Countdown to Kickoff - Day 9: Wednesday Scrimmage
August 26th, 2010 at 8:55 AM ^
I am assuming that because they were interviewing Gibson and Dews that, that's the reason the clips made us look all pass happy and what not.
But, who cares about speculation single digit days until game day!
GO BLUE!

Grady had some nice plays. All three QBs had some nice throws. Did anybody else see Death Roh run over the Tackle at about 2:10? Getting pumped, only 9 days until UConn!
August 26th, 2010 at 9:56 AM ^
... didn't move to CB? I saw a thread a few days ago that he "was asked to move." I guess not (or he said "no").
August 26th, 2010 at 10:01 AM ^
Yeah I remember that too. It was all speculation. But then again who really knows? I kind of hope he stays at slot because he appears to be tearing it up.
August 26th, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
he is getting reps at both slot and cb.
August 26th, 2010 at 10:36 AM ^
Hell yeah! Death Roh blew him up at the line! Boom Boom Brow.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:05 AM ^
Would love to see our defense score against UCONN.

The term "pick 6" was formally discarded last year to make it more embarassing for the QB that threw it. The new term used is T.A.I.N.T. or tounchdown after INT. We were hoping that the quarterbacks on Michigan would be discouraged from throwing them due to the graphic nature of the new term. Here it is used in a sentence:
"The QB threw a T.A.I.N.T. on that last drive."
Thank you for revising your vocabulary for the sake of the team.
August 26th, 2010 at 10:59 AM ^
Bill Simmons coined the term a couple of years ago.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bill%20simmons. See #4. Great term and I have now incorporated it into my vocabulary. The term "Pick Six" was retired immediately. Stanzi is known for his TAINT...and for America. Love it or leave it!
August 26th, 2010 at 10:46 AM ^
for a second I thought you were talking about anatomy....
August 26th, 2010 at 10:51 AM ^
I remember Peyton Manning having a T.A.I.N.T. issue his rookie year in the NFL.
...But by year two he had the problem licked.

Until the superbowl
August 26th, 2010 at 9:05 AM ^
For a moment before getting up it looked like Christian Cullen grabbed his knee. I nearly died.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:09 AM ^
I am going to go on a limb and assume you meant Cullen Christian?
Not to be a dick of course
August 26th, 2010 at 9:12 AM ^
Although I agree, "Christian, Cullen" may be a little formal for this setting.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:16 AM ^
Yes. My apologies. I actually have a coworker named Christian, so that jumped to my mind. Sorry.
Either way, I would still be very upset.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:10 AM ^
Lots of crisp passes. Decent looking long ball in the air, not sure if the fact that it hit the ground was the fault of the QB or the receiver, or a good play by the DB, but you can't really tell who the QB is even if you freeze the video. (I think it's Gardner, but there's no way to know for sure.)
EDIT: Also, great quote regarding ball security: "As Coach Rod spoke about it the other day, that ball is the program."
August 26th, 2010 at 9:55 AM ^
I loved that quote. Maybe a slight hint into what kind of pressure everybody is under, or maybe just a great way to emphasize how badly turnovers kicked our ass last season.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:07 AM ^
Practicing. With Wings. Without a no-contact jersey.
Telling?
August 26th, 2010 at 9:09 AM ^
Tells me he is ready to Fuck.Shit.Up.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:10 AM ^
Your avatar is incredible
August 26th, 2010 at 9:13 AM ^
The same to you, good sir/lady. Cheers.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:09 AM ^
There was another play where the QB (Gardner this time) throws it right to the DB with no one else around. I'm really hoping this is a drill and that's what he was supposed to do...
Please?
August 26th, 2010 at 9:11 AM ^
If I had to guess, I would say that they are trying to teach the DBs to react to the quarterback's eyes and make a play on the ball as he is throwing it.
The coaches probably noticed that we were a little less than stellar on forcing turnovers last season.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:12 AM ^
It looked like he overthrew his receiver on that one.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:11 AM ^
A lot of DG in this video. He threw one pick, and one almost pick. I have to say he looks like a real deal QB though. he's going to be awesome post "freshman mistakes".
I wonder if they're limiting video of Denard and Tate for competitive reasons ... (Tate threw to Ricardo in the one clip.)
August 26th, 2010 at 9:23 AM ^
if I would call the deep ball a "should've been" interception. CC and the WR were running neck and neck, but CC wasn't in a good place to make the interception. More to break up the pass, which is what it looked like happened. Sometimes, you gotta throw the deep ball up to a one on one matchup.
Everything looks so fast and so clean. Everyone looks great! Good to see Bills out of his halo, though that harness thing he's got on now is... interesting looking.
August 26th, 2010 at 10:05 AM ^
because, to me, he most certainly was in position to pick it off and you could see his frustration in not picking it off
August 26th, 2010 at 10:30 AM ^
Three thoughts on that:
1) He was in a position to make a play, which is a welcome sign in the land of DOOM.
2) I thought there was some offensive pass interference from JeRon on the play (which I wouldn't mind in that situation; a penalty is better than a pick).
3) There is a reason some guys play defense...
August 26th, 2010 at 9:19 AM ^
Are DBs look like there in the right place everytime, and they are going up against alot of speed everyday in practice so i think they will be able to keep up with anyone we play its just a matter of how well they tackle and finish plays!
August 26th, 2010 at 1:54 PM ^
I have some required reading for you:

