Only down 4 at half...outgaining, more first downs, 8/11 on 3rd down. Then the second half happened. 28-3, utter domination in all phases. If we came out flat, it would've happened from the opening bell.
Harbaugh and the offensive staff did all they could with the cards they had, but the D has an all-american corner, a fantastic DL and that Peppers guy. We are just as talented as any D the Bucks have faced, if not more so. And the D is just as talented as MSU, 1 to 11. We don't have a Calhoun, but the DE is not solely responsible for stopping the run.
Defensive scheme lost the game, plain and simple.

I'm sure Bolden is great guy and will be successful in life. He just can't tackle well

As for the high profile mistakes I think it comes down to two things. 1. The Hoke derp doesn't go away in just one year and 2. The team just started to look tired, I think having to maintain that level of intensity all year started to wear on guys who were both starting and then playing on Special teams.

If we are ever to beat OSU ever again, the players must be much, much better than the current crop. Harbaugh cannot afford to sign unknown, under the radar 3 star types. I think he's trying.

They're going after the big fish, too. But I'm more inclined to trust the coaches over pure star chasing.

Durkin was awful...I hate that he NEVER adjusted all game.
At some point you have to try something different.
Whatever happened to being "multiple" when the season started? The 3-4 and the 4-3...that's all everyone talked about.
The 3-man front got DESTROYED
At some point you have to adjust and go:
DL: Charlton-Hurst-Henry-Wormley/
LB: Ross-Morgan-Bolden
CB: Lewis-Stribling
S: Wilson-Peppers
....Durkin never adjusted and he lost control of the game.

They seemed to play in that 3-3 box until OSU was inside the 20, about to go up 28-10. Was not impressed at all.

Durkin's gameplan was pretty bad. It felt like I was watching an NCAA video game where you cannot bring the safeties into the box. We didn't get out of 6 men in the box until it was too late. Against this type of offense, going 6 in the box is a recipe for disaster. Add on top of that that our linebackers are the weakest part of the defense and were guaranteed to face releasing OL with 3 DL. Bad, bad gameplan.
Okay, maybe we wouldn't have stopped them anyway given our injuries, but at least try something different.
I am a bit nervous about Durkin's results against spread-to-run offenses. Indiana and Ohio State destroyed our defense, and Minnesota had a good day against it, too. I really hope injuries played into it. And also that our linebackers will improve. But from what I understand from some Florida fans, the LBs weren't great under Durkin at Maryland.
Obviously, this is not a FIRE DURKIN opinion. But he has to figure out a way to slow down spread to run offenses.

Yes, I absolutely do.
Our lack of D-line rotation led to our d-line being exhausted in the second half, which led to more weight being put on the line backers.Or you dumbasses can keep calling for the heads of an excellent coaching staff in their first year. Some of you guys are horrible to root for a team with,

But the days offering slow, lumbering guys like Strobel, Godin, Poggi, Braden, and especially Bolden has to end. Every guy Harbaugh offers needs to have the size, speed, and God given ability to beat State and OSU.

That play burned us all season, and has for years. It seems like we just don't have an answer for it.
Way back in the day when the wishbone was popular, Michigan was masterful at defending it - even amazing wishbone teams like Auburn and Oklahoma struggled to move against us. We always had a man dedicated to stopping the QB, and maintained the edge when he was forced to pitch.
For some reason, we can't do the same against a good read-option team. The QB always seems to gash us, eventually opening up the edge.
It's amazing to me that a team can absolutely destroy our defense with such a predictable offense. Same play, over and over.
Of course personnel has much to do with our struggles, but our players do fine against power or pro-style offense.
Seems to me we need to add a zone-read guru to the defensive staff, and practice against it every day, so by the time we face OSU it's second nature.

The only thing that fixes any of today's derp is ... recruiting and unless Durkin could spend halftime getting 5-6 players recruited, signed and suited up, there was nothing helping that shit show. I'm still happy with the season results considering most of us thought we had a 8 or 7 win ceiling at best this year. Our biggest weakness (LBs) was exposed today - kudos to the other team. They played their strength against our weakness. I mean what adjustment was Durkin going to make - play goalline every down? I'm not saying he gets a pass, but damn the talent gap was painfully obvious. I'm still proud of this team, and I'm looking forward to the bowl game and next year.

We got thoroughly outclassed today, but some of these comments are utterly ridiculous. I'm not saying the coaches aren't without blame but even Belichick, Carroll, and yes Harbaugh can make calls that don't work out every time. Harbaugh is one of the finest football coaches at any level in the country.
Calling for Durkin or Baxter's heads after our team played above our heads for most of the year is shortsighted and foolish. Once we get more talent and our players into years 2 and 3 or the system we'll be fine.
November 28th, 2015 at 8:11 PM ^
not find a better head coach. They just have to kill it in recruiting there the next couple years and coach them up. Then you can annalyze them and decide if you want them or not. I'm pretty sure you guys don't want a schmuck like Urban or Saban. So sit tight and shutup.

Lastly, honoring Bump Elliot for this game, the guy who was owned by osu as a coach, would be like osu honoring john cooper next year when we play them in cbus. Maybe they shldve picked a diff game for that. Rooting for Iowa next week! Go Blue!

Block punt penalty was a huge momentum swing & we never recovered. ST looked better for sure this year. But huge bad calls by Baxter in msu... & today. Why is chesson not returning kicks either? He ran one back earlier in year.
Peppers was on offense a little too much today imo. Would have liked to seem him shadowing Barrett all day.
Punt from their 35 was lame as it gets...as was red zone O play calling.
Get a cool M jacket JH ...& lose the puffy nerd jacket.
If Durkin was interviewing during game week - boot his ass out of here & bring Woodson in. Mattison can groom him in.
After seeing Bolden scared to tackle Elliot - put anybody else in & sit him.
Not one creative offensive play to get momentum early. Drake throwback to Ruddock or something maybe. Peppers wildcat & option play with drake or Smith...with option to throw.
Would like to see JH chew more ass on the sideline - also to inspire. Maybe he does tho & don't see it on tv.
Didn't like seeing JH talking all friendly with urbz before game. Sets a tone for our team. Urbz showed his true colors trying to run up score.
