Brady Hoke interviews for East Carolina job
Per 247, Hoke has interviewed for the East Carolina job. This could be a good thing both because Brady is a good human being and because it would help ease the athletic department's bottom line

Didn't the ECU fans just petition to have the AD fired because they were upset about the firing of Ruffin McNeill?
That would be a tough situation to go into as a new coach, but best of luck to Brady.

I don't think hiring Brady Hoke would make the AD's seat any cooler

Because Ruffin seemed to be doing quite well at ECU while Brady's most recent stop featured him running Michigan into the ground. I'd be pissed if I was an ECU fan

Pirates...mutiny...
Nevermind. I'll see myself out.

He got us into deeper waters for a year, then we got stuck on a sand bar. Now we're enjoying Mojitos on the S.S. Harbaugh.
December 11th, 2015 at 8:52 AM ^
back McNeil? I don't see Hoke being a less popular hire than the other coaches they are interviewing.
December 11th, 2015 at 7:46 AM ^
Good for Brady. If Will Muschamp can get another P5 HC job with his less than stellar record, why not Brady and he is a good man and recruiter.
December 11th, 2015 at 10:29 AM ^
ECU isn't a P5. It's a Group of Five school.

Good for Hoke! I don't think he's a legit, top notch Power 5 coach, but I believe that he is a capable coach for teams outside of the Power 5 or the smaller/weaker Power 5 teams. Best of luck to him, but it all doesn't matter cause we still have Harbaugh!
December 11th, 2015 at 8:12 AM ^
Yes, let's not forget he was tearing it up at SD State and Ball State before that. Both programs were sad to see him leave. It's not like he has no prior record other than what happened at Michigan.
December 11th, 2015 at 9:00 AM ^
While he was finding success at that level, he did have a sub-500 record before he came to Michigan. Not saying SDSU and Ball State don't miss him and that he won't find success again, but "tearing it up" is a bit a generous of a term to use for his pre-U of M days.
December 11th, 2015 at 9:14 AM ^
His BSU record is a mixed bag, but he did quite well at SDSU. He inherited a 2-10 team, which hadn't gone to a bowl in about a decade, and then went 4-8 and 9-4.

I have family in Muncie Indiana. Rabid Ball State and Butler fans. I asked them if Hoke would come back to Ball State and they said good ridance. He burned his bridges when he left the team for SDSU before the season was over. They know Ball State is a stepping stone. But they felt that Hoke was deceptive. He may be a good man but that circle of folks disagrees.
December 11th, 2015 at 11:06 AM ^
"That circle of folks" being the liquor store owners? I mean, did anyone else step in to drink all the beer?
December 11th, 2015 at 11:15 AM ^
Hoke has a circle of folks who all attended the same tavern and drank at the same time. So maybe they were pissed off they lost their drinking buddy.

Tearing it up at Ball St. is..........a questionable assertion at best, he had one good year where the team flamed out with two straight losses at the end. I think the only person who was sad he left there realistically was Jason Whitlock whose judgment isn't exactly great.
SDSU was going well, but given Borges' meh at best QB recruiting I wonder what would have happened there once Lindley left.,
If another school wants to give him a shot, great! He's a good man with a lot of great qualities that I probably don't acknowledge as much as I should. But his self-advertisement of, "I'm just an old D-line coach." should probably be his mission statement.
Also I think he now lives in North Carolina and this may be more of a, "kick the tires of a locally available guy" move.

I hope he learned from his experiences at UM and goes on to future success!

Here is the one lesson I think it's safe to say Hoke "learned" at Michigan: don't let the AD coach the team.

This is a mean comment and I'll probably regret making it-but I visualize Brady hunched over the map he didn't need to find Ann Arbor, sweat rolling down his face as he grinds away searching for the state of East Carolina.
"OK, found South. There's North. So East should be to the right...is East under the Atlantic Ocean?! How do they breathe? Is the football stadium a dome? Going to hurt our team speed playing underwater-makes pad level even more important. Execute...have to execute."

to hire competent assistants. He did great hiring Mattison, but that was a hire in his own personal area of strength. He needed particularly good coaches in his personal areas of weakness and instead got, for example, Borges, Funk and Jackson.

Two reasons-I still like the guy and wish him well. Also, he wouldn't be on the radio anymore. Not only would that mean I wouldn't have to hear his voice, but he could stop offering opinions on Harbaugh's decisions-which I think is inappropriate as well as laughable.

I hope he gets it. RR got a job after almost burning Michigan to the ground, so I think Brady deserves another shot too.
