I have 4 for sale on seatgeek.  Section 447 Row 2.  I got them from the ticket office for some friends that have now backed out.  They are listed for $400 each.  If someone wants to work out a deal I am open to that.  Please email me mporter2183 @ gmail.

Couple things.

Michigan…

Couple things.

Michigan banked 2 scholarships when Jalen Wilson decommitted and went to Kansas.  They only have 11 scholarship players this year.

Teske and Simpson are out of eligibility.  Austin Davis is a Senior that would be eligible for a 5th year, but could also grad transfer. So at a minimum, without any transfers, Michigan has 4 scholarships, and very likely will have at least 5, possibly more if any attrition happens (i.e. Livers goes pro, someone else transfers, etc).

Next year's roster:

Guards: Brooks (Sr.) - DeJulius (Jr.) - Bajema (So.) - Jackson (Fr.)

Wings: Livers (Sr.) - Nunez (Jr.) - Wagner (So.) - Todd (Fr.)

PF / C: Davis (5th) - Castleton (Jr.) - Johns (So.) - Dickinson (Fr.)

Your most likely attrition is going to be the loss of 1 or more wings.  Livers could go pro (unlikely now with the injury). Wagner could blow up and go pro. Todd could opt to play overseas. Nunez could seek playing time elsewhere.

It would be recruiting negligence to not take another wing like Williams, especially a wing that is physically ready to play and will be able to come off the bench immediately.

Tom Izzo is Woody Hayes 40…

Tom Izzo is Woody Hayes 40 years later.  And it is going to end in exactly the same fashion.  He is going to lose it 1 day and do something that forces MSU to fire him.

Cool story alert... I was 14…

Cool story alert... I was 14 in 1998 when Michigan under first year coach Brian Ellerble won the inaugural Big 10 Conference Tournament.  Anyway I stayed after most games back then and collected every players autograph on the season schedule poster.  While I am waiting for tractor trailor to come out of the locker room I realize I am standing next to Steve Fisher.  So, I immediately say, "Coach, would you be willing to sign my poster?"  Couldn't have been a nicer guy.  Talked to me for 15 minutes about my interests not just in basketball but school and everything else. Personalized the autograph and addressed it to me.  Then when tractor trailer came out, I remember one thing.  Steve said to Robert, "We need to go out to dinner because I can buy you dinner now."  Anyway after all that I only had one more signature to get, Brian Ellerble.  I remember him looking at the poster and seeing that Fisher had signed it.  He literally paused, hesitated and then looked at me again before signing.  I would only come to understand that interaction later in life.  I still laugh about it every time I look at that poster.

Meant Columbia, SC not…

Meant Columbia, SC not Spartanburg SC

Every year I buy and usually…

Every year I buy and usually sell most of my NCAA Tournament tickets in an effort to get good seats to see Michigan or make money on what I think might be a desirable location. The key is to know which locations are desirable and which locations are not and that changes from year to year. What makes a location desirable is how many "good" teams could be placed at that location. It is more complicated than you think. For instance, 1st/2nd round sites always do better than regional sites in terms of making money. 8 teams are at a 1st/2nd round site, whereas only 4 at a regional site.  Resulting in as many as 6 or 7 teams within 500 miles of the 1st/2nd round site, whereas typically only 1-2 teams are within 500 miles of the regional site.  The only regional site that I have ever made money on was Indianapolis in 2014 and that was pure luck as Michigan, Kentucky, Louisville and Tennessee were the 4 teams and all within 400 miles of the location. I have since stopped buying regional sites.  As for this year, I bought Columbus (because I think Michigan will be there) and I bought Spartanburg, SC because I think Duke and North Carolina will both be placed there.  IME, only about 5 teams really move the needle and they are Louisville, Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Indiana.  Other teams that draw well locally are Michigan, Michigan State, Florida, Tennessee (think state schools with large fan bases that are placed in close proximity in a large city).

All that said, it comes down to who do you think will be placed in Jacksonville.  And what you have to do is project from the top down, because that is how the committe will do it.  They will take the tournament on the whole, seed it 1-68 and then work from the top down to place teams in a "geographically fit" location.  The key is 500 miles.  The NCAA has to pay for travel if a team is placed more than 500 miles from their respective campus.

My take is that Columbus and Spartanburg will be money makers.  Salt Lake City and San Jose and will be money losers.  Des Moines, Tulsa, Hartford and Jacksonsville will be toss ups.  Wherever Kansas lands will determine the Des Moines/Tulsa coin flip.  The thing about Jacksonville is that if Virginia stays on the 1 line, they will either be in Columbus or Spartanburg and could potentially bump North Carolina down to Jacksonville AND if North Carolina is a 3 seed and Kentucky is a 6 seed, look out, prices will sky rocket.

Most overrated is definitely…

Most overrated is definitely Ohio State. They won't make the tourney.

