ran a power run game, whereas for the Air Force game they ran 4 receiver sets, were in the shotgun, and, get this, ran the spread. Interesting.
