Mallet vs Alabama
Somewhat off-topic, but Since college football is completely on topic, Mallett is tearing up Alabama. He looks mobile and precise against a somewhat solid, yet un-tested, defense. I was holding my opinion on him until this game, but a few recent passes are continuing to sell me.
While I expect the nastiness response, how would he have done in a Carr-type offense for the past few years?

This is not semi OT. This is 100% OT. Ryan Mallet does not play for the University of Michigan.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:35 PM ^
It's still a college football game consisting of a former michigan player, calm down.

College football is topical, yo

I believe '08 might have been pretty rough on him (assuming a straight substitution for Threet / Sheridan). He would've gotten them some more wins, though.
To put this another way, Arkansas isn't a chump team. They get lots of good recruits.

Really guys, there is an afternoon games thread for a reason. Yes, he is tearing it up. I'm tempted to give a pass on the neg since you put forth a question at the end instead of just an observation on a nationally televised gme between two top-10 teams that pretty much everone is following, but from the looks of it you're asking a double hypothetical: for one, what if Mallett was still here, and then what if we still ran Lloydball.
I'm only concerned with offenses that are run at Michigan.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:02 PM ^
Yes, it was an individual question that would have gotten lost in the afternoon thread. But, I should have been more understanding of a drunk MGoBlog board after a win...
September 25th, 2010 at 6:04 PM ^
Or just that anyone with an opinion of anything after a game seems to always start a new thread about it and it floods the board.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:11 PM ^
If it would have gotten lost in the afternoon thread, maybe it wasn't that interesting/important of a question in the first place. Sorry if it comes across like I hate you, but I really really hate you.
/just joshing you

I care about what might have happened if Kennedy hadn't been shot why?

I'm with JClay, that actually sounds fascinating. I'm writing into The History Channel right now.
September 25th, 2010 at 11:02 PM ^
So that's why he didn't play in the fourth quarter.
September 25th, 2010 at 5:51 PM ^
Pro-tip. The MGoBoard has a button to go back pages. There's a thread on the 2nd page called, "hate-alabama/root-mallet-thread."
September 25th, 2010 at 5:51 PM ^
Probably not as well as Denard has done in the RR offense, but neither would compete for all the marbles with the current defense.
They're both phenomenal players in their own right, and 1-2 in Heisman hype at the moment. Wish them both the best this season!
September 25th, 2010 at 6:36 PM ^
Your edit is all wrong. College football ouside of Michigan is off topic during the season. You should've switched it to "OT."
September 25th, 2010 at 6:42 PM ^
may have just handed Denard the edge in the Heisman race with that interception.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:42 PM ^
blow up underway
September 25th, 2010 at 6:42 PM ^
Mallet is not making the easy throws. Badly overthrown ball on the interception. And then when he threw the interception he just started complaining to the ref about some foul that I didn't see.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:43 PM ^
That pick he just threw can't help, unless it allows bama to score, take the lead, and set up a come-from behind drive. He does that, and he's back up at the top of the list with Denard.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:47 PM ^
Even if Mallet leads a TD drive here to win he is not Heisman worthy. Yes, he's had a bunch of drops but he's just not all that.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:49 PM ^
loses the game, but I don't think Mallet will win this game.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:54 PM ^
NOT!
He would have been awesome with Scot Loefler's oversight. I don't know who is coaching him now...but his throws were not sharp (and receiver's dropped a few to boot) but the INTs.
No Heisman. Too bad they couldn't get it done here. Alabama will lose a game thorugh IMO, McElroy is not a great either.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:51 PM ^
Well, so much for that. Cost of having a gunslinger and all. I'd guess Ingram would be more of a problem than Mallett from here on out.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:50 PM ^
Boom! Self Malleted
September 25th, 2010 at 6:50 PM ^
Well Mallet, there goes your Heisman bid.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:50 PM ^
Good-byeeee Heisman...
September 25th, 2010 at 6:51 PM ^
That's the Mallet I remember. 3 INTs today, and the last two were pretty bad.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:51 PM ^
are rooting for Alabama. They so don't want their number 1 darlings to go down its really pathetic.
September 25th, 2010 at 7:01 PM ^
Ha! I just said the same thing to my roommate. Its as if the world may end if a team from the SEC isn't #1 in the country.
Greg mcelroy still hasn't lost since 8th grade. quite a little streak there....
September 25th, 2010 at 6:54 PM ^
OH NOES! 2 extremely costly late picks. WOW!
This should obviously make Denard's run to the Heisman that much easier! /s (maybe)
September 25th, 2010 at 6:56 PM ^
Still one tiny chance....
September 25th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
Srsly go for it. Arkansas will just screw it up again.
September 25th, 2010 at 7:04 PM ^
September 25th, 2010 at 7:07 PM ^
... what I freaking meathead Mallett is.
But then RichRod definitely knew it--as did Lloyd.
Mallett has Ryan potential alright--as in Ryan Leaf. And to think some on this board said they'd rather have him than Denard.
And Alabama? The stupid Wildcat?
I can't wait until 2012. Hopefully we can play them before then...
September 25th, 2010 at 7:37 PM ^
Ah...there you are....Arkansas...Boom Malletted!!
September 25th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
more like Ryan Mallett got "Vinopaled"
September 25th, 2010 at 7:43 PM ^
Those who transfer will be intercepted many times and drop (at least for a couple weeks) from heisman consideration.
September 25th, 2010 at 8:02 PM ^
Bursely was awesome!
September 25th, 2010 at 8:07 PM ^
September 25th, 2010 at 8:11 PM ^
3 INT and was shut down in the 2nd half. He'll bounce back. He's a true baller.
September 25th, 2010 at 11:46 PM ^
Why I'm happy he left M after his freshman year. I don't care how many yards or touchdowns he throws for, he chokes in nearly every big game Arkansas plays.
September 25th, 2010 at 8:19 PM ^
Mallett tried his best to throw it to Tacopants but the CB would not be denied.
September 25th, 2010 at 11:16 PM ^
Hmmm so i see Tacopants decided to go play for Arkansas today and join up with his former buddy Mallet. Tacopants is one interesting character....