Think you nailed it. Would…

Think you nailed it. Would be shocked to see Gentry or Patterson go.  Mildly surprised to see Bredenson go.  Not surprised if Hill or Long go.  Shocked if Bush or Gary come back.

I have seen a lot of…

I have seen a lot of misinformation out there.  So let's clear up a couple things.  StubHub is THE LAST PLACE you want to buy these tickets.  They charge the buyer somewhere between 20%-27% markup on the tickets.  Ticketmaster is the OFFICIAL re-seller of Ohio State Tickets.  Try ticketmaster, the convenience fee is more in the 15%-18% range.  Ebay would be my second option.  Again, beware of seller history.  Third option would be Vivid Seats.  Keep in mind that StubHub does NOT have guaranteed tickets for Ohio State like they do for Michigan.  If your ticket is fake and denied entry at the gate, you will have to call StubHub and they will have to provide you with replacement tickets.  Use Ticketmaster for this game.

For every TFL, he had a play where he blew his assignment and gave up 10+ yards.  Not to mention the mind-numbing penalties, specifically the game in 06.  He was truly a jekyll and hyde player.

Little known fact.  Our fearless leader is 0-6 with his predictions against the spread over the last 6 games and 2-10 over his last 12, so SMU +35.5?

I am all for Beilein going to the pros if that is what he wants, but don't go to the Pistons, where a good coach will be fired in 3 years.

Regardless, happy he is back.  Go win it all next year!!!!!!!!

Better, but still flawed

Long overdue.  Some schools have been using this system for 10+ years.  It is still flawed.

They separate everyone by 5 minute increments.  Therefore, unless you have a whole day to devote to constantly hitting F5, you are only going to see a snapshot of what was really available in your "relative" time frame.  People who have more points but not as good of seats get screwed in this situation because you essentially get locked in to picking from the best availble at your time slot, when there could be better seats that open up a couple minutes/hours after your time slot when someone else moves.

A few suggestions

I like the NC years on the press box and the retired numbers.

I like painting the endzones blue, with lettering in Maize.

I can't believe I made it 112 comments and there were no suggestions of marshmallows.  At least bring it back for MSU/Ohio State.

I am also with the crowd that is done with bleacher seating.  I am paying thousands of dollars in Preferred Seat Donations to sit on a cold, hard bleacher.  Don't have to do every section, but at least sections 44, 1, 2 and 22, 23, 24.

sorta

one regular season title and 2 conference tournament titles.  Still the main point of his argument is the recruits that stay 4 years go to the Final Four.  Fails to mention that not one player on next year's team will have played in a sweet 16 game, let alone a Final Four.

I was at that game

He hit corner three after corner three.  Michigan football beat Wisconsin earlier in the day.  Nobody really cared about the basketball game.

Sample size

How many teams have done that?

How much talent did they have surrounding those 3 players?

MSU has McQuaid, Ahrens and Tillman plus the incoming class.

Not exactly a strong supporting group.

Mathews

Huge risk but a potential huge payout for Mathews.  He is getting older, and if next season does not go according to plan, it could be very harmful to his draft prospects.  However, if he develops under a traditional Beilein 2nd year player he could be a B1G POY candidate and possible lottery pick.

Michigan 30-1 to win it all

Feel like I should get in on that now. It's LOW even if Wagner declares. It's a steal if he returns.

One caveat

His defense better improve. Beilein showed this year with everyone, if you don't play D, have a seat and watch. Dejulius is going to be a better defender than Poole from the day he shows up. Not saying it's likely, but I could see a backcourt of Simpson/Dejulius logging some minutes if Poole can't stay in front of anyone.

I upgraded my seats

So now I have 2 in section 115, row QQ. Email me if interested mporter2183 @ gmail. I will be down on the river walk in 30 min. Go Blue!!!

slap the floor

Just wanted to make sure he could slap the floor.  That is Michigan State's calling card after all.

Bump

This should be bumped to the front page tomorrow.

Bar on Saturday?

Have we determined a "Michigan" Bar for Saturday?

all true

but Beilein had the wherewithall to fire his assistants after that 3rd season.  Just saying.

MTurner

MTurner took the tickets.  Sorry guys, but I wanted to make sure some Michigan fans got the tickets.  I figured best way was first response.  Go Blue!

it's all sessions

sorry.  little frustrated right now with the couple that backed out.  I have season tickets for both basketball and football, as do my parents.  These are the same tickets you would get through the university, both days. $385 all in.  I am going to San Antonio as well and can meet you down there to exchange the tickets.

I am in

Flying from Detroit on Friday into Dallas and renting a car to make the drive. Flights were ridiculous into San Antonio and Austin.

Request

$100 to anyone that scoops up a program and game ticket for me. Wish I could be there! Go Blue!!!

longest streak since...

2013 when Beilein's team won 16 in a row to start the season.
