A New Tradition
In an effort to keep the moderators from pulling their hair out we've gone back to semi-lockdown, where you need 500 points to start a thread and 100 points to leave a comment. Things will return to normal Monday whenever I remember to change the settings back.
Yes, this is the same thing that happened after last year's incredibly depressing loss to a weak opponent on Halloween weekend. Here is a kitten:

my post was blocked last night - would've hated myself reading it this morning.

several others wish theirs were blocked.

Preemptive strike? I haven't seen any really bad threads yet.
Also - word on the streets (twitter) is that Bruce Tall is the new DC - http://twitter.com/#!/Victors_Valiant

Unsubstantiated rumor is unsubstantiated.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:11 PM ^
A friend of mine (former team manager) told me the same thing about Bruce Tall.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:15 PM ^
Unsubstantiated rumor begins to gain steam.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:18 PM ^
Adding fuel to the fire, I googled "Bruce Tall" and learned that Bruce Springsteen is 5'10".
October 31st, 2010 at 4:36 PM ^
That according to Rivals.com and Celebheights.com
November 1st, 2010 at 12:54 AM ^
Maybe he can come play corner for us. He likely has eligibility left and has a good motor. Anyone know how his pad level is?
October 31st, 2010 at 4:46 PM ^
If you would've scrolled down a bit farther you would have noticed that Bruce Willis is also 5'10" tall. Conspiracy anyone?
October 31st, 2010 at 6:34 PM ^
I give that 3 fakes.
Also: 40 time?
October 31st, 2010 at 4:25 PM ^
or a stop gap until we can find a truly great DC? I mean, if RRod is trying to prove how loyal he is to his guys, he may be paying for that loyalty with his job.
At least it is better than nothing, I suppose.
October 31st, 2010 at 5:02 PM ^
"Speculation that Coach Tall will take over the DC job, if true he is a very good coach."
So he's only a good coach if he's promoted? And he'd be promoted for being a good coach. Whoa, circular.
October 31st, 2010 at 5:30 PM ^
Take the derivative of the top and bottom and then re-evaluate.
October 31st, 2010 at 3:59 PM ^
...is a good idea.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:02 PM ^
White kitten seems like a sub-par selection this weekend.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:11 PM ^
I can understand why you might disagree with a white kitten, but that is a super adorable kitty.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:36 PM ^
Surely it is but there are so many adorable non-white kittens...
October 31st, 2010 at 7:12 PM ^
any kitty will do.
October 31st, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
white kitty's all we got. all the others transferred, went pro, or blew out their paws
October 31st, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
You forgot about the kitties that Rivals and Scout said were lions and tigers but ended up being Bill the Cat. Ack.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:13 PM ^
Censorship at its finest
October 31st, 2010 at 4:26 PM ^
whoa whoa whoa let's hear more about these goddamn Bruce Tall rumors. If true it's the best thing to happen to Michigan football in two years
October 31st, 2010 at 4:30 PM ^
seems like an act of desperation, JB.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:53 PM ^
are you referring to JimBob or Justin Bieber? Or both?
October 31st, 2010 at 4:33 PM ^
What is Bruce Talls stature, this has heighten my senses.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:34 PM ^
Ok I'm in the dark....what is the Bruce Tall rumor all about?? Co-DC or something??
Most importantly is does the man like Kittens??
October 31st, 2010 at 4:43 PM ^
A "connected" Rivals poster stated that Gerg will be demoted and Tall will act as DC, with a new DC currently being lined up to come in next year or as soon as a bowl game, who will make people happy. The popular guess is Mike Trgovac.
I have no idea how credible the dude is.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:45 PM ^
Same board is shooting around Mike Trgovac as the target candidate. I don't know.
If GERG was retained and demoted I'm sure he would command the respect of his positional players.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:58 PM ^
Thanks for the info. If it is Trgovac, good luck to him. Glad he is a Michigan Man.
October 31st, 2010 at 5:08 PM ^
He's a 4-3 guy isn't he? As a personal preference I like the 4 man front better than the 3. Obviously any scheme can work if executed properly with the right players, but for some reason I really like the 4-2-5 much better than the 3-3-5. I guess we'll soon find out if the rumors are true, and honestly, I kind of hope they are (nothing against GERG, I just haven't felt good about his coaching ability since we hired him, despite trying to give him the benefit of the doubt over and over).
October 31st, 2010 at 5:22 PM ^
I'm sure RR will mandate that he runs a 3-3-5, because that's TEH BEAST DEFENZ EVA DUDZ!!
October 31st, 2010 at 6:57 PM ^
I know arod said it with some sarcasm, but this is kind of a concern. Remember the sudden switch to 3-3-5 before Purdue and such. I think GREG is the main problem. He did poorly with 'Cuse and he is doing poorly here. However I have to wonder what percentage of the problems come from RR messing around in the DC's turf.
It would explain why Schafer and RR had problems. Schafer resented the meddling and fought back. Thus leading to Schafer leaving/getting fired. I don't want part of our new DC's job to be "working around the HC" as a daily task.
October 31st, 2010 at 7:12 PM ^
I kind of get the same vibe and I also think the assistants on D are RR cronies (which isn't inherently good or bad, just what the situation is) and if the guy from the outside has a different opinion than the assistants then the assistants go over the D-coord's head to RR since they're all buddies and RR tells the D-coord to go with what the assistants think.
This is obviously just conjecture based upon rumors and just musing about the staff situation, but I also wouldn't be surprised if there were some truth to it either. I agree that the DC needs to have complete control of the defensive side unless something unusual comes up. RR may be screwing himself over by trying to be overly controlling, and/or the D assistants being just as much at fault because they continually go over the DC's head. I've been patient due our current defensive roster's lack of talent/exp, but at the same time I just get the vibe that something isn't right and needs to change.
October 31st, 2010 at 7:17 PM ^
Also Gibson is the DBs coach and Assistant Head Coach. It's weird to me how in one sense he outranked the DC, yet he works under him. Sometimes I wonder if they use their ties to RR to simply go around the DC. We seem so disjointed on the field and I wonder if that is a reflection of off the field actions.
Like you said, we're young but with the talent we recruit we should at least be able to field a mediocre defense. The whole "we're young" thing doesn't really work an excuse when you get lit up by a young QB.