Please feel free to pass it along to any of your friends when you're finished. GO BLUE!

We are finally down to single digits. We are going to have a long week next week.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:29 AM ^
Only one field goal and punt highlight?? They tease us so much!
August 26th, 2010 at 9:42 AM ^
Kicking field goals and punting are for the weak. Touchdown or bust.
August 26th, 2010 at 10:11 AM ^
For the weak, unless you're playing NCAA 11 and losing 50 Sportsmanship points every time go for it on 4th down! Why can't I throw the ball when I'm up 21 points without getting penalized?! SORRY, I'm back... The battle for Kicker is an interesting one to me, if there's one position that shows recruiting stars don't calculate mental toughness, it's got to be Kicker.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:32 AM ^
Love to see the coaches emphasizing ball control. If we can turn around our TO differential this year, we should be able to turn a few of last year's close loses into W's.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:33 AM ^
I've been wondering when we'd get some Hagerup highlights
August 26th, 2010 at 9:42 AM ^
about the defense are tackling and covering the play action bomb. This young secondary has to get the guy down however possible, and they can't bite on the fakes at the back end. UConn will test both of these areas early and often, and I feel like their offense will give us a good idea of how this defense will react to a run-heavy offense that is much like teams we will face in the B10.
August 26th, 2010 at 10:15 AM ^
Did anyone else notice Isaiah Bell miss two tackles in the same play at the beginning?
August 26th, 2010 at 10:20 AM ^
There is nothing more terrifying, especially when watching on TV when you can't see the DB's and WR's, than an opposing QB making a play fake and having plenty of time to step up in the pocket and make a perfect deep throw. The last two years, this has pretty much resulted in an automatic TD or at least a big gain every time.
August 26th, 2010 at 10:31 AM ^
It's difficultt to evaluate tackling here as the guys clearly aren't supposed to actually tackle the ball carriers. I'd imagine a defensive player's approach is much different and a lot more passive.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:57 AM ^
Kelvin Grady to defense rumor is a whole lot of not true.
August 26th, 2010 at 9:59 AM ^
Other than that horrible int, everything look so crisp. DG is gonna be something special, he looks the part already and with another year of barwis-sizing look out.
August 26th, 2010 at 10:25 AM ^
At the 2:11 mark watch Roh truck the tackle. I cant tell who the tackle is, but he gets destroyed!
August 26th, 2010 at 10:33 AM ^
Technique and fundamentals will never fail you. This will get said at my practices at least once a day this year.
August 26th, 2010 at 10:49 AM ^
My fav was, "We have guys running around and catching the ball."
August 26th, 2010 at 10:39 AM ^
It seems like Tate is passing to freshmen and Denard to first team. Is it possible that Tate being more accurate helps freshmen come upto speed with offense while Denard provides more challenge to first team and better chance for improvement. But at game time the roles might switch.
August 26th, 2010 at 10:45 AM ^
I mean look:
