Completely right...

That was a complete assumption, but I would be interested to see that data. I believe I'd be right about that.

My bigger point was Lewan = Great talent. I personally don't know if he was a correct pick for captain this year.

High School... Middle School...

If I understood the quote right, never before at any level had he been a captain. I'd say the majority of Mich. football players were captains in high school.

Extremely telling...

There was a quote from Lewan earlier this year where he admitted he was excited to be a captain because he had never previously been a captain on any level.

If that was really true, there is no way he should've ever been a captain this year.

There are two kinds of captains. Talent captains and leader captains. Ideally, a captain has both qualities but if you have to choose, "talent" does not match up to "leader" from a captain standpoint.

Michigan...

Michigan almost lost to Akron and UConn this year, and in 2006 was coming off one of the best regular seasons in school history.

I know we should roll them next year, but still.  Different teams also applies to Michigan.  More less, different coaches.

Thank you for settling my nerves on that thought process though.  :/

Kind of Serious Question

If the coaching staff gets outcoached in next year's season opener versus App State and we lose (God forbid), is that one of those "perfect storm" moments where not only does Hoke feel the fire from underneath his seat, but even Dave Brandon starts to feel the heat?

Dave Brandon has not done Hoke any favors the past few years.  Set us up for complete and utter disaster to start the season vs. Alabama and very well could be doing the same thing against App. State.

This is just all kinds of bad right now.  :/

This Game is Awesome

Michigan is SO young, even with a national title game appearance last year.  Win or lose everyone is going to gain great experience from today.

I say play Walton and Irvin as much as possible today, no matter how much they struggle.  It's so encouraging to see everyone doing what they're doing at the moment.  And Levert might end up being better this year than THJ was at any point at Michigan.  Not anything against THJ but if Levert is just so smooth at scoring.

Michigan Basketball makes me happy.  So, so happy.

Family

There's just a sense that he was part of the Michigan 'Family' which is so cool to me.

I love how he switched positions, earned respect, and from all accounts did everything the 'right way'.  And that respect earned him some amazing compliments and cool little stories at a tragic time.

Sad to see a life pass at anytime, but especially one so young.

I hope God blesses him.

All of These

There are so many more memorable individual pictures from this past year than I can really remember in the ten or so years since I've moved to Ann Arbor.

The only other clear cut memories for me were all of the pictures after The Game in 03' and the pictures from the celebration after the 02' Washington game.

Thanks everybody for posting these pictures!

Misspoke

By apology I should've said explanation.  When he explained that he loved the rivalry and would've been proud if LTT was a Buckeye and did it.

All I'm saying is that I think he's been sufficiantly and appropriately been chastised for his mistake.  He deleted his twitter.  And he's being made fun of on this blog, which I have no problem with.  I just don't think there's a need to take it past that point like some people were saying needed to happen.

He can now go away from my life and live his own miserable one as an obscure ohio fan (they all live miserable lives) whom I hope to never see or hear about again.

I promise to step off the soap box now... I just didn't like the tone this thread was starting to take.

Punishment

I'm going to go ahead and say that deleting his twitter and having a hate thread about him on a college sports blog is right on par with the punishment he deserves.  He said something extremely stupid, but there's no way it was serious in any manner.  He made a very poor joke in very poor taste.  That's it.

If you've never done something similarly stupid, go ahead and google bomb his name and whatever else you guys want to do.  But it's really sad that some people on this blog are so determined to make his life miserable.  I guarentee you it's already bad enough right now.

Are you serious?

The internet does not forget?  Give the man a break seriously.  He was really really really stupid with what he said but seriously?

Can we please not try and ruin a guy's life?  Everybody does incredibly stupid things in their life.  This is far from the worst thing I've ever heard someone do.

As long as he deleted it and apologized, let him live his life.  No need to go and ruin a guy's life.

This Thread

This thread needs to be taken down in my opinion.  This man did an incredibly stupid thing, we've all given him all the shit that he deserved, but there's no need to try and ruin a guy's life for all of this.  He deleted it, there's no need for people to be saying things that have been said on this thread.

Everyone makes mistakes, even grown men.  This is a mistake that warrented us making fun of him and calling him stupid and all of the regular things we do when the ohio stereotype is played out in real life.

But the guy is a real person, and I just don't like the fact that this could linger for him.  It was a tweet, it was really really stupid.  He deleted and apologized.  Lets please all move on and let him live his life.

Kent State's Head Coach

Scott Stricklin is the guy Michigan fans should hope and expect to get.  They guy knows how to recruit and develop stud pitchers.  And he can recruit with the best of them.  In a lot of ways he is kind of like Maloney.  I'm not sure about Maloney's track record at BSU before he came over other than he had a #1 overall pick in the MLB draft... but Stricklin just finished winning his fourth straight MAC tournament.