Nothing against GERG either... just noticed that Syracuse is 6-2 with Scott Shafer though.
October 31st, 2010 at 7:13 PM ^
that Rodriguez and Shafer just didn't get along for whatever reasons. It had less to do with his coaching than battling egos. Boss wins, subordinate loses.
I'm glad Shafer is doing well at Syracuse.
October 31st, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
I agree and I'm glad to see Shafer do well. He was pretty excited to come to Michigan, his family was too, and then, well, nevermind.
I was just sayin.
However, regardless of "boss wins subordinate loses" I think it illustrates coaching counts. I expect to get negbanged from the "give-RR-a-chance-give-him-time-to-install-his-system-he-doesn't-have-all-his-players-yet-do-you-want-to-set-back-the-program-more-years" crowd for that last statement.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:50 PM ^
Thank God, I don't need the dread of other poor souls to pile onto my own.
October 31st, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
I don't know how tall Springsteen is, but I'd advise GERG to avoid looking for houses in Ann Arbor. Might want to rent.....

slow down there champ, many perfectly reasonable posters don't need a 5000 point threshold to prevent them from making threads. A significant percentage (not the majority but significant) of posters are above that number and still dumb

Michigan beat msu is soccer 3-2 in OT
Michigan hockey also beat Ferris 3-2..... so yay?
October 31st, 2010 at 8:35 PM ^
Not only did they beat MSU in soccer, but they left several MSU players prone on the field in despair. Srsly. they were just laying out there in total misery while the student section went nuts and the entire team started dry humping each other in joy and I smiled with grim, grim statisfaction.

Not all is glorious on the ice, either. At least all 14 of us at Yost saw a uninspiring win. :)
