He’s the same guy that said they have silent commits preparing for other bowl games. I wonder when the B1G tampering investigation starts. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Totally agree on the angle…

Totally agree on the angle route here. But another interesting thing on this play is that you could justify throwing it to any of those guys besides DE and he doesn't let it rip to any of them. I'm not sure of the progression but he looks to be reading Roman and Loveland more than CJ or Morris, but it is surprising that JJ doesn't let it rip with a single high safety and coverage at this moment of the screenshot. Is that more the Iowa "mindset" where you just want to avoid turnovers and you win? Because based on pre-snap alignment and post snap coverage (and previous throws: Loveland TD against MSU and Roman against OSU) I am surprised he doesn't attempt a throw. He could back shoulder CJ, the guy covering Roman isn't looking and Roman will have outside leverage, Loveland has inside leverage and that safety won't get to the ball to impact the catch, and Morris won to the outside and has steps on his guy.

I'll take Dax and Mikey at…

I'll take Dax and Mikey at CB/NB over DJ Turner at corner with Mikey at NB. Also Bredeson at FB is obvious but should be included.

An underrated thing about…

An underrated thing about the KG play is that he looks like he tries to tackle the RB first by throwing Barrett into him.

....he's also friends with WM and was invited by him to dinner the Friday before the Indiana game.

I like this look but against…

I like this look but against all black it’s going to be annoying to have 5/6 helmets, jerseys, and pants be so dark.

he doesn't look nearly as explosive...... /ducks

The play before too when…

The play before too when Jabrill didn't run through Samuel and then Hurst over ran him.... Those three in a row.

The clip of Charlie Jones…

The clip of Charlie Jones making the catch over DJ Turner is not even close to OPI. He reads the ball better in the air, slows up a bit and makes the catch in front of him. Calling it "cheating" is something. The one against Rod Moore is the type of hand fighting that doesn't get called as Moore has a (left) hand full of jersey, but the real complaint here is Okie getting tackled by the LT.

It's the Big Ten…

It's the Big Ten Championship game??

Nico Jr. is on the team, we just don't throw to him (haven't needed to much I just hope he gets more of a chance...). Otherwise its Hutch, Ojabo, Bush, or Peppers for me.

The up close photo of Devin with Denard's smiling reflection in his sunglasses is everything.

How does compensating…

How does compensating student-athletes for their potential and performance in a multi-billion dollar industry negatively impact academic/research reputation of the university?

The play in question when… https://youtu.be/NnjAXbCkuug?t=6464

The play in question when Hoke and Mattison did the shrug was an inverted veer(?) that gave the RB (Rex Burkhead) the ball on the mesh, who then read the next defender and pitched outside of him to a the other RB (Ameer Abdullah). It was nifty as hell.

It’s the intentionally…

It’s the intentionally playing down a guy by refusing to read and Honigford as the outside WR in smash concept for me.

The head coach at the time…

The head coach at the time didn't want to recruit him because "he wasn't big enough and didn't hit it far enough."

Are you really skeptical…

Are you really skeptical about data from 4.7 billion people being vaccinated? How have mask requirements for unvaccinated gone?

How is Hinton elite? Barely…

How is Hinton elite? Barely got into games and when he did he was out of his gap or blown off the ball half the time. And how is Mazi? He didn’t even get in a game when you can play 4 while still redshirting. Not taking DT in 2 of the last 3 cycles is idiotic. We will continue to be blown off the ball by teams like Wisconsin and OSU 2-3 times a year as a result.

S&P+ is a prediction based…

S&P+ is a prediction based metric (that doesn’t account for injuries) not a resume/ranking metric. LSU’s win over Bama started to close the gap between them, but not all the way. Currently LSU would be favored by ~2 at home and Bama would be favored by ~3 at home.

All the talk of running up…

All the talk of running up the score and this game being a walkover are misguided.

How many consecutive losses…

How many consecutive losses to OSU are you okay with? I’m not trying to be snarky, I am truly wondering. Not many Harbaugh supporters are willing to answer that. Where do you draw the line? 5 straight? 6 straight? 7 straight? We’ve been competitive in 1 of 4 games against them. Maybe you could say 2017 as well but still lost by double digits. No blueblood would be ok with this let alone more losses. Bama wouldn’t allow 4 straight against Auburn. Georgia and Florida wouldn’t allow 4 straight to each other. Same with Oklahoma & Texas. Same with Ole Miss & Miss State. FSU & & Florida/Miami.