The last time a coach won a MAC tournament other than him was Coach Boss, who then took the job at MSU.  Stricklin can recruit and develop talent.  He is the guy all Michigan fans should be cheering for to get the job!  I was pleasantly surprised when he didn't get the OSU job a few years ago.

Jaron Stokes

Hopefully Jaron Stokes can help mentor him in some way.  BGSU is probably a good fit for him, they'll get him eligible and ready for 2013 I hope!

BG has turned a few JuCo recruits into real talent over the past couple of years, and I'm sure Greg Brown can do the same.

#12

The #12 was just for the year 2012 I believe because that DT we just offered got the same letter and tweeted something along the lines of... "I think I got a letter Shane was supposed to get".

SuperSim

The SuperSim is sooooo bad and that's why I can't stand to play NCAA 12.  I've been an OC for Michigan for four years in NCAA.  And the clock management issues/missed extra point rates are both so bad.  I don't understand how EA still hasn't fixed it after so many years :/

In-State Kids...

The roster is littered with in-state kids... like it should be...

But I think maybe coach maybe fooled himself by believing the Ann Arbor area is always filled with top notch recruits.

When he came to Michigan Zach Putnam was a local legend and the rest of that roster was filthy.  I really believe that was a once-in-a-generation group... That Ann Arbor Braves team was stacked from about a decade ago with Putnam, Avila, and a few other top ballplayers.

Just a thought.

The cover is very sweet

The cover is very sweet looking!  I am a fan of both RG3 and Barry... just kinda looks a little off that's all.

RG3's Head

Is it just me or is there a bit of a bobblehead effect with RG3 and is head?  It looks really disproportionate to his body.

Video Game people always photoshop those pictures so oddly, I can remember in NCAA Baseball 07 (I think) when the U. of Texas "T" on the batting helmet was no where near where it was supposed to be.

Woah.

That was amazing... I'm pretty sure I'm going to go show this to my girlfriend now.  I think she's actually going to be able to understand this.

Nice job!

Scoreboard 'maize'

Shouldn't the 'maize' on the brand new scoreboard tell us what Dave Brandon is thinking?  Obviously that thing looks like the 'maize' basketball uniforms we've been wearing and is a pretty good indication of the maize we will be looking at for all sports moving forward.

Am I right?

Thanks

I guess I'll wait until after the game and zoom in on pictures because I'm just having a hard time seeing them even when there are close ups.

I'm still a fan of stamping big old Roses on the shoulder pads.

Question on Wisconson Jerseys

Are they not actually wearing the 'Rose-Pedel' numbers on their jerseys?  If they are it is literally not noticable.  I'm kind of dissapointed I keep looking for a difference on the jersey and I just don't see it.

Am I just crazy?

What a crazy game.

There is so much bad football being played to begin this game right now.  It is brutal.  And holy cow is it just me or does Dan Hawkins sound/look like Frank Caliendo?  Dan Hawkins and Pam Ward are almost impossible to listen to!

But at least it's still cool that Wayne State is on ESPN2.

Awesome piece...

This is why I love mgoblog... anyone who reads this post has to like Michigan... at least a little bit.

Go Blue!

Bowling Green also has a new look....

Another MAC school also changed... this is the first year they've fully transitioned to the new logo as compared to the old one they used when they won the hockey national championship back in 1984.

Here's a commercial showing off the BG uni's...

I figure not too many people will be interested... but just in case lol.

I wish I was good at all this

I wish I was good at all this photoshop and .gif stuff.....

That being said... anyone wanna stamp Jim Tressel's face onto this guy right here in this video?

News Like This?

I will never ever neg anything like this.  If we want to make 100 posts about someone recovering from cancer it will never get old!

Phil Brabbs started my love of the Wolverines, he was from my dad's hometown and we had just moved to Ann Arbor the week before the Washington game.  I remember as a kid thinking it was soooo cool that some guy from Midland just hit the game-winning field goal.

I really hope everything goes great for him.  He's truely taken a scary thing and made nothing but positive out of it with the whole 'Dominating Cancer' stuff.

He is what a Michigan Man is all about!

I Love This Thread

It's awesome seeing all these fans.  Goes to show you that all Michigan fans are not all Detroit fans.  It's amusing because if we were on any other blogsite you guys would all hate each other.  But we gotta play nice because we all love us some Brady Hoke and Lloyd Brady =)

My Bad

I didn't mean to spew my annoyance about this at you... I copied and pasted that remark about the texting from another thread.

Major?

I mean... I don't know how old you are... but 234 text messages to 45 prospective athletes by one coach?  I know people in college probably send and recieve at least 100-200 texts a day if not more.

