Wolverine247 and TheMichiganInsider (Sam Webb) merging
For those who don't know, Wolverine247 and TheMichiganInsider are two big Michigan paysites for recruiting, analysis, etc.
The merger comes as no surprise after the acquisition of Scout (which owned or had a licensing deal with TMI) by 247, and Sam Webb made it official today. So, there will now be a really big team at 247 with Sam Webb, Steve Lorenz, Isaiah Hole, Zach Shaw, Josh Henschke, Josh Newkirk, and DOTMAN.
One would assume there was a fair bit of dual membership between the sites, and that will now disappear. I'm curious what the financial deal looked like here.

I have been reading The Wolverine less and less. Brandon Brown is a decent guy but doesn't offer a whole lot, and the other mods there are...questionable and have been for a while.

a couple of years ago. To say the mods there are questionable is being nice Magnus, and I'll just leave it at that.

the hyjinks on the free board. But they ruined that when they changed the format so you could only do topic view.
Thread view for life bitches. Also yes to cheese on my McGriddles, r.i.p. Ironmike.

I used to feel a twinge of loyalty to the Wolverine as they kind of started it all (I remember getting that newspaper in the mail - a whole newspaper about Michigan sports!), but yeah, they're not what they used to be.

247 can suck it.

Not really. Rivals is still boss. I'm been a member of all of them. Content, user experience, community -- rivals has 'em beat. IMHO.
Also, DOTMAN... LOL. (cough)

Is it just me, or is that an overload at one particular site? If Lorenz and Webb are both posting "inside info," then maybe some of those other guys become expendable. I don't wish for anyone to lose his or her job, but I kind of doubt whether one paysite can pay all those salaries.
November 2nd, 2017 at 9:57 AM ^
This is only true if their "inside information" is redundant and the same between the two. But since "inside information" seems to be more of the "Brandon Peters was a huge recruiting miss" variety, they can have two guys throwing random shit out there!
(Kidding, sort of...)

but I would think they will be able to increase revenue with this model, I just subscribed after reading this post. Still every business will cut costs when it can, so there probably will be some who get displaced which sucks.

P.S. If either Lorenz or Webb wants to get out of that deal, I can make a place for you at TTB.

Does UMBig11 still post on TTB? I haven't seen him since the offseason. I assume he has an exclusivity deal with Rivals during the season.

He still posts on TTB occasionally. He does have a deal with Rivals, but it's not totally exclusive.

I have done the free trial with 247 before so I have an idea what steves inside info is like. I have never used TMI. Do they provide the same info but present it in a different way? Or is this going to make 247 something I should actually pay for?

If you have subscriptions on both sites with months remaining then they are combining them to give you the total months due. (ex: If you have 2 months left on one and 5 months left on the other you will get 7 months.)

This is the reason for the deal (and tech costs).
Funny thing is that the guys fired will take their package and start up a new site, so...
November 2nd, 2017 at 12:17 PM ^
Good luck with that if they do. Webb and Lorenz are the top two recruiting scoop guys around the Michigan program. Their staffs are there to generate mostly filler content to keep the people who are checking back for fresh material at any given moment placated. Newkirk is good, but it's a side gig for him. The rest of the guys are all just guys, IMO. I don't see any of them developing a credible rival to the 247/scout crew.

None of us are being fired. Our entire staffs are combining and most of our roles aren't changing. We'll just be able to provide more comprehensive, quality material than we were even before.
