Since Denard doesn't touch the ground when running, I'm guessing RUN RUN RUN. Seriously though, it better not rain, I went to the ND-Michigan game two years ago, and it was THE worst weather (for most of the week, let along most of the game.)
September 7th, 2010 at 9:57 AM ^
OSU '07 or NW '08 had worse weather.
September 7th, 2010 at 10:41 AM ^
I was at all three of those games... and in my life, I have never felt rain like the second half of the ND game. It rained 6 inches that weekend; that's just monsoonish. I struggled to walk up the stairs of the stadium because so much water was flowing down the stairs.
I fear no gameday weather forecast because I survived that game.
September 7th, 2010 at 11:09 AM ^
Yes, and it was like that for a week! And I drove through it to get to South Bend. Just bad.
September 7th, 2010 at 7:55 PM ^
Was a Monsoon of snow and rain. It was the most brutal thing I've ever seen. It was so unbearably cold...
The only thing we could possibly do was hand the ball off to Mr. Hart. Which not surprissingly was still very successful. If I'm not mistaken wasn't it also homecoming?
September 7th, 2010 at 11:13 AM ^
Those games were colder, but the '08 Notre Dame game was played in the same storm that dropped the highest single-day (midnight to midnight) rainfall in recorded history in Chicago. It was a monsoon that just didn't stop.

Purdue '95 takes the cake for me. Rain, freezing rain, and snow in the same game.
ED: and the game ended with Michigan winning 5-0. That's right, 5-0. Rarely much to get excited about, which only made it feel colder..
September 7th, 2010 at 1:05 PM ^
You got as soaking wet as in the ND game, but it was cold, and then about half way through, it all froze. So you were coated in ice. If there's every a worse weather game, I'm not sure I want to be in it. (And as comparison, how many people left all the other games listed on here because of the weather? There were NOT 100,000 in the Stadium that day, and if 25,000 made it to the end, that was a miracle.)
September 7th, 2010 at 9:24 AM ^
GR (WOOD TV) has the weather as 78 with a chance of rain (30%) later in the evening as does the South Bend station. For starters, never trust the Weather Channel. They are the TMZ of weather. Go with weather.gov or local news stations for forecasts.
September 7th, 2010 at 9:31 AM ^
Speaking of forecasts- I didn't want to pollute the board w/ a simple Q and A session, but can anyone point me to the standard game week posting schedule (i.e. when UFRS, previews, etc come out)?
As for the impact of this forecast, I'm pretty sure the importance of HOLD ONTO THE DAMN BALL just went up given 2 years ago in South Bend.
September 7th, 2010 at 10:37 AM ^
And you will like it.
September 7th, 2010 at 11:20 AM ^
Leftrare is right, but IIRC, UFR's are usually Wednesday and Thursday, and previews tend to start late Thursday afternoon and all through Friday.
September 7th, 2010 at 11:41 AM ^
This is what I was looking for. I couldn't remember the standard weekday schedule. The question was really if the unrelenting tedium of my day would get broken up by the glory of and UFR.

Cloudy with a 100% chance of flash dilithium.

is moved to Chewandswallow.
Also, that movie RUINED the book.
September 7th, 2010 at 10:51 AM ^
That book was always one of my favorites growing up, so I got sort of excited when I heard they were making a movie. The first time I watched the trailer online, for the first 30 seconds I thought I'd clicked the wrong link because there was no apparent resemblance to the book -- it had the same title, but it had a main character and a storyline that didn't exist in the book. I'm still mad at them for making the movie.
In summary: leave my childhood alone, Hollywood.
September 7th, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
That movie was so rediculously not like the book! I mean the movie was okay, but for God's sake... make a freaking movie like the book or else just say it's based off the book and call it something else.
I was very saddened. I felt like I was cheating out future generations of kids, who whenever they hear "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" they'll think of that stinking movie.

40% chance of showers, while Friday and Sunday are Sunny. That means it could go either way.
Rain scares me because of what happened 2 years ago.

I went camping this weekend (AFTER the watching game of course), and all week the forecast was showing sun. On Friday night the forecast changed to 50% chance of rain and the highs dropped by about five degrees, which let to a relatively damp and cold couple of nights.
September 7th, 2010 at 10:09 AM ^
This is a great opportunity to work on our ball possession skills in poor weather. Maybe even show people that this offense is even more devastating in bad weather?
Offenses always have the edge in bad weather if they go where they are supposed to go and do it fast.
Remember what Rich says: "play fast".
September 7th, 2010 at 10:28 AM ^
I'm sure they'll have the grass extremely long to slow us down. Good thing Denard's laces act as Weed-Whackers when he is running...
September 7th, 2010 at 10:32 AM ^
Although I would love for it to be mid-70s and sunny at kick-off, seeing Michigan win at Notre Dame, in any weather, is fine by me!!! Go Blue!!
September 7th, 2010 at 10:36 AM ^
does it always rain when we go down there??? Somebody tell McGuffie to hold onto the da-- oh, wait, scratch that.
September 7th, 2010 at 10:44 AM ^
I wouldn't be surprised if the ND grounds crew wasn't applying water to the field as we speak, sloppy field and grass 4 to 6 inches tall.
September 7th, 2010 at 10:56 AM ^
did not stop Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia (rain, sleet, snow) nor Brian Kelly at GVSU, CMU, Cincy (rain, sleet, cold) from putting up ridiculous yardage and points.
Both offense versions can tear it up on the ground, though Dayne Crist is not a comparable run threat to a Ben Mauk or Zach Collaros. He's a gimpier version of Tony Pike, Steven Threet.
September 7th, 2010 at 11:00 AM ^
The current track of Tropical Storm Hermine has it landing in Kansas early Thursday. So somewhere in the Midwest is likely to get heavy rain on Friday/Saturday.
September 7th, 2010 at 11:40 AM ^
How many games will the weather bail out our secondary this year? I'd take DRob vs their D in a monsoon. They struggled with Purdue's QB Marve getting outside in flawless conditions, so this could work out well.
September 7th, 2010 at 11:49 AM ^
I was waiting for someone to mention that bad weather probably benefits Michigan. Aside from slipping on cuts, why would rain and cold not benefit the running team?
September 7th, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
Defense is just as likely to slip on cuts, and the offense player knows where he's going. As long as it doesn't turn to mud I think it'll benefit DRob and our speedy backs.
September 7th, 2010 at 11:09 AM ^
I bet they don't cut the grass on the field at all this week. They will leave it long to try to slow down Denard. If it rains, it will also be somewhat slick. John Falk will be sure to bring several different options for cleats for the game. This is one instance where having the best equipment guy in the business really helps.