Thats... 5.2 texts to each person? Over how much time I wonder? And some probably responded so there was a quick conversation...

To be fair... I'd probably say on an average day I send about... 150-200 texts a day?  It's really not a lot at all.

I know it's illigal... but it's not exactly like texting is an obvious thing that Mike Leach would definitely know about, especially if it's only 234 texts by one coach.  If that's the reason we didn't hire him I'd be concerned about our program/fan base/decision makers.

To cross anyone off for something like this is stupid.  I'm not a Leach guy, but goodness... this is just stupid.

Agreed.

I'm not on the Leach bandwagon...

Just stating that the texting thing isn't a big deal IMO... in no way should that ever be "Major".

I Want To Neg

I had to hold off on negging this... because I was really just wanting to neg his face... then I realized he didn't write this. lol.

A Little Laughter?

I <3 this post.  Thank you TPryor for giving us your research and skillz!

I don't get why anyone would not like this thread lol.  With all the CC business isn't a little break from reality what we all need?

Good News?

You guys want to be happy???

Right here kids.  Look right here.

Lets not forget...

Any school that taught John Wooden how to play the game of basketball automatically gets +100 in the "tradition" department.

coolrom.com

place has so many emulators and such... I don't know if it has any legit ps1 versions...

But it got me pokemon red on my macbook for winter break last year... me and my roommate went back to our own hometowns for break and had a compitition to see who could have better pokemon when we got back.

And btw NBA 2k11 is currently killing me with the finals stuff.  The "My Player" is too awesome to pass up.

Underdogs

Underdogs still win big games when they have a great coach.

I'm not asking Michigan to win every rivalry game while the team is young...

But 0-6 against OSU and MSU is unacceptable.  End of story.  No excuses.  There's a reason why we are the leaders and best.... we've never let this kind of thing happen.

Woohoo!

Bowling Green!

To communist football...

That is one stupid arguement... lol...

Oregon's team has been sitting in a MUCH better position than Stanford's for a while... so the fact Harbough even got one from them in that four year stretch... is a great coaching feat...

Harbough actually occasionally won a game he wasn't supposed to win at Stanford... actually he did it quite frequently... with a lot less talent... something that Rich Rod has done... what?  Once against Wisconson in 07'?

And Harbough was the beginning of USC's decline... kicking them in the arse when they were #1... that was such a huge victory... it showed that USC was vulnerable for the first time in a while.  Harbough wins big games.  He did it at Michigan once, and he can do it again...

About a decade ago OSU hired an Ohio guy that promised big things because he understood OSU football... maybe it's time Michigan did the same...

3rd String

Our 3rd string quarterback is Devin Gardner... That's how kick ass our qb position is right now.

Kentucky vs. Louisville

That would be an awesome under-the-radar matchup during bowl season.

Imagine playing Notre Dame during a bowl game?  That's pretty much what that will be like in the state of Kentucky.  That would be pretty awesome.

BooBoo

Boo Boo Gates is the man!

Colorado?

Would a cash strapped, average institution like Colorado really be an upgrade over a place like State?

I dislike State as much as the next person on here, but Dantonio seems to have a pretty good track record around these parts and I don't see him leaving until Mr. Tressel leaves osu... I think he's going to hold out for that job.  Unless a Tennessee does come along.

But not Colorado. lol.

We could do that too...

"Does...

4 conference championships in 7 years, 3 Top 10 finishes, and 2 BCS bowl appearances (both wins, however he left before the second bid) hold any water with you then?"

It doesn't hold any water with me because he was in the BIG LEAST.  Does anyone remember when the conference had to play all their games on Wednesday and Thursdays to get any national attention?  And Louisville and Rutgers actually somehow bloated to the #1 and #2 spots?  That conference is nothing but 7 completely mediocre football programs with no football tradition and 1 school that had Pat White and Steve Slaton for a few years.

Michigan could win 4 conference championships in 7 years if we got to play UConn-esque teams over and over every year... and the Voters always will put the Big East conference champion in the top 10 just to get a tv rating for the bowl games... Give me a break.  The Big East is the worst AQ conference in the nation.  The MWC is a better conference... albeit the best teams are all leaving for greener pastures... and by greener I mean more money.

Upset or two?

By saying they still have an upset or two left in the tank... that would imply that they actually have given us an upset win in recent history... I mean unless 08 Wisconson or 08 Minnesota count still....

Great Post

I find posts like these to be really interesting... if only we could make the pictures a little smaller.

Thanks for the information!  And I lol'd at the girls dress code because it's such a northeast thing with girls right now.  Every girl dresses like that.

I for One

As someone still forced to play Ps2 football from time to time.

I appreciate this post.
