wonder what the underlying reasons are. maybe one of our many recruiting wizards can fill in the blanks.

Any solid evidence to back that up?
My guess - We were in on higher rated CBs and just wanted them more.

It's mighty dangerous to shoot from the hip like that.

Maybe since he is from Maryland and was recruited by DJ, he'd like to go to Maryland?

Going to Maryland, I heard they have a pretty good coach, that use to be a DC for an up and comming football team? Just a rumor.

Bummer man, but not unexpected I guess.
January 13th, 2016 at 5:19 PM ^
Not sure what happened behind the scenes to prompt this decision, but this seems like a very classy post.
Good luck to you, Sir.

We'll never, ever know exactly what happened or what the staff said or didn't say to SPS. But I bet we're about to read some massive assumptions and wild speculation starting........ NOW!

I was going to ask - does this solidify that we'd take both Hill and Long if we have the opportunity?

Haven't been this sad about not getting a guy since we missed on Leviticus Payne.

no animosity. this decommittment is what the staff wanted.. no contact with the kid for weeks. writing was on the wall.
January 13th, 2016 at 5:53 PM ^
No, after such a classy letter of resignation you should not be THAT GUY by being totally classless about it.
January 13th, 2016 at 5:22 PM ^
Terrible attitude to have, shoo fly.

i didnt realize my comment would make so many people butthurt.. cry about it
January 13th, 2016 at 5:46 PM ^
There is a difference between being butthurt and being classy. I think most people like to be dealt with respectfully and graciously. "Good riddance" is a pretty harsh, uncalled for, snotty way of putting things. The reality is that it would be great if Scott was a bit better, and there was a bit more room in the class. The reality is that there are what is regarded as better DB's available, and not enough room. This is better for him, and better for Michigan. But it is not a "good riddance" kind of situation.
The other thing is that I think most of us really want the Michigan staff to be classy and to honor offers made. I will say, I don't want the coaching staff to make commitable offers, and then pull them away from kids. Harbaugh sounds like he is a man who keeps his word. So for Sir Patrick Scott to decommit seems to be a win - win. Michigan doesn't pull the offer, rather, Scott decommits. This allows him to look elsewhere in the next four weeks, and opens up one more scholarship for Michigan.

lower rated players took the place of higher rated recruits in the early signing derby. Where we lost good recruits who wanted to sign early but could not because there was no room for more early commits.

It was an impressive string of downvotes. I was concerned at first. But it kept going. Speaking from experience, you've gotta back away after taking a couple headshots.

Back in the old days, there were some epic flame wars. Emo was a guy. There were several others that just were really sarcastic and had a ton of negs. I vaguely recall some of that with Wolverine Liberation Army. Stuff like this happened more regularly.
You basically have a choice when you post something unpopular: go down in flames, and torch everything with you by giving a snarky response to everything, or shut up, go lick your wounds, and come back another day.
A year or two ago, in a State of the Blog address, Brian mentioned one or two that had gotten under his skin so much he was permanently banning them / caving them / removing them / sending them to Bolivia (oblivian). In general, with the ability for users to neg others, there is much more board self-regulation. A good thing.