How many consecutive losses…

How many consecutive losses to OSU are you okay with? How many years without a B1G championship are you okay with?

Why should we extend a coach…

Why should we extend a coach that is 0 and 4 vs Ohio State (3 of the losses by double digits) and has never finished better than third in the east?

Yeah he’s been above average…

Yeah he’s been above average and really good at times. He turned around Stanford but never won the conference. He took the 49ers to the conference championship game 3 times and never won the big game. Sure, he brought Michigan back from the depths of Rich Rod and Hoke to a 9 win team. But he has also shown he has a ceiling and that championships are on the roof above.

Starting to think Jim…

Starting to think Jim Harbaugh just isn't a winner. Doesn't win road games, doesn't win rivalry games, doesn't win bowl games, doesn't win schematically (RPS). We see this from the players individually as well. We don't develop players and they don't play with confidence.

Why is it so hard to put…

Why is it so hard to put Mason in as a lead blocker behind Bredeson, Ruiz, & Onwenu when inside the 5 / short yardage. No one is stopping that. Instead we had 6 runs from inside the 5 that didn’t get in. Only plays that worked: 2 bootlegs, one play action scramble, and quick QB sneak.

The Packers vs Bears game…

The Packers vs Bears game wasn’t an inspiring offensive display last Thursday, but one part stood out in the context of this UFR. Anytime the Packers saw soft coverage in short yardage situations, Rodgers threw a quick ball near the line of scrimmage to pick up 5-7 yards. A bit worrying that we have shown time after time common sense doesn’t have a place in Harbaugh’s offense re: lack of Ben Mason behind Onwenu & not taking free yards when it’s there.

Nick Saban won a national…

Nick Saban won a national championship in his first four years at LSU. He did the same at Bama. Dabo finished first in his division twice in first four years and actually beat FSU & South Carolina. Brian Kelly took Notre Dame to the national championship in his third year. Mark Dantonio was 3-1 against Michigan in his first four years and had a shared conference title with an 11-1 regular season record in year 4. But yeah, it’s coming. Sure seems like it.

Hmm. He got rolled on hard…

Hmm. He got rolled on hard by Jeter. It looked like a classic ankle or knee. I just went back and rewatched the play a few more times. The leg still looks awkward but he may have caught his hand/arm on Jeter when he tried to brace himself going down. Either way, hopefully he and Dwumfour are both back soon if not next week.

I don't know if Kemp will…

I don't know if Kemp will miss time, but it was definitely his right leg they were concerned about.

Kemp was rolled into by…

Kemp was rolled into by Donovan Jeter. He fell into his right leg and Kemp went down very awkwardly as he was being pushed over his right side. It looked pretty bad.

Agreed

Co-signed by a non-revenue athlete. Legally it will get complicated to only pay football players but they should at least let them profit off their likeness to start. Autographs, commercials, etc. If they let all student-athletes profit of their own likeness and the market will take care of itself as far as who gets paid and who doesn't.

Film Room

I wish Harbaugh was doing the coaches' film room. I love that they include it as an option for the broadcast. Go Dawgs tonight!

DTs

The only true defensive tackles going into 2019 seem to be Solomon, Dwumfour, and Paea if we don't land Friday or another DT in this class. Jeter or Irving-Bey might slide inside but that is not a lot of depth for a team the fields 2 defensive tackles at least 50% of the time.

8

Nothing to do with his ability, 8 scholarship RBs seems like a lot. Also, wouldn't mind if we never ran wildcat/pepcat/evanscat again.

WR & DT

With many a rumor of a soon-to-be junior WR transferring, we definitely have to pick up at least one WR in this class. That would leave two upperclassmen WRs in 2018 and only six scholarship WRs total (not including Schoenle possibly getting a scholarship).

DT is a huge need as well. Right now there are seven on scholarship with Marshall, Mone, Dwumfour, Irving-Bey, Jeter, Paea (if he plays DL instead of OL), and Solomon. That would make for five non-freshman scholarship DTs in 2019 if they don't get a commitment in 2018.

Yeah, given the state of the OL and [lack of] discipline on the team, the holds against the offense aren't that surprising. Even still, the lack of holding when M has had Taco, Worm, Hurst, Glasgow, Gary, & Winovich rushing the passer feels egregious.
